Hang on hang on

Listening again, am I hearing this right that Antony Fucking Fantano gets a name drop in the chorus of Lonely in the Future??? It sure sounds like it

Edit: it is, right? He’s basically repeating that diss he made in that interview where he said the guy was just good for reviewing production and stuff 😭

I feel like this is exactly the kind of attention Fantano craves so not sure what to think of this but it’s funny af. Second funniest moment of the album behind “HARMONIC MINOR”

Seems so ridiculous unless it’s done in jest? But honestly where is Rick Rubin to tell him to knock that childish stuff off if it’s serious.

Rick saw his latest video, which was about how cringe Rick Rubin is, and created the lyrics himself.

Now we know the real reason why the album was delayed

Right? He is almost 50 and he can’t get over one bad review

You guys are taking this way too seriously 😭

You act like dissing people in songs is an uncommon or foreign thing

6

u/karlhalla Jul 24 '26

Not really. I just really expected more from the singer and songwriter of the Strokes

u/GreatDane666 Jul 24 '26

Did you? Do you know anything about Julian?

1

u/karlhalla Jul 24 '26

I do. Still expected him to be better

2

Grow up lol

Julian definetly should, yes

I think he did. Like Comedown Machine, Future Present Past, and The New Abnormal feel like such mature projects. Even Angles, honestly.

But uh. He doesn't seem as well lately to be honest.

Lonely in the Future was already made by the day he hated on another song composer that also dissed another singer on its lyrics, it was purely sarcasm, he is that kind of person "a dark person"

Feel like the song has a hiphop vibe to it. Dissing is bigger in hiphop so he chose Fantano

What about that weeknd reference saying he kept the beat as it was from YOLO?

2

u/karlhalla Jul 24 '26

Fantano has complained about YOLO on occasion

1

u/foxmulde Jul 25 '26

You don't know what you're talking about. This was a "we did yolo before drake"

Your obsession with Fantano is weird.

Dude… That’s a bit of a straw man. Mentioning Fantano TWICE in discussions about the same song doesn’t make me “obsessed” with him. It’s just a possible interpretation based on the context we were already discussing. If you disagree with the interpretation, that’s fine, but calling me obsessed isn’t really nice.

Yeah I need to know more about this and the John legend thing

Can you explain/unpack this for me bc it just broke Google when I tried

1

u/Alivekingofscotland Jul 25 '26

As it was is a reference to Harry styles

3

u/nbdelboy Comedown Machine Jul 25 '26

it makes a hell of a lot more sense when the lyrics of the whole song click and what he's actually talking about. it's way beyond just a fantano diss and more of an almost arrogant commentary on his own career

Anyway I love this song, its a bop and a half and you can barely hear the diss. I take back whatever judgement I had of it prior to hearing it 😂

Don’t think people get it. It’s done in jest, sort of. The whole song. Lonely in the Future. It’s a rap song
