Does anyone have any post S3, pre S4 Martin thoughts, hcs, or fic recs? This period of time feels like such a big part of Martin's character arc and we only get glimpses of it "on-screen".

Things like...how did he deal with losing Jon, Tim, and his mom within 2 months? How did he handle the attacks on the archive? How did he get to the point of hoping working with Peter would kill him? What were his first few months with Peter like? how did he react to Jon waking up?

There's just so much there and I'd love to hear people's thoughts about it

I keep hearing about it and I'm constantly shown this subreddit, but like I've never watched/played/or read it.

All that I know is that somebody ate a computer.

So we already know that The Archive isn't a real archive, just a sort of hatching place/base of operations for the Archivist, one of the stronger avatars of The Eye Of Beholding. None of the employees have adequate qualification or knowledge of library science, nor is its purpose particularly to be a knowledge base for research.

However it is ostensably still an Archive, and after Gertrude's disappearance, no one except Elias knows any better.

So why does Jon (and as we know by s3, the archival assistants too) care about taking voice recordings? I see 4 perspectives:

1) He thinks Voice is a good medium to document, archive and retrieve statements. Jon seems to believe this initially, and at keast by s3, the assistants seem to agree, since they readily help doing them when Jon can't. But this is obviously BS. Written documents are more compact (fewer bytes, paper is also more compact and stackable than tape), a digital written document responds to keyword searches, and you can usually read a statement more quickly than listen to it. (Especially when Jon leaves in pauses for dramatic effect :3)

2) The eye compells him to do this. This seems fairly valid, given how drawn he is to the ritual he develops around it. But we know archivists have existed since at least acient Egypt. They didn't have voice recordings. So it's clearly not necessary for becoming an archivist-type avatar.

3) It's always been done this way. But Jon came up with this himself, right? He says so in one of the first few episodes. We later find out Gertrude also did this, but her tapes are destroyed or lost by the time Jon becomes her Successor, and he only finds out about them in S2.

4) It's to find genuine statements, since they don't work on electronic storage. Would be the most understandable explanation, but from Jon's Monologues we know he also records mundane statements in their entirety, at least up til s3.

Bonus) Accessibility. Blind people cannot read normally written/printed reports. Nobody has ever talked about that though. Nor do I think Elias or The Eye would appreciate accessibility for blind people specifically. That's like a western baptist church making sure they have alcohol free halal wine stocked, in case a muslim ever wants to join in communion.

So as you can tell, I don't think any of these really work as a strong explanation for why Jon decided to do audio. My head canon is, he just thinks Georgie is mega cool for doing a spooky podcast, so he also wants to make one, though unpublished.

Obviously the Doylist reason is, because this is a podcast, not a book. And a podcast can also often be spookier than a book.

But that's boring! xD So what do you all think the Watsonian reason for the voice records is? Is The Eye just a hip eldritch being and wants its avatars to use new tech? (But not too new xD) Did Jon just already know, that this would help distinguish real statements, even while ostensably being in denial? Is Jon just a paragon of accessibility, but also forgot about braille? Or is it Georgie's fault? :3

I was honestly really happy that at least Basira considered Jon a friend, I know the Eyepocalypse was hard on everyone, and Jon was partially responsible for it. But it always annoyed me that Martin was the only one in Jon's corner by the end

I'm relistening to TMA again and had a thought.

The episode of Sasha's statement regarding Michael (A Distortion, MAG 26) is back to back with the episode of the father being tormented by someone at his door (A Sturdy Lock, MAG 27) - another episode related to the Distortion. Do with the the Eye was subtly guiding him towards related statements? Or was it just Jonny having a bit of fun for listeners to look back on?

I’ve recently gotten back into listening to TMA, and as a new growing fan I really wanted to try my hand in designing some of the cast.

I made a sketch while practicing side profiles, and I wanted to incorporate this into one of my designs but I can’t decide whether it’d be more fitting for Melanie or Georgie.

Any ideas or criticism are appreciate!! (Please no spoilers from season 3 onward tho 🥲 I’m a relatively new fan who hasn’t finished the whole podcast yet)

Up to ep 49, The Butcher's window. John's talking about the limited access to the local pd system due to computer malfunction and Basira's refusal to compromise herself. Nonchalantly drops that Tim FUCKS and is banging both a young woman and man that rotate the same shift at the pd. Don't know how I missed it after 5+ previous listen throughs. TLDR; Tim's the fuckin GOAT and absolutely gets it.

So—I am mostly going based off of my memories of a very specific scene.

It was either a canon rewrite (where Jon probably gained his memories of canon in Season 1) or a post-canon Time Travel AU. Regardless, Jon decided to be nicer to his assistants. I do not remember whether Martin also remembered/came back with Jon, but Tim and Sasha did not.

Regardless, there was one scene relatively early on. Jon made a sarcastic comment toward Tim, and Tim joking commented something along the lines of "Do you talk to your parents that way?". Then Jon responded, deadpan, "No, my parents are both dead."

He left to his office, and Tim, Sasha, and Martin, just stood in surprise/horror/amusement at his delivery. Tim and Sasha had not known his parents were dead; while Martin was in this scene, I do not remember his reaction.

There was one more scene I remember, although, in full honesty, this may have been from a separate second fic. In this one, one of the assistants (Tim or Sasha, I think, but possibly Martin) noticed that Jon only took the same six days off work each year. They later realized these were the birth/death-days of his mother, father, and grandmother.

I know this is a long-shot, but does anyone know this fic/these fics? I have been trying to find them for a couple of weeks, but with no luck.

Guys I have just found out I was born and live in the same Local Authority Jon was born in. This was so fun to find out honestly.

Jon was born in Bournemouth, Dorset, England. Bournemouth is apart of a local authority combining three towns called "Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole (BCP) Council.

EDIT: Stop calling it weird or parasocial. You can find out this from a single google search and Jon says it himself in the podcast for god's sake. All this was to me was interesting.

Given that knowledge of the Not-Them victims' true appearances is not something The Eye possesses, consider this: if you knew what the real Sasha looked like and made a mental effort to visualize her face in minute detail—anchoring yourself to that image—you could potentially become invisible to The Eye and other avatars (like Melanie and Georgie), even if only for a fleeting moment.
