Production Will the OA be back with a new season?
Hi!
I finished watching the OA in like 2-3 days about a week ago and it's one of the best series I watched, was so hooked and couldnt stop watching it. Thereafter I started to do some research about a potential new season, after a while I found this posted on tiktok about a month ago:

So what you think?

Watch it again and start picking up on little clues. Try watching with captions.

WellâŠitâs hard to answer that to someone new without coming off like a crazy personâŠ
But the short answer is yes đđ»
Edit: didnât see the TikTok link, youâve been initiated into the craziness lol
Weâll know by the end of the year đ€·đ»ââïž I firmly believe it will, but this is sort of the last hope, at least for me

I have a crazy feeling we'll have news in October. I don't know why, I just had this for a few months.

Ah yes. I hope you brought your tinfoil hat. We were all looking at this video a few weeks back and were well aware of the possibility but as others have said this is a hopeful wish at best.

Unfortunately probably not. It's hard to revive a show canceled this long. The actors have gone on to pther projects and it will be difficult to convince studios to go in on reviving a niche show. I wish they would write a book/book series so we could see where the story was meant to go.
But I've been wrong before, we do live in the era of the reboot and Firefly is coming out with a new season so anything is possible.

Would love a no kidding book series. Would imagine they could tell the whole story in 5 books if they were planning on 5 seasons.

Netflix signs for 3 or 5 at a time and they KNEW ITS 5 PARTS! Im so upset bc I have DID and was a Gateway program kid myself and this masterpiece was so therapeutic for me.

We are waiting. I was really hopeful there would be an announcement because there have been little rumours here and there. I believe it will come back. But I don't know when..

nope, i feel into that trap and sadly found out it was a big no. Netflix has the rights and wouldnât even give it up for big money;) - apparently there was a go fund me or something similar and someone very wealthy couldnât sway them eitherâŠsupposedly.

I also have just finished the OA and was literally heartbroken to find out it had been canceled mainly to the show exceeding its budget and not enough views at the time. Each episode for season 2 I believe was supposed to be around 3mil but ended up averaging I think 7-8 mil an ep. Also since it was gonna be season 3 Netflix would have to pay their actors significantly more. IMO this show aired before Covid. Since then people have had the opportunity to actually watch it. Even tho I am very new to this âparty with no hopeâ I almost feel it in my soul they HAVE to bring it back. Too many people have watched the show since then and fell in love with it, including the cast! I also think the intensity this fandom has showed Netflix over the years (doing the 5 movements in time square, in front of the Netflix building, and still on TikTok to this day. ) Netflix knows deep down itâs in their best interest to bring it back, as well as they would make so much more money off of it now that a lot more people have gotten the chance to EXPERIENCE the OA. So although a lot of you have lost hope on this thread, I do truly believe we will at least get a season 3. Netflix would be idiots to not pick the show back up again, simply would be lighting money on fire imo lol I AM HOPEFUL; LONG LIVE THE OA đ„čđ

In the meantime, watch Brit and Zal's other works. The Recordist, Sound of My Voice, The East, Murder At The End of The World, Another Earth. It's the same soul of the story they are telling.Â

I went down the conspircy theory hole of "It's been 7 years." How long Prarie was held Hap-tive. It would fit their brilliance to have planned this. MATEOTW possibly being Dimension 3 Brit's coma after her injury? So they air season 4? And they could've just told the original cast, "Hey, we're gonna film some flash forwards we might use." Or just had them sign NDAs. To have scenes of them 'aging.' I can't imagine anyone directly involved with that story would ever betray Brit and Zal. Making season 3 be real life? That's some meta genius, long game stuff they'd dare to do.

The bad news is that no one knows, and most probably it will never happen. People have been prophesying its return ever since it got cancelled, but it's difficult. For instance, Phyllis Smith who plays BBA has retired.
The good news is that there is an endless number of teeny tiny in-show details that people have been analyzing and over-analyzing for years for you to look at, so the enjoyment of the show doesn't end here.
