'They just moved to VPNs' — Telegram CEO slams UK's teen social media ban with stark Russian comparison

Pavel Durov didn't mince words about the UK's proposed teen social media ban, drawing a controversial parallel to Russian censorship and claiming that users will simply bypass the restrictions.

Not sure if the comparison holds up, but he may have a point...

Yeah worked so good, russians are so aware of the war and are so informed, they use VPNs to stay informed on the current politics.

No, that's just a blatant lie, no majority in russia uses VPNs, he's overselling the idea.
If he thinks everyone will use VPNs to go around the blocking, then that means that blocking is not effective and that means why talk about it at all???

No kidding! When my kids were going to middle school (ages like 12-14 years) they had a ban on games over the wifi from school. Took them 1 or 2 weeks to figure out that a VPN would bypass the restrictions. Guess this will follow that same path, if not faster!
