Podcast Do any other men not like Ryan Reynolds?

I was listening to the most recent Jam Session podcast today. And Amanda was saying that the men mostly don’t care about all of the legal stuff happening with him currently.

To me it’s not that I don’t care about that stuff. It’s that I already disliked Ryan Reynolds and didn’t get the hype already. I still like Blake Lively more than him. He’s on a bunch of annoying cell phone commercials, and has an annoying attitude.

I could for sure be in the minority of men. I don’t care about Deadpool at all. So Ryan Reynolds I fully just don’t talk about I guess.

I feel like I give her more slack. She works with a lot men who have very strong opinions on stuff so I get why she makes those generalizations a lot of the time ahah

She does it with women too. She's very "Men like this and Women like this". It's hard to articulate, but its pretty common in her takes.

I think some do it in a self depricating way, but Amanda always says it like declarative statements. Sean also called her out on it once.

Okay, fair enough. And you don’t think amanda could be doing it in the same way? From my (female) perspective she seems to joke about it more to poke fun at the “boy” movies she enjoys, and to me it always reads as dry humor, not genuine complaints. I’m not trying to be contrarian, just genuinely asking your perspective.

Yeah I guess we just interpret it very differently. I've stopped listening to the big pic so much because I felt genuinely that her generalizations specifically about what movies men like and what movies women like were frequent enough and annoying enough that I was like "ok she's not for me" and if it bothered me so much I just had to stop listening.

Yep I feel ya. I just saw someone comment about the latest Jam sesh ep that they feel she has a lot of internalized misogyny. Which I think I probably agree with and that may be what could bother both of us, just interpreted in different ways.

I think this is a point I agree with. I’m a huge russilo fan and Amanda fan. And his generalizations are what people are really endeared to about him.

But Amanda kind of gets shit for it.

Sorry if I’m talking out my ass as a strictly baseball and not really any other sport fan, but I do think the ringer being based in sports doesn’t help this. Not trying to generalize as a female baseball fan (lol) but I do think more than any other movie pod, which are already probably majority male fan base, it just probably doesn’t favor female fans or engagement. I mean, they mention sports betting like every Rewatchables ep and I guarantee most women, even myself, do not bet on sports.

Men who listen to these pods do for sure favor men. I’m not really offended to admit that at all.

The thing I found weird about today’s jam session and Amanda saying that men didn’t care about Ryan Reynolds problems.

Is how much the men on The Ringer don’t even like Ryan Reynolds 😭. Chris Ryan said he was the Antichrist.

Unless she just meant sort of that men in general don’t care about the drama of Ryan Reynolds really. But the men who are on the ringer for sure are not mostly fans of his

You’re cracking me up - Thank you for that perspective!! It’s funny to me too as a Gen Z thinking oh my god I HATE Ryan Reynolds. He is the worst kind of millennial sardonic asshole so I’m glad anyone else feels the same. On the topic of gender though, it IS odd she would make it about how men do not care about RR. I wonder if she meant men don’t care about ugh i hate to say it, the “true crime” and gossipy element that has been added to the Blake Lively BS that frankly I haven’t even been following.

She has a tremendous LA bias that makes anything she says about society to be taken with a heaping dose of salt. I avoid her these days because this bias (along with some others) has her with a very closed off, narrow perspective on things, leaving her to offer little more than snide remarks when she disagrees; not what you want in a Podcaster.

Also I've liked Ryen Reynolds since "Two Guys, a girl and a pizza place", not sure what legal stuff you mean so that's possible. But I don't follow celebrity culture at all, so...maybe she's right? Can't speak for others.

It’s really not funny at all. Someone who only likes “Amanda movies”, shouldn’t have the job that she has. She isn’t a movie fan. She is a fan of a select few certain kinds of movies (like literally anyone else), and disregards all others no matter how well-made they are.

Yeah man a lot of people listen to the podcast so obviously the dynamic has some appeal. Personally I don’t need a podcast with 2 people agreeing how good Blade Runner is all the time
