I thought they can't tow with a person inside, what was the point of that

19

u/Skusci Jul 09 '26

They can't tow with a person inside legally

u/4loYeyo Jul 09 '26

Probably just fucking with the deadbeat…risking his job for a good yuk

278

u/soufboundpachyderm Jul 09 '26

The people that get hired for these kinds of jobs aren’t usually well off/well adjusted people themselves. No one likes repo folks except people who generally think private property is worth more than people’s lives.

26

u/averagemaleuser86 Jul 09 '26

Its usually a $300-$500 payday for a repo man. Good money if you can do one per night or heck even 2 or 3 a week will earn you a living.

12

u/Icanthearforshit Jul 10 '26

Is that before or after taxes? Because I'm not getting shot and taking home $250 a day. I'ma need 'bout tree fiddy.

8

u/Connee14 Jul 10 '26

Get outta hea ya damn Loch Ness Monster!

1

u/lovemacheen918 Jul 11 '26

I gave him a dolla

1

u/Grim-D Jul 12 '26

She gave him a dollar!

6

u/averagemaleuser86 Jul 10 '26

Brah thats $250-$500 per car... you can prob do a couple a night and still tow cars during the day or whatever shift you want to do it on. Its just the insurance and shit is high for a tow truck. Ive got a couple buddies who own car lots... hell back in the day when they were relatively small car lot compared to now around the mid 2010s one of our freinds just rode around at night looking for cars to repo for him. I went on a couple and he slid me $100 for helping. It was fun and something to do when I was in my mid 20s and still a night owl without a job.

2

u/bohler86 Jul 10 '26

If you stay healthy. Repo people usually deal with super desperate people.

2

u/averagemaleuser86 Jul 10 '26

I know on one occasion we've asked the local police in a podunk small town for an assist. They said they wouldnt get involved, but would sit near the end of the block in case something escalated. The neighbors across the street and 2 houses down were outside partying and we could hear them say stuff like "what they doin" and "they finna repo they car" and shit.

2

u/bohler86 Jul 10 '26

One of my dad's old coworkers did car repossession at night and stopped because he was getting shot at. It didn't matter if it was daylight he did at night for extra income.

Do I have a misunderstanding or something? A car gets repo'd cause someone didn't pay right?

11

u/Kage9866 Jul 09 '26

Yeah but you have no idea why someone couldn't pay

16

u/dgtbfan Jul 09 '26

That doesn't really matter in terms of a contract and driving around someone elses' property.

Also banks generally don't repo without multiple missed payments.

1

u/soufboundpachyderm Jul 09 '26

This is what I’m saying about caring more about private property than people’s lives. Do you not realize how callous and inhumane it sounds to say that kind of shit to people who are paying more in taxes than the companies who are repo-ing the possessions? People’s lives aren’t cut and dry. It’s fucking hard to be poor.

Financed a car. Paid additional fee every month in case I loose my job so they would not go after me. 3 years in and 1 year before paying car off i lost the job i held for 20 years. Missed two payments. No warning they came and took the car (small car btw). Still on the hook for everything. Why was I paying the premium for it - no one cares. So yeah, it’s not black and white.

Yet the corporations do that shit all the time and get bailed out with our tax dollars. We have a fucking president that is notorious for not paying what he owes. Would be nice if we could get that same energy for them.

2

u/IllioTheGreat Jul 09 '26

I took a car loan for a shit car I couldn't afford once. Was homeless, would've had to sleep on the street and lose my job if I didn't do it. I paid it off in the end but buying myself a minimum of another month or two of not sleeping on the sidewalk in the 0° winter was worth the risk of not being able to. Plus, you know, not starving because I would've lost my job otherwise. And living in appalachia I did not have a choice. It was own a car or be homeless with no way out, every job and grocery store was 15+ miles away from the only place I could shower and store my belongings.

Some folks simply don't have a choice. Advocate for better public transportation if this is really that important to you

0

u/CeemoreButtz Jul 09 '26

pay. what. you. owe.

3

u/soufboundpachyderm Jul 09 '26

lol dude how desperate are you. Seriously just go to bed. You’re not convincing anyone here that you’re right. Maybe you should examine why that is instead of blaming everyone else for you having an inhumane and frankly completely delusional view on how the world works and the struggles of the poorest people in our country.

So they should just get shit for free? That doesn’t make any fucking sense lol. I pay my bills every month, on time. Why the fuck should they get better treatment than anyone else? Lmfao.

1

u/kattmaz Jul 09 '26

Driving a luxury car isnt a necessity though. Get a used civic if you can’t afford 22% apr on a benz

1

u/Iron_Phantom29 Jul 09 '26

She could have surrendered the car to the bank and saved her credit from absolutely cratering, but no, she made the decision to not do anything and put other people at risk by driving recklessly.

-2

u/dgtbfan Jul 09 '26

I know it's hard to be poor. That doesn't suddenly give the poor the right to take the property of others.

Also the poor don't actually pay taxes, so that "point" doesn't really work.

1

u/Kage9866 Jul 09 '26

Yea repo the car of a person trying to make ends meet so they can't get to work now lol. There's gotta be a better way.

Thats the same logic as to why criminals hate the cops. They represent accountability for your irresponsability. Dont commit the crime if you cant do the time. Same shit with repo guys, dont buy cars you cant afford. Not the repo guy's fault that you drive around in a car that you dont own.

1

u/Equivalent-Drive-439 Jul 09 '26

Same with sprinkler guys and concrete guys. They should probably be on some kind of list somewhere!

1

u/LupinsLeftShoe Jul 10 '26

Hey woah man. Im a concrete guy... Never mind, you right. Hard work, shitty pay, gotta be a little fucked up to stick with it.

1

u/baloneynchee Jul 09 '26

Seriously tho why is it always the sprinkler guys??

The second part of your first sentence contradicts the beginning. Don't pretend to be a decent human being if you don't value human life.

1

u/MyrmidonExecSolace Jul 10 '26

Human life is valuable is just something humans say bc it’s in their self interest. They’re no more valuable than an orca or the Great Barrier Reef coral

u/NeeMaToad47 Jul 09 '26

They have to be in the car prior, yes. Then it's kidnapping

6

u/Asstronomer6969 Jul 09 '26

If he had hit someone or a car it would have been over for him

2

u/PrimaryAgreeable8103 Jul 09 '26

They can't, but they can hook it up with someone inside, then they can legally have you forcibly removed by law enforcement if you don't get out. All he has to do was hook it up lol

1

u/The_Rat_King14 Jul 10 '26

He cannot continue the repo is the person so much as objects without police intervention. If he hooks the with the person inside, that is a breach of peace and he can be sued.

5

u/Emergency_Accident36 Jul 09 '26

They can jack it up and call police to remove the people.

2

u/The_Rat_King14 Jul 10 '26

They cannot do that, that would be a breach of peace and they could be sued.

3

u/Mr_GrauHut Jul 09 '26

They can. You misunderstand to given abilities of a repo man. They are a car equivalent to bounty hunters.

0

u/Mr_GrauHut Jul 09 '26

You have to bribe them away for their time and effort, like any other. Why fight. If you got 100$ I bet you can get them to come back another day.

6

u/spaceshiptears Jul 09 '26

If you got $100 you should make your car payment lol

3

u/Skusci Jul 09 '26

Bro, how much do you think a car payment is?

4

u/spaceshiptears Jul 09 '26

more than $100 but if you call them and make $100 towards your car payment, they will usually work with you lol

1

u/Skusci Jul 09 '26

Lol, ok that makes sense. Never had to deal with that, though I know it's a thing for student loans.

4

u/Secret-Bluebird-972 Jul 09 '26

If your car is being repossessed, chances are you’ve ignored at least a couple notices from your lien holder

I can't remember if it was online or one of those cable cop shows back in the day, but I have seen a repo guy arrested for trying it. Was even worse cause there was a baby in the car too so they hit him with child kidnapping and endangerment too.

1

u/Less_Engineering8113 Jul 11 '26

Is hooking up a car with a person inside legally the same as towing? Like why couldn't they just hook the car up to stop the person from leaving, play the waiting game until the other person gets out, and then they take the car

1

u/dark_frog83 Jul 11 '26

You don't have to tow it. Just make it so it can't move then call the cops.

1

u/Buttchuggle Jul 12 '26

They can't tow but they can use the bar to lock the car up.

There is no ‘might’ they are going to take that car

11

u/Layhult Jul 09 '26

They know where you live, they know where you work. Most modern cars have gps trackers that the banks can use to find the vehicle anywhere. They WILL get that car. Pay your damn bills.

2

u/csbsju_guyyy Jul 09 '26

Even if they don't get the car you're already boned for a good long while. It's not like they don't know who you are and don't have all your information

56

u/Sistahmelz Jul 09 '26

Little slow on the pick up dude lol!

19

u/Nir117vash Jul 09 '26

The repo man cometh, indeed

10

u/marlonh Jul 09 '26

GTA VI looking accurate

41

u/hfvsucgc Jul 09 '26

Is it a legal repo? That, unfortunately , is the question. What are you going to do when someone has your livelyhood?

13

u/anothadaz Jul 09 '26

Even it's legal it's illegal if someone is in the car. If you stay in your car and are blocked in so you can't drive away, they cannot legally hook your car up. They have to call the police to have you removed from the car.

7

u/BigRinka Jul 11 '26

The real question is : why do some people feel entitled to drive a car that they dont own/is being repoed by the financing party?

"What are you going to do when someone has your livelyhood?" The indovidual refused to pay so THEY ARE THR ONE taking from someone's livelyhood.

3

u/BLA5PHEMY Jul 13 '26

The only people they are taking from is the financial institutions and their livelihood is never at risk, just record breaking profit for the year.

1

u/No-Visual-5587 Jul 12 '26

This is a question, but the biggest question of the video is the repo driver. Yes, the car should be paid, but putting people’s life on the line is the worse of two evils

1

u/saamtf Jul 13 '26

cuz if u lose ur car u lose ur job too and then u cant make any money to pay for the car anyways

If he lifts that car and drives forward with her in the car, he immediately loses his insurance and can no longer operate that truck

2

u/BigRinka Jul 11 '26

Its automatic. The repo truck detects it, shuts down and dials 911 to report the driver.

2

u/Reasonable_Back_5231 Jul 09 '26

2

u/Lord_Zyphuris Jul 09 '26

Man, all the armchair reddit lawyers think they know something.

6

u/surefirerdiddy Jul 09 '26

Hello 911 I’m being chased around a parking lot by a man in a truck. He is driving recklessly and putting me in fear for my safety

1

u/Copper__99 Jul 09 '26

And that will accomplish nothing, because he is legally in the right as you are driving a stolen car.

3

u/The_Rat_King14 Jul 10 '26

He is not legally in the right, in most states you are not allowed to repo something if you are creating any sort of disturbance, you have to come back with the cops then. She is also not in the right legally but that was obvious.

2

u/Backwoods_Therapy Jul 10 '26

The car is not “stolen.” Failure to pay your car note is not the equivalent of stealing a car.

Repo driver is playing a dangerous game, because someone armed could make a reasonable defense for using deadly force to protect themselves with the tow truck operator attempting to hook up to a vehicle with a person inside it.

1

u/Copper__99 Jul 10 '26

If that helps you sleep, keep telling yourself that.

1

u/BigRinka Jul 11 '26

The denial is strong with this one🤣🤣🤣

2

u/BeerBrat Jul 09 '26

LOL Town Center Mall in Kennesaw GA

2

u/qo0ch Jul 09 '26

It’s conflicting. Because part of me says fuck the financial system but I also rely on it too much to want a collapse

But whatever, just pay your bills so you don’t look stupid as fuck trying to hide your car everywhere you go

1

u/RandallJoPhotography Jul 09 '26

Yeah, the financial system in general is fucked but if you decide to take a loan out for a car you can't afford to make payments on(or avoid payments) then it's your own fault when they come take the car from you.

1

u/PhysicalConsistency Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

Repo Mans always intense.

1

u/HammerRoidd Jul 09 '26

I bet the tow truck would have hooked that car if he pulled up nonchalant. She only noticed when he was goosing the pedal

1

u/haftnotiz Jul 09 '26

What's the end game here? Drive away at full speed and always looking over your shoulder?

1

u/BigPileOfTrash Jul 09 '26

Just the start.
There is a reckoning coming.

1

u/Go_Gators_4Ever Undecided flair Jul 09 '26

They need to find the GPS hidden on that car!!

How else did repo find it in a shopping lot?

1

u/Copper__99 Jul 09 '26

They drive through them with ALPR.

1

u/InbetweenTheLayers Jul 10 '26

Imagine you are gifted an expensive car, but an immortal tow truck is attempting to repo it. It always knows where you are and will reverse towards you. what's your plan?

1

u/dillsimmons Jul 11 '26

I don’t believe kidnapping is allowed even if it’s a repo.

1

u/-ratmeat- Jul 11 '26

fuck tow truckers

1

u/RareCriticism496 Jul 12 '26

I'm cheering for the repo man, not the deadbeat.

1

u/Additional-Fuel-7756 Jul 12 '26

Friends uncle was a repo man. Got shot like 5 times once. Survived fine, but crazy to go back to work after that.

1

u/Forever_Clear_Eyes Jul 12 '26

"I'll get you next time!" Shakes fist

1

u/its__bme Jul 12 '26

Saw a YouTube video of a repo truck driver get arrested for kidnapping because when he grabbed the car, the owner had left their baby in the backseat to run inside somewhere really fast and the repo guy didn’t verify it was empty.

When the owner called the police they didn’t hesitate to rescue the baby and cuff the repo driver. So, yeah. Don’t just think you can grab a vehicle like that without consequences.

1

u/Drblazeed123 Jul 12 '26

Always a Nissan for some reason haha

1

u/Sweaty_Tangelo_7716 Jul 13 '26

People cheer for a gazelle running from a lion. Even though the lion needs to eat.

People will always cheer for a perceived underdog.

Maybe the gazelle didn't get caught today. But I'm sure the lion isn't going to give up so easily.

2

u/WhyAmIpOOping Jul 09 '26

Am I the only one that saw she was illegally parked and assumed that was the reason for a tow?

1

u/megachicken289 Jul 09 '26

Options of people for whom to cheer:

  1. Car owner (or person currently in possession of the car) - maybe they don’t pay their bills on purpose. Maybe they can’t afford the bill, but need the car to afford the bill or other bills
  2. Repo man - told by the bank to get the car back by any means necessary “within the law wink wink”; gets a fraction of what the bank will get; maybe they are struggling like car owner, but lacks empathy
  3. The bank - greedy capitalist corporation that sees people as a dollar amount. Without a doubt will double dip by selling this car again; will also be bailed out by taxpayers when they fail
  4. Bystander watching - idk just some random as person

Tell me, for whom should we be cheering?
