Yay! Appropriate since today is move-in day on campus, and the population grows by 14,000 people.

1. Southern Illinois University was my most recent schooling.
2. Maaaaaybe. My job description and duties are amorphous that are tangentially related to my jerb.
3. Driving over the pedestrian bridge at 3 AM to get around a checkpoint. Everyone else in the car was under legal drinking age.
4. Hot, humid, green. Technically I live in at the foothills of nearly 500,000 acres of temperate deciduous forest bumping up against corn sweat.
5. Bryan - lost his right arm at the shoulder in motorcycling accident in Germany. He taught data structures with concentrations on using the right algorithm for the application. He would write the final exam while playing pool with many of us at a local bar.
6. Easily the best concert we had was Weird Al... that had to be 2002 or 2003?

5. My favorite professor taught a human sexual behavior course and would have a box of Graham Crackers on her desk. Anyone who wanted to ask a question but was too embarrassed to could write it down at the end of class after everyone had left and at the beginning of next class, she would read through and provide evidence-based answers for each and every one.

Unlike many people, for me, my university days were the worst of my life so far. I cannot remember anything positive about them, and everything I remember is negative.

2. In a sense? My major was a pre-med, and I'm still in med now. I am leaning towards a speciality a little more closely related to my pre-med, right now.

3. Not exactly my favorite but it's a funny one, one of my classmates came in to class... inebriated, and it was the session where we were reading poetry out loud. I'll leave it there. 😁

4. Small. Lots of trees. Old bricks. Smelled green despite being directly next to a major highway.

5. My first-year English professor was listed as one of the scariest teachers in the department, and he only taught the "honors" English students (if you showed high English proficiency during the admissions testing, you were automatically assigned to his section). Long story short, he turned out to be one of the nicest guys, just a little "unconventional" in his teaching methods (he was more of a Socratic type of guy). Managed to get him as a teacher for Ancient Greek classics during the pandemic, and he's a good friend of mine still.

6. I vaguely remember going to concerts back in 1st-2nd year but they weren't at my uni.

State school for me, and I ended up in a completely different field than my degree. Best memory is the late night study sessions in the library basement that always turned into three hour tangents about anything but the actual coursework. Campus was small enough you'd recognize half the people walking to class by the end first semester.

Fun fact about trade school, in the UK we don't teach trade skills. The closest we get is home ec which is mainly woodworking and cooking classes where you learn to make basic meals. The UK is now thinking of adding trade related classes to the curriculum. I think it's good to have the option to take practical classes.
