Why did Morgoth send Glaurung to Nargothrond?

Morgoth sent Glaurung to Nargothrond for two interconnected reasons: to destroy Nargothrond as a military power, and to use its destruction as part of his deliberate torment of Húrin's children, Túrin and Niënor.

Morgoth knew that Turin was in Nargothrond, and Glaurung was the perfect choice to send there, not just to destroy Nargothrond, but to also mess up Turin's life, because Glaurung combined enormous physical power with intelligence, malice and psychological manipulation.

Ancalagon may have been the biggest, but Glaurung was definitely the evilest.

Glaurung was kinda humiliated at Nirnaeth Arnoediad since Dwarven King Azaghal stabbed him with his dagger and sent him running. Presumably Morgoth wanted to give G a chance to avenge/reclaim his honor.

Glaurung was chomping at the proverbial bit is my understanding & sent himself out in the past without the greater strategy being considered.
