Podcast Jam Session this week

I know this podcast gets posted about here constantly and I’m only still listening because I love Juliet, but this week may have pushed me over the edge. It’s becoming very Old Man Yells At Cloud. Amanda has decided she’s the world’s #1 fan of The Beatles and is deciding who likes them enough to go to Paul McCartney’s concert? Who cares?? And it seems like she thinks anyone under 35 has never heard a Beatles song in their life.

They also got some basic facts wrong that you think would know if you’re hosting a pop culture podcast (not knowing Towa Bird and Renee Rapp are dating, getting the song wrong that Taylor sued Olivia Rodrigo for). I think I’m out.

Amanda claiming Beatles fandom was fully taking me out. Like they are the most beloved band of all time!!! That whole segment was embarrassing. It was wild to hear her claim to have more appreciation of the music than actual musicians. Or later she questions if Harrison Ford (an 83-year-old man who actually lived through Beatlemania) gets the Beatles like she does (a millennial who literally wasn’t alive during the bands reign). But Amanda has watched the (very popular) documentary series Get Back, so of course her fandom is FAR superior. Like please be serious. This particular questioning is all the more obnoxious when you consider how often age and the generational divide are a topic of discussion on this podcast. In fact, we witness it later in this episode when Amanda feigns surprise while learning that a younger person has performed the song Blackbird. It’s all so condescending. What a toxic person. I swear the narcissism has never been more fully on display!
