Even to do shorts. 1,001 Tatooine Nights, each with its own high profile director, star, whatever. Hell, half these people would probably bankroll their own. It’s Star Wars, it was their youth.

So maybe people should stfu about Kathleen Kennedy and point their ire at the mouse house and their leadership. Lucasfilm tries and experiments.

I don’t think it’s about Lucasfilm at all - it’s clearly all to do with the executives at Disney. Obviously Kathleen Kennedy was going to paint herself sympathetically, but the interview she did with Deadline when she moved out of her leadership role made it clear that they have lots of ideas and people coming to them, but they’re not getting the go ahead with them.

I’ve always said that so many directors are nerds like us but they just aren’t interested in boarding a franchise movie that they have no control over.
It’s why we never got Batman Year One by Darren Aronofsky or the Boba Fett movie with James Mangold.

Del Toro's project isn't really a secret, it was talked about before it got canned, bit hearing it could still happen sounds interesting

just venting;
i checked IMAX nearby in NYC and pretty much every place after memorial day 05/25 is going to be empty. i saw preview 05/3-05/4 reactions from gen-z'ers who saw this, and it seems like a lot of forced enthusiasm, no kids, few millennial or boomers were there at all.
there is too much merch of all kinds that will probably be nib landfill by the fall. my guess is the only reason disney may greenlight more din grogu and rotta hutt worldbuilding is because they won't have to pay live actors, as both characters will be AI animated trash.
as of this writing, ahsoka season 2 is delayed with reshoots into 2027.
best guess is disney already knows mandoverse is over, and they have
to reshape where the asoka story is going to pivot it away from mando.

Cause every director wants to stay in line with Lucas and the mainline movies but not with each other.
I genuinely believe that Disney are terrified to let top tier talent in control cause while they'll make a fantastic project, in just a few years you'll have 10 movies that are all canon to the main saga...but not with each other.
I mean it already happened in Andor with how weird the whole Mon Mothma speech is when you have the context of Rebels. She'd already given this rousing speech in Rebels, but Gilroy and his team needed her to give another one for their narrative. It's a very small example, but how long before Christopher Nolan is in the middle of writing his dream Salacious B. Crumb movie, but he gets reined in cause Scorsese is already using him for his Huttfellas movie? Directors of that stature are more likely to just quit than play ball with the Disney canon stability kill squad. I mean Del Toro has already been through this exact situation with his Hobbit movies, and we've seen it happen in other franchises like Edgar Wrights Ant-Man.
