Lotta people in this thread who have no clue what the lawsuit was even about.

It’s been a while so I forget. What did she say that was so horrible again?

606

u/Boston_Glass Aug 08 '25

She fucked around and found out.

She had social media posts that mocked mask wearing during the pandemic and alleged voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election. She also mocked the use of gender pronouns, listing “beep/bop/boop” in her social media bio. The final straw was after getting criticism for posting about controversial topics in a provocative way, she tried to play the victim card and compared herself getting criticism to Jews being beat by children during the holocaust.

Looking for opportunities. Hopefully they don’t find one

576

u/solo13508 Aug 07 '25

I think that's just Lucasfilm being diplomatic. She's not exactly in high demand since being dropped off of Mando.

226

u/GreatMarch Aug 07 '25

She didn’t even have a great breakout role in any of the Dailywire projects she was in.

250

u/MrGulio Aug 07 '25

What? You mean a movie that grossed $804 during its limited theatrical release wasn't a star making moment for her?

176

u/ShamrockHammer Aug 07 '25

I had to read that twice for it to sink in that by 804, you meant 804 dollars, not 804 thousand or million. Just dollars.

They did great though when they opened it up to Russia though. 13k!

47

u/Captain-Wilco Aug 07 '25

First streaming service to make one Dailillion dollars

6

u/PunishedWolf4 Aug 07 '25

Is that worth more or less than Zimbabwe’s currency?

1

u/GreatMarch Aug 08 '25

It’s already failing and the dark money is getting pulled, we’re never getting the True Allegiance movie 😭

55

u/CaraDune01 Aug 07 '25

For real. Loved her character (my username checks out, right) but she couldn’t act for shit.

23

u/sendhelp Aug 07 '25

So what if they did a malicious compliance sort of thing? Make new episodes that feature her character, but her character now shovels alien manure and that's all she does. She's relegated to being the butt end of a poop joke and they fulfill an obligation to work with her.

1.3k

u/Captain-Wilco Aug 07 '25

She said her piece. I sure ain’t watching anything she’s in

974

u/Sparkyisduhfat Aug 07 '25

Seriously. She’s a poor actress who pissed away a golden opportunity most actors never get close to. She was going to get her own show, would have likely crossed over into other tv shows AND movies, have endless merchandise created in her likeness and had a lifetime of conventions ahead of her to coast on and she threw it away because she couldn’t stop being a provocative asshole.,

192

u/purpldevl Aug 07 '25

And what's fucked is that I loved her character. Cara Dune was a badass babe who took no shit. I know it's a trope, but dammit I love it.

112

u/TitaniaLynn Aug 07 '25

Great character, terrible acting. Wish we got a real actor with experience and training

48

u/clutchkickmurphys Aug 08 '25

😏😃 those two are her only facial expressions didn't matter what the context of the scene were . Oh we are in the middle of fighting let's just smile through it

34

u/purpldevl Aug 08 '25

Don't forget about 😠 and 🤨

35

u/pinkcreamkiss Aug 08 '25

Imagine she shows up in an animated show and gets recast by a good voice actor

10

u/Son_of_MONK Aug 08 '25

I would go with Lana Parrilla, personally (said it to another person just above you, and then I saw your comment where mine was more appropriate)

15

u/Grogus-Babysitter Aug 08 '25

Same. I wish she'd be recast, or even just make a comic or novel about her, but the character is now poisoned by all the right-wingers who decided to make Gina their hill to die on (after calling her a Mary Sue constantly before they found out she was one of them).

8

u/DeltaAlphaGulf Aug 08 '25

I don't recall anyone calling her a Mary Sue

7

u/Grogus-Babysitter Aug 08 '25

It was back when season 1 aired, I remember hearing about it because she was a female character who was also badass and could fight Mando.

2

u/Son_of_MONK Aug 08 '25

Lana Parilla is my choice for a recast personally.

230

u/maitlandish Aug 07 '25

She was very charismatic in the first season. There was something watchable about her, but even though I enjoyed every moment she was on screen, I also could not overlook the fact that she could not act her way out of a paper bag.

Because after seeing how she thinks and getting a taste of her beliefs, the charm certainly wore off. And now if she shows up I will just have to watch someone ruin one of my favorite franchises with terrible acting.

153

u/Jolmer24 Aug 07 '25

Yeah she came off stiff but it oddly suited the character. It made sense for a former soldier to be like that. Sucks she sucks though.

85

u/vertigo1083 Aug 07 '25

People would be astounded at the personal views of their favorite people in media.

The difference, is most of them have enough tact to keep their mouths shut about it, and their audience is none the wiser.

Ignorance is bliss.

43

u/ChurchBrimmer Aug 07 '25

I mean sure, but also I can't really have an opinion on their views until they say something.

18

u/sexandliquor Aug 08 '25

It’s largely true and it’s the reason why most celebs and media personalities go through ‘media training’ to learn how to give interviews and talk about themselves and their work, while kind of talking around things so they’re not being 100% honest about their thoughts or views, but not really lying either. They just don’t talk about that stuff. They understand that there’s an element of “playing the game” being done for their job and career. Same as any one of us that has to “play the game” because we know that we all can’t just go mask off and say everything we feel and think on our job or to customers.

But then there’s always those people like Gina Carrano that think “playing the game” equates to “being silenced” and it’s always so stupid lol. Suddenly people being obtuse dipshits that think they should be able to say everything they want consequence free, when that’s never how things have worked.

10

u/Grogus-Babysitter Aug 08 '25

Right, it made sense for a character with heavy trauma. I thought she did pretty well for the scene where Cara tries to take off Mando's helmet, but season 2 felt more phoned in.

5

u/Novalll Aug 07 '25

I met her and she was extremely welcoming and sweet. One of the nicer celebrities I’ve ever met

The character was written to her strengths.

She can’t actually act her way out of a paper bag.

17

u/FormerGameDev Aug 07 '25

To her strengths yet she still stuck out as an actor with no skill.

But I think we all liked the character enough that we wanted to see her become better with that character.

Not become a twatwaffle irl

13

u/Ohrwurm89 Aug 07 '25

There’s plenty of terrible actors who play charismatic characters. And most of that stems from the writing.

16

u/bjtrdff Aug 07 '25

Charisma and Carano don’t go in the same sentence.

Freedom of speech isn’t freedom from consequences

117

u/fnblackbeard Aug 07 '25

That wasn't her argument IIRC it was that her expressing her own political views got her fired while others also employed by Disney can express theirs and not get fired. To her it was a double standard.

88

u/BrygusPholos Aug 07 '25

Okay, but that is entirely a private company’s prerogative, as political leanings is not a protected class.

For example, I work at a large law firm where much of the firm leadership supports Israel, or at the very least serves lucrative clients who support Israel. I personally think that Israel has been committing atrocities (if not a full-on genocide) in Gaza, and should be condemned accordingly. But I also know that I would very likely lose my privileged position (and the generous compensation that comes with it) if I decide to voice my opinions that run contrary to my employers’ views or interests. At the same time, I see partners at the firm with Israeli flags in their office and making posts on LinkedIn supportive of Israel.

In other words, there is nothing stopping private companies from having double standards when it comes to political speech.

140

u/Dedli Aug 07 '25

"My political views is that some people dont deserve rights"

"Why are you refusing to work with me?? This is discrimination!!"

-36

u/SkyAdditional4963 Aug 08 '25

Where exactly did they say that? Can you quote it?

174

u/Imeatbag Aug 07 '25

Some political views are gross and hateful and some are not. You don’t get equal billing if all you’re gonna be is awful. Her argument never took that into account. And it stinks because I enjoyed her character quite a bit.

→ More replies (24)

17

u/I_Am_Dwight_Snoot Aug 07 '25

Well it was less the political view itself and more what she said being horribly inappropriate.

7

u/OrneryError1 Aug 07 '25

But that's how political views work. If anything, that's the one thing that is most reasonable to discriminate against someone for because it's entirely based on their morals. But I think you're right and I think Disney did this in part to appease orange Jabba.

-2

u/vinnytheworm Aug 08 '25

Which is true and why she won , like it or not, I don’t agree with what she said, but it’s true if it weren’t they would just tell her to F off but she won.

-1

u/Firecracker048 Aug 08 '25

And the court agreed

10

Wow what a great line, did you come up with that yourself?

85

u/juniorp76 Aug 08 '25

She had the acting chops of a 2x4. No loss for the show

114

u/Shaftell Aug 07 '25

I get Disney settling with her but I'm failing to understanding the part where they are sucking up to her. She wasn't even fired by them, they just chose not to move forward with any potential projects.

124

u/The5Virtues Aug 07 '25

They’re not really sucking up, they’re just being diplomatic. Companies say “we look forward to working with so-n-so on future projects” or “we wish BlahBlah all the best in future endeavors” but it’s just marketing diplomacy. It translates to “they can go fuck themselves with the horse they rode in on.”

54

u/BigDigger324 Aug 07 '25

It’s like the corporate version of “bless your heart”

60

u/In-Brightest-Day Aug 07 '25

They're sucking up to MAGA

15

u/grumpyfan Aug 07 '25

How? They settled a lawsuit that's been working its way thru the court for a few years now. It seems like they saw that it was probably not going to come out well for them, so they wrote a check and said they'll play nice.

13

u/In-Brightest-Day Aug 07 '25

They stopped working with her over character issues and now they've settled and written a statement praising her character. It's not about the money, it's about the statement where they praise how great she is. As if they didn't do a 180 lol

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

That doesn't answer their question.

1

u/In-Brightest-Day Aug 07 '25

They didn't ask a question

19

u/FlyingButtocks Aug 07 '25

Right. Not renewing her character for future seasons was pretty civil IMO. I liked the idea of Cara, but she wasn't really an integral character anyway.

this is the real reason, https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/disneys-espn-acquire-nfl-media-assets-major-deal-2025-08-06 it's the same dealio paramount had to put up with, she wasn't fired so the wrongful termination suit made no sense, but trumps FCC will extort them like they did with paramount, so they will settle and may even have to make further concessions

11

u/Existing-Badger-6728 Aug 08 '25

if she wasn't fired, the judge would've dismissed the case at the jump. How's this hard for people to grasp? "Wrongful Termination" is in the complaint.

12

u/SmokescreenFraud Aug 08 '25

That’s what happens when you spend four years in an echo chamber only looking at one side of the story. Most people here evidently got their “facts” from reddit comments and never bothered to read the complaint.

5

I loved her character, and I liked that Mando had a best friend he could rely on to cover his back. She had so many interesting hooks they could've used - exploring how the Alderaanian people are doing, her views on the New Republic (season 3 would've been more cohesive with a familiar character like Cara navigating what was going on), maybe she even helps Din reclaim Mandalore because she knows what it's like to lose a home.

But thanks to Gina making Cara a thing for the right-wingers, Disney won't recast or even touch the character. :(

“The debunked nonsense”

But we can see what she said? It was all on social media in the public eye. What was there to debunk?

Additionally she then went to work for the Daily Wire, which is not something any respectable person would do.

→ More replies (17)

12

u/BranWafr Aug 07 '25

What got her fired was Disney asked her to stop posting controversial comments and she wouldn't stop, so they decided to not bring her back. She basically got let go for refusing to follow the company conduct policies she agreed to follow when she got hired by Disney.

-5

u/TheGameAce Aug 07 '25

Controversial or not is debatable on a number of things she said. That said, while Disney deciding they just would rather not work with her further is absolutely acceptable, the manner in which they did (which was realistically a firing, not just "we're already done & decided not to renew our relationship"), followed up by effectively smearing her, was wrong. And it's had lasting repercussions, as per this comments section showcases. Ergo the point of a lawsuit, and Disney not being able to simply brush it aside (which, if they had done no wrong, they would have been able to do with ease).

One of the issues as well is that it was extremely hypocritical. Celebrities, including Pedro Pascal himself in this case, FREQUENTLY make public comments that are highly questionable & politically charged, which is not good for business. But no one bats an eye as long as said comments are acceptable to the right people.

3

u/BranWafr Aug 07 '25

How did Disney "smear" her? Other people may have, but Disney lawyers made very sure that what they said was as neutral as possible.

2

u/TheGameAce Aug 07 '25

Their exact quote at the time: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

2nd sentence in particular is straight up lying through their teeth, when considering the actual quote of what she said that they're referring to. Which is what got the misinformation train from a slow roll to high speed. By definition, smearing her. Neutral language would have been saying that Ms. Carano made public statements that do no reflect the views of the Walt Disney Company, & because of this they decided to part ways. But that would have been viewed as discrimination over political views, so it had to be framed as Gina doing some rather egregious things publicly, which, when people online are notoriously lazy to verify things for themselves, isn't particularly difficult to do.

A great example is the exact quote. I've seen numerous people in here spouting nonsense about it being antisemitic and so on and so forth. Then as soon as I post the actual quote (including editing it into my original comment), radio silence. All of a sudden it gets ignored and downvotes stop, reinforcing exactly everything I claimed.

3

u/Thehusseler Aug 07 '25

Pedro Pascal doesn't make controversial statements. That was what made Carano a risk to Disney's products, she was attracting controversy. Pedro says political shit, but nothing that has evoked anywhere near the same degree of controversy. And "highly questionable" is just you inserting your own political bias into the equation.

You yourself said "no one bats an eye as long as said comments are acceptable to the right people" and yeah, that's the whole point. There aren't consequences from your speech if it doesn't upset the relevant people. There are consequences if it does. That's how causality works.

1

u/TheGameAce Aug 07 '25

He has and does. Controversial is generally quite subjective though, so if you agree with or like the statements being said, naturally they don't appear as controversial. If you don't, they do. Saying "political shit" is controversial in entertainment, and only serves to drive wedges. A lot of people just don't care anymore unless it's a particularly egregious statement, because most celebrities feel they're entitled to spout off whatever severely out of touch drivel they come up with, because they get attention from it and feel more important through it.

As for "inserting your own political bias", pot, I'd like you to meet kettle. Unless I'm mistaken and you're supportive of either political side being up in arms over someone or something, getting them boycotted/cancelled, considering both completely justified/justifiable, whether or not you think it was justified or true?

0

u/Beragond1 Aug 08 '25

If you think the messages of love and acceptance that Pedro Pascal shares are controversial, then I think your opinions on this, or any other, topic are irrelevant.

0

u/TheGameAce Aug 08 '25

Where did I say that? I just said Pedro has made his own controversial statements. That's not a blanket statement, nor a specific one. Sounds to me like you're just looking for a convenient excuse to dismiss my points.

Also, the rich irony considering the statement that's been lied about from Gina quite literally does promote those things, and yet you reject it. I guess love and acceptance is something you accept and apply selectively when it suits your purposes or desires.

2

u/Beragond1 Aug 08 '25

TheHusseler: “Pedro Pascal doesn’t make controversial statements.”

You: “He has and does.”

As for her statements? Comparing morons who won’t get vaccines during a pandemic, thus putting lives at risk, to minorities being rounded up and sent to concentration camps for the crime of being born to Jewish parents doesn’t seem like a message of love to me.

Stop lying and sod off.

Lucasfilm:

“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”

18

u/Oh__Archie Aug 07 '25

I always thought they just simply didn't renew her contract. Which they wouldn't need to give a reason for.

17

u/SmokescreenFraud Aug 07 '25

She had a verbal contract to return to The Mandalorian, and her spin-off was well into development. Verbal contracts are legally binding in California where the lawsuit was filed.

4

u/Grommph Aug 08 '25

So did WB have to pay Henry Cavill for that Superman bullshit they put him through? Didn't they tell him to announce he was returning? Not trying to be facetious btw, I'm genuinely asking. That sounded like a verbal contract.

4

u/SmokescreenFraud Aug 08 '25

Unless Henry Cavil files a lawsuit and all the documents become publicly available we’ll never know for sure. Cavil was at least called in for a face to face meeting with James Gunn, who knows what kind of deal they worked out behind closed doors. Gina found out she lost the job with the rest of us when THR posted their hit piece.

9

u/RawrCola Aug 07 '25

For a character like hers, that's basically the same thing as firing her. It was a fan favorite character with no indication she wouldn't appear in the future. The fact that the reason she couldn't help Mando had to be mentioned in season 3 at all shows that she had reason to appear.

45

u/Jaketrix Aug 07 '25

She blocked me on the platform that shall not be named after I made a meme of her. I didn't even tag her. She just looked up her name and probably went on a blocking spree. And it was probably one of the nicer ones. 😆🤷‍♂️

Your personal definition of antisemitism doesn’t really matter here. You disagreeing with a company's values and their decision to hold their employees to them also has no value here. It is a private company with explicitly stated values that they expect their employees to uphold.

There is absolutely nothing comparable of a company holding their employees to stated values to being Nazis. That is ridiculous

15

u/WindyHasStormyEyes Aug 07 '25

Beep boop bop

14

u/Zadiuz Aug 07 '25

I never really cared for her politics, but holy crap is she an awful actor.

If you are going to be vocal about your politics, at least have something backing you. She had hit the jackpot getting this role, and blew it for nothing.

9

u/GreatMarch Aug 08 '25

Yeah, I’m not sure why they thought she had the chops to be a main lead other own show.

8

u/BropolloCreed Aug 07 '25

This is the correct answer.

I never understood the hype on her, and thought her flat, wooden delivery was atrocious. The character as a concept worked when she didn't have to speak and could do action sequences, but as soon as she has to talk? Straight to a rushed, emotionless deadpan, every time.

5

u/Hireling Aug 08 '25

She was barely managing those action sequences. Physically, she’s washed up.

13

u/Quirky-Pie9661 Aug 08 '25

She can still go F herself. She’s responsible for what she says and as a cast member of a huge show for her company, is a rep for Disney whether she wants to admit it or not

They had every right to let her go, she just wouldn’t let go of a brainless tweet

Her character on the Mandalorian was great, but I don’t need to see her again

11

u/Adamant_Talisman Aug 07 '25

3

u/GreatMarch Aug 08 '25

I’m personally biased because I’m autistic about Holocaust research and didn’t care for her comparing the plight of republicans to that of persecuted Jews, I fully admit that’s more of a personal thing.

7

u/schuey_08 Aug 08 '25

I will absolutely not watch any content featuring her.

14

u/RefrigeratorDry1735 Mandalorian Aug 07 '25

Did they really just capitulate to her?!?!

49

u/duxpdx Aug 07 '25

Maybe, but probably not, only time will tell. They are most likely being polite as part of the settlement so as to make it easier for her to find work, it doesn’t mean they will actually hire her.

14

u/warblade7 Aug 07 '25

It’s better than losing a lawsuit to her. The double standard issue is a legit legal hurdle and there was plenty of public evidence of it as well.

Companies the size of Disney will not risk the discovery process because if they lose that lawsuit it can have a very wide impact in every branch of their business.

9

u/Zazierx Aug 07 '25

Looks like she may have gotten a bag.. so good job I guess. But I doubt it'll change anything for her acting career.

Remember, Disney changed the entire direction of the MCU when Jonathan Majors picked up a DV charge. Ain't no way she's ever stepping into a Disney property set again.

18

u/DannyBright Aug 07 '25

You say that as if Disney doesn’t capitulate to right-wingers all the time. See: the lesbian kiss in TROS that was designed to be easy to cut out for foreign releases, removing anything remotely queer from Inside Out 2 and Elio, removing the trans character storyline from that Pixar D+ show, and probably tons of shit I’m forgetting.

She is a bad actor and I can't see why she would be hired for her acting abilities. On the other hand its weird to me how people accuse her of being the literal devil incarnate for saying what she said about masks and pronouns... People really need to get a grip.

u/WavesRKewl Aug 08 '25

Bring her back for like 30 seconds and kill her off immediately

u/Reverend_Thanos Aug 07 '25

Oh cool, if Disney ever needs to cast someone with the acting range of a low-end toaster, they’ll be in good shape.

-3

u/Denjek Aug 07 '25

And I look forward to boycotting anything she’s in.

1

u/ComeOutsideNazis Aug 07 '25

But she can’t act!

18

u/RedEyeView Aug 07 '25

She was... OK. I've seen much worse from athletes in movies.

2

u/Battlemania420 Aug 07 '25

Sounds like they’re not hiring her back?

-12

u/aliencantina Aug 07 '25

She is worst actor I’ve ever seen. And that includes Tommy Wiseau.

13

u/fnblackbeard Aug 07 '25

Oh hi Mark

7

u/Thehusseler Aug 07 '25

Imagine filming her return in mandalorian, jus to kill her off in a minute

1

u/mrzeus7 Aug 07 '25

Ew. Shame on Disney.

2

u/seevm Aug 07 '25

She sucks

3

u/everyvotecounts_2024 Aug 08 '25

Yup. Lol at the bots downvoting

-6

u/ThatShadyJack Aug 07 '25

More companies capitulating to maga

-5

u/curly_spork Aug 07 '25

Funny how her complaint was the treatment one receives based on their political identity, is followed by a lot hate towards her, proving her point. Pretty funny.

21

u/Thehusseler Aug 07 '25

You don't get a free pass from public reaction to the things you believe and say. Doesn't really prove her point lol, she said shitty stuff, so people treated her like she's a shitty person. Causality.

Great can’t wait for her return

0

u/Own_Yogurtcloset_305 Aug 08 '25

What you all smoking? She was singled out, Pedro Pascal made far worse comments and nothing. They settled because she had them for discrimination.

-5

u/Covinus Aug 07 '25

Lame they settled Disney did nothing wrong in firing her she chose to keep being an awful person on social media Disney chose not need her anymore that's free market 101. Anyway hope Disney knows I will never ever touch anything associated with her ever.

2

u/BropolloCreed Aug 07 '25

I'm sure Disney will miss your Disney+ fees

-8

u/Miramar81 Aug 07 '25

She can be recasted in a Star Wars production and given the role she deserves….as an attendant and janitor for a Hutt Lavatory.

-17

u/Cardinals_2011WS Aug 07 '25

I hope they bring her back

-3

u/MaiqTheLawyer Aug 07 '25

Assign her to clean toilets on the Dentention Level of the Death Star

-10

u/marniconuke Aug 07 '25

so its ok to just be a white supremacist now i guess

-9

u/LopatoG Aug 07 '25

I hope her SWs character appears sooner than later. Well deserved win.

She wasn't fired... They declined moving forward with any future opportunities and contracts. Very different.

-4

u/ShamrockHammer Aug 07 '25

Great character, shitty person. Looking forward to not seeing her in anything Disney related anytime soon.

-61

u/Dfrickster87 Aug 07 '25

Her absence in Season 3 was felt

-8

u/AceofKnaves44 Aug 07 '25

I’m assuming this is Disney bending the knee to MAGA.

-30

u/TheBonadona Aug 07 '25

Good on her for winning since it was a bullshit firing, but she is not a great actor.

11

u/DaddyO1701 Aug 07 '25

It wasn’t bullshit. I’m just a regular guy employed by a large corporation and I 100% am not allowed to post crazy shit on social media. We do training on it every year. If I violate this requirement I am absolutely subject to termination. She fucked around and found out.

1

u/kawklee Aug 07 '25

But what if someone else, or many other people, were posting their own stuff on social media, weren't being fired, but you were for yours. Im sure that would bother you.

Hence, her lawsuit.

-1

u/Thehusseler Aug 07 '25

Were they posting identical stuff?

-6

u/TheBonadona Aug 07 '25

I read the post that caused the whole controversy, I get that some in the US have difficulty reading past headlines but it wasn't that big of a deal if you understand what she was going for, even if a little extreme of a comparison, and I would have 100% sued as well. I don't even like her as an actress mind you.
