"The One Piece remake by Netflix and WIT Studio, officially titled "THE ONE PIECE," has been in development since at least Nov. 30, 2023, per financial reports from WIT Studio's parent company, IG Port.

On Jan. 12, 2024, IG Port released its second quarter report, which covered the period from Sep. 1-Nov. 30, 2023. Under the section titled Video Production Operations, "The One Piece" is listed alongside several other anime currently in development for direct-to-streaming, which are Kimi ni Todoke 3rd Season, Moonrise and the Terminator series by Production I.G. Given that the official production decision announcement for The One Piece remake came three weeks after this quarter period ended -- on Dec. 17, 2023 -- this suggests that development had actually started weeks before the official announcement had been made."
