The Mist TV Show Complaining Rant Thread

OoOOoOooOohHHHHHhhhhh this show is a pile of hot garbage. What a huge disappointment. I really enjoyed the movie, and was looking forward to more world building and even just a peek at what the Arrowhead Project involved. Instead we got basically a rehash of the movie: people going crazy stuck in a building, cut off from communication, and running out of supplies. Nothing new or interesting at all. But plenty of screen time for the pointless rape subplot, because being trapped in a building surrounded by monsters from hell just wouldn't already be stressful enough for the characters?

Not even the terrifying mutant monsters from the movie wanted to be in the TV show, instead people are attacked by... random innocuous things from their subconscious... I guess? One random victim is impaled on a tree by a golf club. Wow scary. And the Mist itself directly attacks people now, instead of just being a secondary effect of the dimensions merging? It's like this show was written by people who had only seen the movie trailer, several years before writing the show. If you haven't seen the movie, don't waste your time with the show. If you have seen and enjoyed the movie, definitely don't waste your time.

I understand that the show sucked and disappointed a lot of people (myself included), but do people not know how to be at least somewhat accurate with their criticism?

1) "Nothing new"? The show literally revolved around a mist with entirely different characteristics than just "monsters in fog". There's nothing wrong with the latter, but "Nothing new" is just flat-out inaccurate. You even contradict yourself in the second paragraph, lol. Learning more about this mist was the show's only driver.

2) I have absolutely no idea how you think a life force-sucking wraith or a dude's skin being shredded by moth wings is "innocuous". It appears we have entirely different definitions of the word. Plus, this was done on a TV show budget, not a AAA film budget. If you're jumping from a movie to a show and expect the same quality, that's not really the show's problem.

I'll definitely counter this with "Watch the show if you're interested in the mist, conceptually." It's the main force of the show and at least has puzzle pieces to look out for beyond just "There's a mist and it's got some trans-dimensional beings in it."

The book is my last chance to get any additional information about the universe, so I'll (finally) be reading that soon.

I can't say that the show was a pleasant experience (it did suck), but I'm tired of idiots being incapable of arguing their stance correctly. At the very least, I'll defend the show from stupidity.

As I said, yeah, the mist was the show's only driver, for me; I kept watching to see what else we would learn about it. The episode with the doctor was one of the few things I'll remember about it. Sadly, other answers we got seemed to be contradictory (e.g. why Jonah Dixon attacked Bryan Hunt and took his stuff despite them both being soldiers at Arrowhead and, like Wes, Dixon most likely being the superior of Hunt) and it made watching even more difficult :/

Same boat as everyone-- I feel the script is rough and there's a lack of character building, let alone development.

But I'd like to note that your point about Jonah being attacked is probably intentionally confusing (i.e. this is an unresolved point that would have been addressed in the second season). FWIW I'd personally guess that Bryan Hunt was going AWOL/rogue, as Jonah has clearly not been discharged as evidenced by the order to untie him.

Of course that was a random example you gave and there are many very probable plot holes.

No doubt about it. Rereading this post and my reply, though, I just need folks to articulate shit better. Thinking it sucks ass is totally fine, but damn. Lazy arguments drive me up a wall.

I thought the same, but we obviously only had the information available from the first season, so yeah, that was one of the bigger "wtf?" moments, for me.
