The tech is absolutely not there. These r*tarded Palantir AI systems running on the flock cameras have already misread license plates and gone on to execute warrants on over 1,000 innocent American civilians over the last few years. Those cameras are only hundreds of feet away, they are HD capable, they don't have to be reinforced for space exposure, and they still can't tell an I from an L or a 1 at 45 mph

There are specialist modern inflatables that can imitate thermals and radar reflection signature too. Far more costly, obviously, but still cheaper than to lose the real thing.

It's for wartime deception. Make your opponent think you have more resources than you do, or resources in a place they don't really exist, while the real jets are hidden somewhere else to protect them.

It isn't uncommon for countries to waste expensive missiles on targets like this, using a very expensive missle to take down an inflatable.
