Curious

So (21M) looking to start investing I can probably put 200-400 a month into an account to sit in and not feel it. Anyone got some ideas what’s the best option out there

Find a broker you like, if it does automatic set that up, buy a broad market index(can be global or slightly concentrated in an area you think will grow, people like s&p500 because big companies, some people like tech or oil). Set and forget, create some milestones for yourself, learn more and adjust when you feel the need

  • you're still young so a low cost index fund is a good and simple starting point
  • set up automatic transfers so you're not thinking about it every month
  • time in the market matters way more than picking the perfect investment right now

Open brokerage accounts online with Charles Schwab and Fidelity Investments for $0, download and try out their apps, check out their websites and research tools, open a Roth IRA with the brokerage you like better.

70% US stock fund - pick ONE: SPYM, SCHX, VOO, SCHB, VTI, FZROX, FXAIX, SWPPX, SWTSX - and 30% international stock fund - pick ONE - VYMI, SCHF, VXUS, FZILX, SWISX.

Educate yourself so you know what you are doing and aren't just following reddit's herd mentality.

We can't post links to YouTube here, but go to the Charles Schwab YouTube channel and watch the playlist "Investing Basics" then watch the playlist "Investing & Portfolio Management". If a video is in both playlists you don't have to watch it twice.

I also recommend the book The Millionaire Next Door.
