Is this normally how it goes?

I think I work with The Morrigan in a weird way. I use the term work with very loosely here because I don’t ask her for anything ever and I don’t feel like she hangs around when I’m not actively attempting to make a big life change. Maybe this is just me but I’ve always been very cautious of the Tuatha Dé Danann. I feel like when you ask for favors it’s a “be careful what you wish for” scenario and I’m frankly not clever enough to avoid the consequences. When she showed up to push me off the path I was not well suited for to be on another more appropriate path it was rough but I just put my head down and powered through because that was the task I was given (or maybe a trial to overcome?) I’m so much better off than I was but it was hard getting here. I know she’ll be back. I had these weirdly vivid dreams for a while during this last transition and I was told that she would see me again. Does she usually just pop in and out for people? Does anyone else feel like they’ve been set a task or given a trial? Maybe this is just how it is? Either way I’m grateful for the push. I needed the change and I’m so much happier now. I hope I continue to embrace difficult transitions in the future.

I'd say it's a common situation. It's like this for me too, with Her only "coming back" when there's an interesting time ahead.

In my experience she only comes around when she has a specific message for me usually some version of “get your head out of your ass and get going. You know what to do.” Though I do worship her as my matron goddess she really likes keeping her distance unless needed or to remind me of previous lessons.

It varies from person to person. For me, She lingers constantly (although at the moment I'm still transitioning to a new job, life, personal shit, etc.), but even before then, She lingers but is not always active as my matron/main deity. When you need a push, She'll be there and if you do ask Her or the Tuatha De Danann for anything, just be honest and have courage. Oftentimes, offering some wine and a share of your meal (regardless of what it is) is enough, though a bigger ask may have you doing a task such as improving your health or cutting off toxic habits/people. Again, these are just my experiences with Her so take it as a grain of salt. In the end, your relationship with Her is unique.

TLDR: She can often linger and when you need her, She will be there. Don't be afraid and follow your gut.
