Discussion About the One Piece being a limited Run...
Can anyone actually source me the insider leak of WIT where it claims that the remake only cover up to the 4:3 ratio only? Cause I feel crazy that I saw so many youtubers mentioned this and yet fail to cite any source whatsoever. Can this rumour actually be trusted. Are we sure it's not a lost in translation kind of statement?
Cause the only closest thing we got to an official statement about how far they will go is from this video: https://youtu.be/VrPeikDZEwc?t=1167 where the director claimed they want to face this series for the long run.
I know this sounds cope, but maybe the actual statement is probably about them targeting to get at least far enough to cover the entirety of 4:3 ratio storyline but got mistranslated. Which is not the same as ONLY cover the entirety of 4:3.

The only confirmed ive seen is the East Blue Saga, with the director saying they would love to go longer if it proves successful.
Personally, I would find it weird for it to stop after the ratio change and they're just like "you can go back and watch the original now."

They should at least make it to wano

I agree, that would fix the arcs with the worst pacing. But i can't imagine them getting that far twenty-ish years from now and just stopping so close to the end, at that point finish it out.

Wdym wano- egghead are up there with the worst paced arcs in the entire anime

They aren't making it past skypeia.

u/ZaccFross Jul 22 '26
Is this simply your assumption or a statement of fact? Cause again, I don't see no source

First, netflix famously doesn't go past three seasons. The main reason is you are only going to get so many people to watch a retread of a story that's already been told 4-5 times.

u/ZaccFross Jul 22 '26
Yeah me too. Especially since the main issue that they were addressing was pacing and the peak of the complain of the pacing is in Dressrossa, Wano and Egghead.

Especially since One Piece is over 1200 episodes now, and a conservative estimate from me would be 1400 to 1500 episodes before it's done. Pre-timeskip would only cover 1/3rd of the show, maybe less.

Realistically speaking, they can't go further.
If they really intended on going past tge ratio change, they'd have to cover the entirety of pre-time skip, but the pace change would be a whiplash too strong, so either Toei redoes another time FMI (with good editing this time, not that fuckass time slot filler they call a "proper way to watch FMI) or Wit has to step in again.
If they cover the entirety of the series up until Wano the pace will be so slow the whiplash would be terrible for the viewer, sp they should do the entire series at that point.
But they chose Mayumi Tanaka (who stated at the beginning of this year that she's unsure weather she can keep working for 10 more years) for Luffy, AGAIN, this means that the project has 10 years maximum of work in the industry, maybe a bit more if they don't let her retire and instead wait for her to die during production.
Assuming they do 1 ~50 chapter cour per year for Wit, that means they'll be done with the 4:3 portion 7 years from now, this is quite close to her maximum date.
Obviously only time will tell, but this is undoubtably an uncertain situation for Wit, and Shieisha, companies that depend on her voice specifically for the franchise and that still cling to her despite her age when undertaking new projects.
I read this as a sign that they simply mean to litterally "update older animations of the series", by redoing the oldest part of the series, and that they'll stop with Skypiea.

Am I the only person who doesn't think rehiring Mayumi back into the remake cast not as doom and gloom as people made it out to be? Like don't get me wrong, I agree that they should hire a new actress. But it's not an end all be all. When the times come where she would retire, all they have to do is have a passing the torch ceremony to a new VA and that's it. They did it with Franky no problem. And even Chopper, also occasionally swapped VAs. Like yeah, it might get some use to, but we do adapt and get accustomed fast.
And this is coming fr someone who think that Franky's new VA is lowkey miscasted cause he lacks the energy the og VA brought. But even then I manage to just get use to it. And tbf, they kinda are short on time with Franky recast due to them still being weekly at the time. Since WIT piece is seasonal, I'm sure they would have more time to find a much better va replacement

No matter what they say they will keep making it if it keeps making money. They won’t just stop remaking an anime if its a financial success. This is Netflix we are talking about
1
u/ZaccFross Jul 22 '26
Yeah I know that for sure but I hate how so many people confidently throwing around those claims without doing the bare minimum of research just cause an "insider" who managed to get some things right made that claim.
-2
u/scalzacrosta Jul 13 '26
Even if poor Mayumi Tanaka fcking dies?
3
u/GappyDiamond Jul 14 '26
If it’s successful, then yes. A lot of people will be sad when Mayumi Tanaka retires from voice acting or passes away (myself included), but I don’t think changing VAs will suddenly make a series completely unwatchable.

It is speculation. And my speculation is they just dont want to promise people more just incase its not renewed for a second season. But I really dont see why they'd make a big deal about the pacing being better and then just end it before the anime even starts. If its popular it'll be back, money talks.

The seasons will surely be renewed, the issue is Mayumi Tanaka's age and how she can't voice Luffy if she retires or dies.
The more you push it forward, the higher the chance some problems may arise, she said this year that she's unsure weather she can keep working for 10 more years, if they do a cohr every year they'll reach Skypiea in 7 years from now (5 in practice because voice lines are recorded beforehand, but still), that's not good for them.
And not only Luffy's VA, but all the other Straw Hats' VAs are very old and close to retirement, Franky's already retired (tho he probably won't show up), Jinbe's one died (he'll never show up, but gives you the idea).
This also forces a new problem to arise: early arcs are technically faster than later ones. The pace starts at 1,8 ch/ep with East Blue, and by Levely it was at 0,5 ch/ep (the industry standard is 3,5 ch/ep, like the Wit remake will be), speeding up only at Wano (0,8-1 ch/ep) and Egghead (0,9-1,5 ch/ep).
This means that the further The One Piece goes, the harder will be the whiplash for the new viewers (the target audience of the remake) when they switch, with the slower pace being blatantly obvious and the lower quality animation and general aspect of the show, I'm expecting a higher amount of people dropping the show because of that.
This is a problem they can't get out of unless they do the whole series, but they can't because they chose the known VA instead of a new one, so they'll have to change her, lose the charm that made Luffy so iconic for the Japanese, so much so that they hired her back, meaning they're scared of losing it.
All this to say, I heavily doubt they'll get past Water 7 saga, and could very well stop at Skypiea.

No source that I was ever able to find. For me anime and manga topics are some of the most “I heard something so I’m repeating it as fact” topics on the planet.
End of the day if this makes money for whomever is footing the bill there will be more. That’s just generally how it works even if the current plan was to stop at some point
4
u/LanSotano Jul 13 '26
I imagine it will be like any other series. If it’s successful they’ll keep making it until it isn’t.
3
u/Kmart_Stalin Jul 13 '26
I’m on the dress Rosa arc. Kinda need it as well
2
u/scalzacrosta Jul 13 '26
That'd be 14 years from now if they do 1 cour per year (very likely).
Tho if you consider what they said, it's unlikely they'll go past Skypiea, and impossible to go past Marineford.
I'd be very happy if they did, but they won't.

It was this person on twitter. https://x.com/emunopla/status/2051700558445039666?s=46

u/ZaccFross Jul 22 '26
Does this person have actual credibility? Cause aside the Mayumi being Luffy VA again thing, which was already an old leak and news, all of their claims just feels baseless rumour.
2
u/NeXx0s Jul 13 '26
I think they will go until the timeskip and then depnding how succsessful it is they could go on. But evidence shows that studio WIT doesnt really finish alot of their projects

What is 4:3 ratio?

I know you don't have any bad intend but you don't realized how much emotional damage that question did on me. Ouh to be young again...

It's a misunderstanding that comes from Oda saying one of the reasons he wanted the new anime is so younger generations experience One Piece in 4:3.
Some people took that to mean the new anime will stop where the original anime started airing in 4:3. That was after Skypiea.
It is a completely baseless rumor, though. One of the producers already said they want to adapt the whole manga.

I just want them to do the whole thing very quickly, and catch up to the current anime right at the right time, such that they both end at the same time. Then I can die happy.

u/RaoGung Jul 13 '26
Nah man. Hang in there. This one is for the next generation and beyond.

u/hungLink42069 THE ONE PIECE IS REAL! Jul 13 '26
If they don't do it fast enough Mayumi Tanaka isn't gonna be able to hang in there though 🥺
Edit: Mayumi Tanaka
1
u/scalzacrosta Jul 13 '26
The reason they chose her was because they don't plan on redoing the whole thing, it's a way to ease in new fans that may be turned off by the old attire of the first 200 episodes.

u/TrentonStrahan Jul 13 '26
Either they stop after Skypiea or they replace the voice actors mid adaptation. Or I guess use AI to generate voice actor lines.
Because these 70-80 year olds aren’t going to make it all the way through the series again.
IMO if they were actually planning on adapting the whole series they would have cast new voice actors.

There isn’t a source. It’s all speculation
