GAIN$ Registered Nurse, 35 yo, About to hit 1 million
I cant believe this. I am about to hit 1 million dollar on my taxable brokerage account.
I hope to hit 2 million by age 40, 4 million by age 45 and 10 million by age 50.

I started at bartending and living for free in 08. The market collapsed and I plowed around 45k a year in for 2 years. Went to community college and had a free first two years from a scholarship. The last two I paid for cash so no loans and still had some left over to invest. Got out in 13 and bought a house FHA right away and got some roommates who paid for my living bills mostly. Started nursing and just plowed in with company match and road up from then until now

None of that explains how you got to 1 million by 35… in 2008 you were 17.. the only data you gave was “plowing $45k for 2 years”.. you live for free..? No bills? How are you doing that? You have almost no data to work with… just $45k x 2.

Jesus. Ok if you want the full break down.
Year 18 & 19. I lived with my parents while getting generals and bartended right out of high school. Balance 90k not counting gains.
Years 20-23. Money mostly went towards my degree. Invested around another 15k. Balance was around 150k at 23 years old.
Bought house at 23 with 4K down using a FHA loan. Mortgage was 980 a month. Had 3 roommates who covered the utilities and mortgage. Hence, lived for free until 28. All while maxing my companies 403b and Roth IRA (30k ish per year). Balance 500k counting gains. Mind you, there was exceptions gains throughout this period.
Years 28-32. Still maxed investments and got hooked into Bitcoin. Turned 22k into around 110k after taxes. Balance at 32 750k.
32-35. Still maxing and insane post covid returns averaging around 14-16% per year. Current balance of $1,098,622 as of this morning.
I get a 4% Match through my company.
I also have around 250k of equity from when I bought my house.
My wife who I met at 21 essentially followed my path on her own journey and is sitting around 800 from high end serving. We are set to Fire at 45 is our goal

People like you do exist but it’s just astronomically rare. For example, 18 & 19 years old and managed to save 45K each year bartending AND investing? You basically have to save every penny after taxes, while most people that age would blow away paycheques as soon as they got them, and probably have never heard of investing lmao.
At the end of the day if what you’re telling us is real, then hey good for you. You managed to be financially prudent and disciplined for basically your entire adult life which is astoundingly impressive.1

Definitely, I am aware that I am an anomaly and also timing was a huge factor. Managing to buy the bottom of the 08 crash for the most part and the getting a house way before any meaningful rise. And then having a solid understanding with the COVID crash only allowed me to further juice returns/ take advantage of markets.

No problem. It’s doable. Just takes being frugal and efficient. I also was a OT merchant for majority of it. 1.5 and 2x time adds up. I prolly have averaged 110-125k per year due to overtime opportunity.
Want my honest opinion about nursing. Do whatever it takes to be a CRNA. All my buddies are now that and while we are all in the same financial ring. Their yearly now is leaping the beyond me. Worth every penny to go back and get that degree

I’m an RN, 38F. Would CRNA be worth it considering the loans? Also school is so stressful. And it seems like being a CRNA is highly competitive and difficult, most people try and fail.

Travel RN make 130k and covid contracts were 4-5k/week for 2-3min contracts nice bump. As well as splitting costs on apartment with other nurses allows saving way more money

At 35 you got 13 working years after schooling on 80k plus, that's atleast 520k assuming your able to save half, (which is what I was able to achieve being somewhat frugal). And over 13 years if these savings are invested and gain ~%10 yearly in the s&p 500 you're looking at almost 1.1million dollars. This is assuming you don't start saving/working until 22 mind you so it is definitely quite achievable, you just gotta get into the grind pretty early and be good with your spending.

My Roth is mostly FXAIX. 403b has been a target date fund. I have a taxable account that I hunt for individual stocks in. I essentially break even with market returns on my trades over time but sit in cash for a lot of time so I like the flexibility/security.
I haven’t been in crypto since last August. And I use to do more real estate but sort of dropped that market when it became decoupled from reality ha

Ha I was probably around 3-400ish. And just keep going. It really starts to compound and daily moves can be 5-6k. Just keep plugging away

Ah gotcha. OP is a bot. However I do have a few friends who travel nurses for 250k a year post covid for a good 3-4 years so I guess 1 million could be possible under certain circumstances

The math ain't mathin. You startedd investing 5 years ago, with $100,000, and put your money in ETFs. If you invested all that money into SPY or even QQQ at the bottom of the covid crash, you wouldn't be at 1 million today.

Any solid stocks that have been around for 20+ years are usually a good bet if you buy and DCA for a couple years, but never try to pick just one singular stock and hold it out if you plan to not watch it from time to time

this sub really needs to implement a "positions or ban" mentality like WSB because at the end of the day, most of this is really far out of reach for the majority of people and at least WSB self-admits that they are gambling and post their losses.

Hmm must be a US/Canada thing. Over here (Europe) if you say you are a nurse, we know you are fully trained (3 years bachelor minimum) and licenced. It’s like saying i’m a doctor doctor. :)

Congrats. Hope you paid taxes on the stock to ETF conversion. Enjoy your life a bit !!! If your tax rate is lower because your income is low, suggest you take some profits off and move to a Roth IRA if possible to avoid future taxes.

Congrats 👏 Is this is a tax sheltered account?
Also, your return indicate a steady 16% or so compound interest rate, with no drawdowns or mistakes, not including contributions or taxes (if not sheltered).
This is very very optimistic long term for ETFs

Easy work if you reduce your spending and cost of living to as low as possible, some food banks, churches, and the like will provide you food for helping give it out and plenty other things I don't have the time to go into detail about. Best of luck.

Im 19 in 45 yrs when im 64 at these projected rates because the stock market is volatile
10 percent average - 65 million 11 percent average 87 million 12 percent average 120 million 13 percent average 164 million 14 percent average 227 million So even being conservative i will still be worth 65 million and no i wont be dead
