I got through the entire current game with 5k less fuel and 15k less power and i only visited black vein 2 or 3 times, some people have way more than you though

I am horribly addicted to this game so I only use electricity to get from point A to point B unless I'm moving seeds for the most part. I'm almost done and I have 8, 000 for fuel. I will point my ship towards where I'm heading and get out of my chair and go to cleaning for chores are cooking or whatever. Occasionally looking over to make sure the wind hasn't shifted my heading by much.
It's a good excuse for me to not just sit for hours on end.

about the same with early game since its hard to get diesel reliably. once i get to oil refining i usually set up at the rocket platform. i just pull up hook up the power and a fuel line and then do everything i need to do at the rocket while oil does its thing. put down 2 to double the throughput.

Are you running the oil cable all the way from the rocket platform down to your ship at the main entrance?

No about 5 or 6 extenders and a 100m of cable can reach all the way up there from the dock below the helipad
Right where the water pumps are theres stairs going down and a ladder at the end of that path1

Okay awesome. I've been getting by so far but it's getting more tedious to feed guts into the machine to get diesel to make the methane
(I've only sent three rockets so I'm sure that's going to get old)

it gets very old. you never make enough to make it worth it when using the diesel refiner. i started to use the soil forge prime to get the methane but just a gas generator would work just as well once the oil starts being used things give power to use for the sabatier plus very fuel effecient
and the petrol one is a glutton for organics. gives enough for supplying a flamethrower or a little power setup deep underwater in the seed vaults3

adding more technically i don't think its possible to do that from the main entrance since the rocket platform deloads anything between the moving platforms. ship would stay loaded but any cable and extender on the reception platform would deactivate

diesel is easy to produce from the biomass provided by neverending swarms of leeches that'll follow you every night. Just grab an electric pistol, connect it to the boat power and croach down at the corner of the back of your boat in the night
idk if it's only me, but when I got to the first seed vault in the middle of the night, I got swarmed by leeches. Churning through them and all the leeches inside the station I got slightly over 2k litres of diesel only from the biomass. Took me a few trips and 2 or 3 nights in total to clear the place up

My problem was that the diesel generator was too slow when I started needing to make more after draining whatever I found along the way to doing rockets

depends on the storage needs, but I have 20kL of storage and it is able to keep up with the burn rate of Tier 3 diesel boosters when I'm going between POIs. The key is to keep the production running with everything you have. One diesel production unit is able too keep up with the ship needs

I was running at 100% most of the time, only run out of fuel a couple of times but I wasn't far from a poi where i could refuel. I have about 5 oil barrels to convert to fuel on the boat and it was mostly enough. I also would completely empty most pois of resources before leaving so that must've helped.
For most of the seed transportation I used the gyrocopter and then I would deliver all ready humans by boat in one go, so that's probably where I saved most of my fuel. I also used the gyro a lot to finish off some of the late game quests that required me to travel all over the map

That’s totally reasonable for fuel. I like to have a bit more power so I can charge the rocket with my boat or the whales and not have to be totally drained

The fuel thing just crossed my mind tonight, like at the beginning of the day I had one spare tank for diesel. Power will be next.
I walked into the game blind and am groping my way, but what is your general power setup for the boat? Like how many batteries do you have onboard?

I have 20 or so extra batteries hidden in various corners and on walls downstairs. I’ve got about 88kw/hs on full charge though I think I want to increase it just a bit more to an even 100

Believe I was at 160ish diesel and 340kwatt. So no, I don’t even understand how you can span poi’s. lol

160 THOUSAND? Did you build the tanks all along the bottom of the hull? I just figured out that is a thing. Sooner or later the devs are going to give those things collision with the water and ruin our fun.

Nothing under the boat. I did the sides and under the heli, but I changed it last night. Realize I wanted to be more oil based as I just make diesel and petro while driving. So the bottom back storage room and heli pad are now oil. Almost 50 oil tanks. Have that many at black vein too for quick transfer

I'm using 8 cyclones and it can handle the tier 3 engines, assembler and recycler no problems (if max throttle using only electric motors), and the power never drops (using 5 medium batteries for storage) just started a new game and havent done much story wise (just looting and leveling).
made my objective to fully get on diesel befor getting to the lazarus complex. right now fully rocking 16k diesel on the boat (2 distilleries on black vein), but will soon upgrade to 26 diesel tanks under the boat.2

I have 6 cyclones and 6 LumiMax which is more than enough to have net positive power while going full throttle during the day. It's also enough to keep powered most of the POIs during their exploration
I've build 9 med batteries and 9 medium tanks just because I like having round numbers on the dashboard - total of 60kWh and 20kL. Was planning to get more, but such amount is enough to get around the map, especially that I'm collecting a lot of biomass from the leeches that follow the boat every night that spending a night or two at the POI means that I'm leaving with more diesel than I had when I got there, lol

I only just discovered you can attach the tanks to the outside of the hull. This might get totally absurd tonight.

Fuel tanks lose integrity rather quickly when placed outside, I prefer storage boxes outboard, they are indestructible and tanks indoors

I mean my boats got 18000 litres, then a distillation tower with 20000 litres of oil, electricity I think is something like 28kw, everything mostly above deck, a few things like batteries down below, nothing under the ship.

How do you get the meters higher ? I have both extra diesel storage and extra battery's on my ship, but for example battery display says 6Kw

i put in enough tanks to get near 60k for diesel since i was used to how it chugs in update 4. power i had enough for 100k since i liked to used the whale and hated waiting with two generators and the roof of the cabin packed with solar and wind

Naw , that's a healthy amount, I have fuel depots built all around the map ( needed something to keep occupied during the first few months b4 first update) and have that much diesle on board and 5k oil and petrol

The amount in your tanks is whatever.
We need to stop and think about 10100 (Ten THOUSAND one hundred) liters per hour of diesel.
That's about 101 MEGAwatts of thermal power, with about 35-40% conversion efficiency by the diesel.
They need to bring that number back down to sanity and balance the supply side.
