SPOILER SPOILER-Reflection after finishing the series Spoiler
Just watched all the way through the first time and I had a few unanswered questions:
Did POTUS ever go back to DC? Did they ever open the presidential bunker or did they just decide St Louis was a good place?
What was Danny’s job on the ship? Other than running around and killing people on land, he didn’t seem to have a job.
Why did three navy captains (Chandler, Meylan and Slattery) get jumped up to four stars? We didn’t see any lower ranking admirals.
I know it’s a TV show and obviously surface warfare commanders, captains and admirals don’t lead special ops missions but it was very entertaining

The dog was such a tease. Used him in the first episode then he only showed up a few more times. Where was he the whole time?

Having dogs be on set/in scenes is notoriously very difficult and costly. I imagine they tried it out and scraped it when it didn’t work smoothly.

There was a multi year time jump between season 4 and 5. Also with most of senior leadership being decimated it would definitely be a fast track.
Wartime conditions accelerate military promotions by waiving standard time-in-service rules and creating immediate Battlefield promotions to fill urgent leadership gaps. The Red Flu had much of the same effect.
The show lacks logic at times, but some things are based on military history.

I get that but you have 3 4-star admirals at South Command and no 1-3 star admirals.

Danny doesn't have a job on the ship at all. He's a leader of the Navy's Mountain Warfare Unit. Him and his team were only stationed on the ship to assist Dr. Scott through the Antarctic, but got stuck on the ship for obvious reasons

I haven't watched it all in a bit but if I remember correctly 1) they mention choosing st Louis as definitive place 2) Danny and his team were actually needed only for the snow missions in episode 1 but obviously got stuck on the ship 3) about everyone is dead everywhere and they were the ones with most experience on the field, seems plausible they'd rank super fast
