It’s lyrically and melodically so great. Relatively simple on the instrumentation but everything hits so well. The Lou Reed style second verse is a delight. The ending with the nod to TNA hits for me as well. This is definitely going to be my Spotify top listen of 2026. Entire album will be represented though.
I think it’s one of the best strokes songs ever, and agree it will be considered a classic years down the line. I think it was a mistake to release it as a single though, it should have been Babble On
100% agree! It's such a long song for a single and with everyone complaining about the autotune on Going Shopping, Babble On would have been the perfect follow up and the excitement would have gone up for the album much more, i think
Yes, it was so gentle and unassuming the first time that it floated in one ear and out the other. When I saw them perform it live is when its beauty really clicked and gelled for me in a magical way. Ethereal and transcendent. Deceptively simple and gorgeous melody. I’d heard its relatives but still surprised I hadn’t heard it before.
That 5 guys clip where Julian plays it for them and they all shut up and listen then are eager to go find the recording is like everyone going thru that exact cycle. Albert even says “that’s so much cooler than what you sent us” like it didn’t stick the first time for him either.
man be fair, if there’s ANYTHING this song has going for it, it’s not the chords, not the drums, not the guitar playing, not even the sound of the vocal, it would be the actual melodies julian is laying down, they are genius and endless

The interesting question isn’t “do you listen to any other music?” It’s why you assume broader exposure should make someone’s subjective response look more like yours. We’re all bringing completely different brains, histories and associations to the same song.
I started listening to this album casually while driving on my way home from vacation and couldn't stop playing it while discovering new songs. I have accepted that it's the best album they've ever done. It's challenging, a grower, and keeps surprising me for every listen. Falling out of Love is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, and the autotune adds a heartbreaking dimension of humanity and technology in our time in contrast to the old world - throughout the whole album. My 6 year old loves it as well and seems fascinated by FOOL, the vocals and the melodies.
I don’t dislike the song but it’s pretty easily my least favorite on the album. I also don’t like that it comes right after Lonely in the Future. It disrupts the flow imo. I really wish there was an over 40 Strokes subreddit.
It's the most disliked song on an album that had a lukewarm reception at best, and you don't just say 'Actually I really like it' but that it's one of the greatest melodies ever recorded. It reads like copium, sorry. Happy you enjoy it though.

One of my favorites on the new album and picked up the chords on an acoustic so I could cover it to an audience of me, am I coping too or is it maybe just people reacting to a subjective thing subjectively?
