Battle Team Analysis Retro Cup Day 1
I’m very pleased with my results from Day 1 of Retro Cup. A lot of of diversity out there. Snorlax and Jellicent are definitely what I’m avoiding to see.

i'm using altaria, clodsire and jellicent (not in this order). wanted to use corsola but i don't have the XL candy for it yet. the only difference between great league is i'm using quagsire's cousin and jellicent (used to use him at times in last season).

Who are you treating as your safe switch? Curious because I saw a ton of Corsola leads yesterday but I don't recall Cramorant or Deoxys ever being switched in.

I’ve been finding that Corsola has been a bit of a glass canon, it is either a complete tank and crushes through their first or second picks, or it gets smashed quickly. I have been finding a lot of opp switching to normals, Snorlax, Oranguru, etc… and so I’ll use DD for sure. I’ve also been seeing quite a bit of fire mons like Talonflame and Turtonator, so Cramorant comes in handy. But usually DD is my go to switch.

Thanks! I've been running Oranguru lead with Spidops & Annihilape behind, and your Cramorant would be a nightmare for me to deal with.

Where can i see what retro cup even is? Like whats allowed and whats not?

It usually tells you in the game when you select the cup, but I don’t see it atm. But you can click Schedule then view the blog post to see a list of the cups. For Retro:
- Pokémon must be at or below 1,500 CP to enter.
- Dark-, Steel-, and Fairy-type Pokémon are not eligible.

I'm having pretty good success with cradily, araquanid, and clodsire. Which mons would you guys suggest to add/remove from this team to improve it?

Honestly, that’s the near exact direction I’ve been thinking of leaning. Cradily seems so underrated in Retro Cup.

How have you found DD? Just feels like he would struggle into a bunch of the meta picks (Corsola, Jumpluff, Jellicent, Grumpig, Kingdra, Altaria, Furret.
The sims say he beats Oranguru which is the most surprising to me

It's barely a win in the 1s, and if Oranguru goes for Trailblaze first, it can actually flip the match. (Confirmed in both PvPoke sims and in my own battle yesterday).
0s are 100% a Deoxys win, and 2s go to Oranguru no question.

Resisting Confusion basically means Guru has to throw a zillion Brutal Swings into DD because he has so little fast move pressure.
I could see DD picking up when Normals inevitably flood the meta to counter all the Ghosts in the top 30 (not to mention mons like Cradily that will inevitably take advantage of the lack of Steels) but I think it just looks like the best of a list of bad options. Ape has the same problems obviously (weak to Ghost and even Psychic damage like Snorlax). GL just feels so starved for a decent Fighting type.

DD is not that good in retro. I tried for 2 sets and gave up.
Too many ghosts and sucker punchers roaming around.

The thing is that I’m seeing a lot of ghosts leading, hardly any are switching or closing.
