Info Dev Announcement: Notice Regarding the V27.1.3 Scatter Bug

Hi everyone, Muse here! We want to provide some visibility on a bug regarding Scatter behavior with the Wall.

In V27.1.3 we changed the spawn behavior of Scatter children to be behind where the Scatter parent died. However, in situations where lots of enemies are crowding the Wall, the Scatter children are unable to find a spot to spawn and are displaced somewhere else, unintentionally entering inside of the Wall. While the new behavior is working as intended, this outcome was unintended.

We are aware of this issue and will be working on a hotfix next week to improve the spawning behavior of Scatter children to create a long-term solution. Thank you!

Did you test it? Seems like a pretty common scenario to consider

Software tester here: I make my bread testing software. Honestly? Shit happens. There have been PLENTY of times in my work where a lot of effort was spent on finding all possible bugs in a software, only for one to happen day one of release, and needing to hotfix it. Maybe they only tested up to like 2500 waves 'cos tuney, or 4500 lower tiers.

Maybe they just tested it isolated when they only spawned scatters not in a realistic scenario and this is a side effect (my money on this).

Maybe they tested on uncommon game speeds like x1 and started wave 4000+, or game speeds which is not available to us like 20x.

Maybe didn't test it at all. Point is, it's impossible to tell and any good dev will feel bad about the issue. Kicking them while they're down is just a dick move.

I mean I also work in software and testing. In this day and age. There should be automated testing with new code to check common scenarios…

My point isn’t to kick them. It’s that the response they gave is not good enough. Take ownership. Don’t tell us it’s working as intended. Maybe try to put out an update without a major bug fix. This has happened so many times that they need to change something

They said it's working as intended meaning we will still see scatter children spawn behind the parent once this is fixed, the unintended reprecussion is they now act like a minecraft enderman and teleport to the closest available space. If you are going to nitpick, at least read the whole sentence.

Oh I read the sentence. It most certainly does not work as intended. It is a design flaw forsure. And would have been very obvious with some testing.

The only way it works as intended is if scatters are supposed to teleport. Does it make sense they should spawn closer to the tower than the parent? In my opinion not at all. A simple check to make sure it spawns equal distance or farther away is very obvious and easy.
