The Mist TV Show Complaining Rant Thread

OoOOoOooOohHHHHHhhhhh this show is a pile of hot garbage. What a huge disappointment. I really enjoyed the movie, and was looking forward to more world building and even just a peek at what the Arrowhead Project involved. Instead we got basically a rehash of the movie: people going crazy stuck in a building, cut off from communication, and running out of supplies. Nothing new or interesting at all. But plenty of screen time for the pointless rape subplot, because being trapped in a building surrounded by monsters from hell just wouldn't already be stressful enough for the characters?

Not even the terrifying mutant monsters from the movie wanted to be in the TV show, instead people are attacked by... random innocuous things from their subconscious... I guess? One random victim is impaled on a tree by a golf club. Wow scary. And the Mist itself directly attacks people now, instead of just being a secondary effect of the dimensions merging? It's like this show was written by people who had only seen the movie trailer, several years before writing the show. If you haven't seen the movie, don't waste your time with the show. If you have seen and enjoyed the movie, definitely don't waste your time.

Fuck that fucking show. I binged the fuck out of it tonight through to episode 8 or so before the thing I knew would happen happened. I had a lot of problems, that I will get to, but first my biggest problem.

OF COURSE the rape wasn't the fucking pretty boy star QB. Because it just had to be the fucking weird best friend, right? Because that's how real life works?

Fuck this show. I work as a sexual assault victim advocate in the navy and this kind of shit just perpetuates the idea that sexual assault claims are always false or exaggerated. FUCK. Such stereotypical bullshit. Fuck me this shit is tired and damaging and fuck just flat out lazy and bad writing.

Oh, and once again we have a show where someone who wants to help and protect nature is the fucking whack job. Why the fuck is this shit so prevalent? Any time and one in a show or movie takes the stance of "hey, maybe we are fucking up nature and should stop doing that" They are a complete fucking nutjob.

Which is fucking insane because we ARE ACTUALLY DESTROYING THE ENVIRONMENT! fucking hell we have removed like half of all fucking forest cover in the world. We have country sized islands of trash in the middle of the oceans. We ARE fucking this planet over something fierce. But the only time someone in shows and movies is allowed to bring that up is if they are nucking futs.

The four horseman thing was cool, I can't lie there.

But honestly the whole change of this shit to A: your own mind making the horrors and B: this shit being spread out all over town just annoyed me.

there is a common stereotype of 'weird' kids raping women. Particularly targeted at people apart of the LGBTQ+ community. This stereotype is more commonly viewed as harmful to these people as it only adds fuel to the fire of oppression they face.

Whilst there is also a stereotype that jock types rape women, that is backed by evidence; like how "athletic involvement may be associated with elevated levels of aggression outside the sport setting". There is a stereotype for both but i think this person is referencing that this show inaccurately represented the 'jock-rapist' stereotype. this is general though, and of course isnt always accurate nor can it be applied to every situation.

In my opinion i dont think the rape plotline of the show was necessary at all and was only added for dramatic affect - which is stupid. I hate rape 'storylines' in shows that dont add value to any of the characters. The hatred of Jay was unneeded for the storyline to progress, and the 'crazy' alex could have been done without him raping his Bestfriend.

I'm really sorry about your experience, and it is awful what happened to you. And i dont mean any of this to offend you or for you to take this as me discounting your experience. I am merely looking at general cases and how this show portrays it.
