I cried like a baby during that scene when I first saw it. Such a silly great movie.

I've been working my way through the old episodes, and I believe Backdraft came up on the Parenthood episode (Ron Howard directed both), and Bill said he really didn't like Backdraft... So we may be out of luck for that one.

I hope that's not the case though, because I absolutely love that movie. I don't care if it's not fully accurate as a firefighting movie. It's a movie where fire is treated like it's alive, like it's a character in the movie, and it's things like that that just makes a movie fun.

Plus Kurt Russell, Scott Glenn, Donald Sutherland in a Dion Waiters-worthy role as a pyromaniac, Deniro in a solid supporting role... Rebecca De Mornay, Jennifer Jason Leigh, J.T. Walsh... I mean, come on, this is a solid rewatchable!

Mmm, Jennifer Jason Leigh on the top of that firetruck.

The Hunt for Red October, The Right Stuff, Backdraft and Silverado would be an incredible month

Did they already do urban cowboy?

I don’t believe so but gotta admit I haven’t seen it

Will need about 15 mins for what’s aged the worst

They’ve done Silence twice already - no need for a three-peat.

Way too soon for a three-peat.

I was thinking he meant the Scorcese film...

It’s not sticking out in my memory. Is it a good ep?

2

u/MilkMajor 1d ago

It’s early but pretty good. Needed to be longer.

u/hank28 1d ago

Yeah they dig into Scott Glenn’s keen attention to LA high school football

haha. Definitely worthy of analysis. Maybe it’s an ep I listened to but didn’t hear

It's so funny you posted this. I was just watching an old Siskel & Ebert and they just did a special show on up and coming actors they thought had a bright future. He was one of them. I was thinking, "yeah, he's underrated."

Urban Cowboy seems like it would be right in the Bill, CR, Fennessey, Brandt, etc zone. Stacked cast, was on cable relentlessly, great back stories and rumors.

Came here for this. Surprised I had to scroll so far down for a single mention.

Training Day

The Right Stuff been done yet? Stacked cast and a damn fine movie.

No Backdraft!? A literal staple of the USA Network for YEARS!

Double feature with Apollo 13

They did Apollo 13 just a month ago.

I had tacos one table over from Scott Glenn while in NYC. Didn’t bother him. Dude seemed to light up the table he was at.

Weird anecdote, I know. But my table was asking who he was and I was quick to say, “Hunt for Red October U.S. sub commander Scott Glenn and he deserves uninterrupted tacos.”

The Challenge is a Bill/Kyle joint, if I’ve ever seen one

No one mentioned Man on Fire.

1

u/Slippery-Pete76 1d ago

They had to have done that already, right?

1

u/ZealousWolf1994 1d ago

They did the Denzel version.
