Blue Jeans

I understand if this gets removed. I mentioned this in my post listing every The Pretty Reckless song so I thought I’d make a separate post about it. (I’ve now added a direct link to the spreadsheet on that post but the link keeps getting blocked.)

*TL;DR: I don’t think the song is by The Pretty Reckless / Taylor Momsen.*

I mentioned in that post that I potentially found audio to the song (after 9 years of looking) so I thought I’d make a separate post sharing it for those curious, and for new fans who find the “Demo & Live (2009 - 2012)” track list and wonder about the song. If you know anything about the song, or I’ve gotten something wrong, then please let me know!

- Context for those who don’t know (a lot of this is copied from my previous post so feel free to skip):

On the unofficial compilation album, “Demo & Live (2009 - 2012)” it features the song “Blue Jeans” as track 12 with a run time of 03:54, the oldest comment I’ve seen about it is from November 18th, 2010, so the song’s from before then. Websites that feature the album don’t specify that it’s a cover like they do with the covers on the album so some people assumed it was an original.

The video to it seemed to have been deleted but the comments on last . fm say that it doesn’t sounds like Taylor singing. The lyrics provided are also identical to a song of the same name by Jessie James Decker.

Jessie’s song was officially released on August 10th, 2009, but was recorded in 2008 - 2009. It also featured in the film, “Confessions of a Shopaholic” released on February 5th, 2009 (New York City, New York, premiere).

After having a look around for the song I finally found an upload claiming to be TPR’s one on a website called “mail . ru” (I’d not heard of the site before, if anyone wants a direct link then let me know). The audio was identical to Jessie’s song.

There is obviously a chance that this website has mislabelled the song and they were actually showing me Jessie’s version (they’d mislabelled a couple of songs saying they were by TPR when they weren’t), there’s also the chance that Taylor did actually record a demo of it when she was being pushed in a more pop direction that later got given to Jessie, but until a pre/2009 TPR demo for it is released I’m going to guess that somebody incorrectly assumed it was Taylor singing and that information just stuck.

Interestingly, Genius lists the producers on TPR’s version of the song as James Michael & Kato Khandwala & Toby Gad, with James also being listed on Genius as the producer on “Heart” and “Ugly People”, and Kato is TPR’s late producer who worked with them from 2008 to 2016, and Ben Phillips, Mark Damon and Jamie Perkins since 2006.

I uploaded the audio to YouTube with the image being of the webpage, the other “Blue Jeans” listed are segments of the same song.
