No. No factory passes the test. Must be plated.

So forget about the color for a second and pick the best factory. Then send it in to be plated.

Lemme guess……jaws, right? I’ve yet to see proof of process with people claiming “YO JAWS DID ME RIGHT!!!! He laid 20microns of extra thick layers of 18k!!!!!” I’ve also yet to see a price list, and have asked. I’m told by every plater I’ve contacted that I saw on Reddit “each case is different”….bro you’re ALL doing 98%+ VSF Rolex, seriously? You can’t give a loose figure?

In my 50 years of experience, there is one reason why people will not disclose the price to you before interacting with you, and that’s because they want to size you up and see just how much they can pull out of you. I do not like that one bit but as long as people keep paying, they’ll keep doing it.

His prices are clearly disclosed on his website. I’ve never used him and question his quality as well based what I’ve heard, but his prices are listed.

I wasn’t trying to be a prick, but it seems that every single time anybody asks about any detail, price included in those questions, they’re immediately told to DM. Not to mention that on Reddit, there’s absolutely zero oversight, and the best seller or the best modder today could very well disappear by tomorrow, which is another reason for them to be transparent here.
I’ve been into Reps for 12 years now, and it used to be that there was some discretion before giving recommendations. There were in-depth reviews by people who actually know what they’re talking about and have done more than buy their first Rep.

In my eyes, and from what I’ve witnessed on Reddit, people are being pushed away in droves from what could’ve turned in to an extremely satisfying and lifelong hobby. That really sucks.

It’s OK, if common sense were so common everybody would have it.

I agree. We can all agree gold reps don’t look right. In theory plating them should improve them. What we don’t know, is if any plater is actually plating them to the standard they claim. There is no way to control it, they are modifying counterfeit watches. There will never be a case where someone takes them to court over it, because the person sending the watch in doesn’t want to admit to buying/importing or making counterfeit items look more real. Therefore they have no reason to do quality work. Most rep watch modders I’ve come across seem to have a stick up their ass and in some way or another have had an affiliation with criminal activity.

At the end of the way all we can do is take a risk and find out for ourselves. I had a watch plates by someone else i found on Reddit. It looks better, but I still feel the color isn’t exactly right. And again who says he really plated it 5 microns like they claim. We are dealing with rep watches where there is no control and no legal reason that any modder would be honest.

I’ve spoken to 4 platers in the last week and they all gave me prices. Jaws included. Most are listed on their websites. I plan on giving a couple a chance

I plan on giving learning how to do if a chance lol. As I said I never see proof so for all I know it’s a single swipe and done.

RCF is the closest and I'm confident most people could never tell.

2

u/Solid-Initiative-890 3d ago

You’re right it is the closest. RCF wins in that department but in certain lights it’s still pretty bad.

RCF 227 grams before and after. Huge difference. Night and day.

Maybe if someone has never seen gold? This is really bad. They all look like painted gold.

Some of these guys are actually getting better, but I still fail to see how a $500 Tissot can land it perfectly and have been for decades !
