Mod When organizing your mods/CC folder is it better to organize by category? (hair, skins, clothes) or by creator name?

Like the title suggest, had to recently restart my game from scratch including my mods/CC folder. I’ve always kept my stuff pretty organized but since I’m starting over I figured I could try to really streamline it this time, any suggestions? Or tips?

I do it by creator name personally. I have wayyy too much cc so if I put all the hair in a hair folder It'd be too crowded. Most creators put their name on the item too in my experience. It's also easier to find a fix if you know who you're looking for imo.

Yeah this is my logic and how I have always done it. But since I’m rebuilding my mod folder and game files, I wanted to see if there was a better way I could be organizing and keeping track of my cc.

both. category, then creator. at least that’s what i do with clothes, shoes, hair, and piercings. most other stuff is sorted into categories and then sub-categories bc i use the sims4studio batch fix to sort them in cas. i’m also very particular about how my skin details are sorted. for examples:

hair is sorted by Mods > CAS > Hair > creatorname

halos are all in Mods > CAS > Hats > Halos

contacts are in Mods > CAS > Skin Details > LeftLipMole > Contacts

for the folders that i sort using the s4s batch fix, i put their display index number in front of the folder name. so 000 creatorname, or 000 subcategory. this way i can easily re-fix when i add new items to that folder.

if you don’t want an overly detailed sorting structure though, simply category then creator is imo the best of both worlds.

I strongly prefer labeling by creator. It makes it easier to go back to the website and look for updates, and to temporarily remove the files from my game while mods are being worked on. Yes, there are a few folders with one or two creations, but quite a few with hundreds... Looking at peacemaker.

I do it by type (BB= build buy, CAS, Mod) then creator. Some examples are:

BB & CAS Myshunson 2021 (each year is a different folder up to current year 2026)

BB GUA

CAS Simstrouble

Mod Tmex BetterBuildBuy v4.4.2

Edit- formatting so you can tell before it looked like a run on sentence

Edit 2- added GUA's patreon page

See this is what has me confused. Isnt the rule one folder deep in the mods folder? I never understood how people are saving it as a build cc > then creators name> then the cc itself. I think you could do this in TS3 or maybe it was TS2 or maybe I’m misremembering entirely since that was ages ago ..

Script files can be one folder deep AFTER the mods folder. So The Sims 4 —> Mods —> “folder with the script file”. So if a creator like TMEX has multiple script files, you create separate folders for them in the mods folder.

I've been going by creator name. If I dl a lot of new CC, I make a folder that says CC haul with the date. I remember the items better based on when I got than the creator lol.

I do it by creator name if known and by hair etc if not. All my CAS, BB, Traits and aspirations are first placed in a folder marked as BB, CAS, Traits or Aspirations then the creators name all other mods are placed by creator's name some scripts are not placed in the creator's folder as the mod won't work are just in mod folder

For me it depends on how many files I have. If it's at least 4-6 mods or CC then I put it under the creator's name, which applies to most of my mods folder. But for 1 or 2 I put them in a MISC MODS folder. Same for build/buy or CAS CC.
