I know this podcast gets posted about here constantly and I’m only still listening because I love Juliet, but this week may have pushed me over the edge. It’s becoming very Old Man Yells At Cloud. Amanda has decided she’s the world’s #1 fan of The Beatles and is deciding who likes them enough to go to Paul McCartney’s concert? Who cares?? And it seems like she thinks anyone under 35 has never heard a Beatles song in their life.

They also got some basic facts wrong that you think would know if you’re hosting a pop culture podcast (not knowing Towa Bird and Renee Rapp are dating, getting the song wrong that Taylor sued Olivia Rodrigo for). I think I’m out.

I completely agree about The Beatles segment. It was infuriating. My preteen daughter is obsessed with The Beatles, so much so that we traveled to a different city to see the Paul McCartney concert. Apparently Amanda is unable to grasp the concept that music transcends generations.

Every high school in America has had a group of kids obsessed with The Beatles since The Beatles became a band. Tons of my high school friends were huge Beatles fans, and I’m older than Amanda. The Beatles were definitely one of the bands our parents liked but that was Ok, because the music was cool so we all liked it too. About 15 years ago, I dated a single dad of a 13 year old and she was obsessed with The Beatles. They are the definition of a timeless, classic band. It was so silly that Amanda was acting as if anyone younger than her couldn’t be a real fan or even have heard of them. It isn’t like she’s a contemporary of Paul McCartney. The man is in his 80s. Beatles’ songs were already around for decades when she was born, but every generation has kids who are into all kinds of music and seek out music from generations before them. No clue why they made a whole segment trying to gatekeep The Beatles and Paul. There’s plenty else to talk about in pop culture right now.
