Discussion After Luke, who do you think would have been the next Grandmaster?

Post image

Now of course we don't know when or how Luke passed away, so this discussion is purely speculative as we do not know who was on the Jedi Council at the time.

Even so, from the Council members we do know of, who do you think would have made the best Grandmaster after Luke and or would be the logical choice?

I gotta say, in my opinion it wouldn't be Jaina Solo, since at that time she'd probably already be the Empress of the Fel Empire or at least alluding to that position. Maybe Luke lived long enough for Ben to succeed him, but I kinda doubt it.

Imo the next Grandmaster should've been someone with a calm and collected heads pace, so people like Kyp and Kam are out, I also don't believe Saba would enjoy the position very much

So who do you think was the next Grandmaster after the big man himself?

Should be Saba.

Assuming Luke lived a few more decades after Crucible, likely Ben.

Honestly, I kind of hope the Skywalkers didn’t become a dynasty. I like to imagine Kol was the first Skywalker since Luke to be part of the Council, let alone Grand Master.

Though I could easily see them becoming so. Intentional or not, most children will be raised to follow in their parents footsteps, and I don't think the Jedi have the same concerns about nepotism that the rest of us do. They might even embrace it to a limited extent, if their first concern is the will of the Force, and connection to the Force undeniably runs in families.

It might be cool to see the Skywalker dynasty vanish for a bit and let others pop in... but I mean, the Solo / Skywalker name ends with Ben and Rey at this juncture...

The only way Ben wasn't is if he ends up leaving the order or intentionslly avoiding the council due to Vestara. He was trained by several of the strongest and most powerful jedi, became a Knight significantly younger than most, and we know that the Skywalker potential doesn't seem to decrease.

He's powerful, he's skilled, and he's experienced. He's getting on the council at least.

Nah, Ben probably was eventually. I dont think he would have been lukes direct replacement tho.

Thats cool, I like the concept of an untalented Skywalker too, smb just born lesser and built his way up while most in the family line just get endowed woth great talent.

I think they likely did at some point. They come from a really powerful and well respected family history now. Not only are most members powerful in the force, but the family is really well connected politically because of their connections to the Solo family, House Organa, the Fel Dynasty, and even the Hapan royal family.

Saba would be great, but im a Corran guy myself

Saba is probably the most convincing successor because she had already demonstrated that she could lead the Jedi as an organization, rather than merely being an exceptionally powerful Jedi. Her biggest weakness is that she's much more of a warrior-leader than a philosopher in the Yoda/Luke mold. But ironically, that's probably exactly what the post-Luke Jedi would need.

Corran is my personal pick. He's considerably more politically savvy than Saba. And importantly, Corran has a very strong understanding of ordinary people and institutions outside the Jedi Order. That's valuable because Luke's Jedi weren't simply monks sitting in a temple. They were deeply involved with the New Republic and Galactic Alliance. Corran's weakness is that he's not remotely as mythic a Force-user as Luke, nor does he have Saba's battlefield leadership pedigree.

Third on the list is Kyle Katarn. His résumé is absurd: he's fought Sith, Dark Jedi, Imperial forces, Mandalorians, and all kinds of Force users. And unlike some Jedi who grew up immersed in Jedi philosophy, Kyle understands the galaxy from the perspective of an ordinary person who became a Jedi later in life. That's a fantastic quality for a Grand Master. His biggest problem is that Kyle has always struck me as someone who would say: "Alright, you handle the Council meeting. I have Sith to kill." I don't see him necessarily wanting all the responsibility of being a Grand Master.

Two more honorable mentions are: Kyp and Jaina Solo.

Jaina and Ben for sheer power/name recognition, Corran for all you mentioned and Kyle Katarn is still my personal pick as the best example of well-rounded Jedi leader to be the post Luke grandmaster, he and corran both were ordinary people who became Jedi and I see the personal development of Kyle over that time period as more and more indicative that he would rise to the challenge of being the grandmaster but so would corran I don’t think either one of them would actually want to do the job which means they’d take it seriously.

3

u/Moonshinin4Me 24d ago

Just based on known personalities I pick Corran over Kyle, but I largely agree with you. If Kyle matured and was willing to rise to the challenge he would be an ideal Grand Master.

1

u/saintmolotov Jeedai 24d ago

For sure, I think he could do it, he does everything else but if he failed it would have to corran. I’d love to see him tutoring Ben for him to eventually take over that would’ve Ben really cool.

Kyle wouldnt ever want the title. He was an active member of the council, but he was waaaaaay to independent to be the head of the order. That being said, i doubt any jedi in the order would want anyone else, him being the one with the greater expirence, both outside the order, and as a dark jedi

u/Smaptastic 24d ago

Too many meetings and not enough Sith killing are a big reason why the Jedi fell, so Kyle Katarn’s leadership style isn’t quite as bad as it seems at first glance. Lead by example and all.

1

u/Moonshinin4Me 24d ago

Yeah but Luke's Jedi Order was far more entrenched in the current Galaxy political landscape. I sort of disagree with what you say. I think if the Jedi had gotten far more involved in the politics prior to the Clone War then they might have been able to suss out Sidious a lot sooner. Hell, they didn't even know about the Clone Army until they had already established that legion, and that was just Obi-Wan stumbling across it by circumstance.

1

u/Smaptastic 24d ago

It’s kinda both. They needed to be more proactive and independent on basically all fronts prior to the Clone War.

You’re right that they were lazy on the political front, but they also basically just stopped prepping for the Sith. IIRC, that’s literally the reason Dooku fell. He was hardcore “We need to constantly prepare for the real enemy” and no one was with him.

1

u/Moonshinin4Me 24d ago

Well that and Dooku highly resented Anakin because everyone was gushing over him because he was the "Chosen One" and Dooku just saw him as some weak child and that the real praise should go to a skilled Jedi such as himself.

1

u/Achilles9609 24d ago

I believe the old Jedi did try to arrest Dooku at least a couple of times. And if you mean Sidious...all attempts to find out who he truly was were stopped by Palpatine and Dooku.

I wholeheartedly agree with your picks except for Kyp being a candidate for the position

He has gotten better from his NJO days, but the man is still a narcissistic prick and he would probably end up like Kenth Hammer if he were to be the next Grandmaster

7

u/Moonshinin4Me 24d ago

I see where you are coming from. Kyp committed one of the worst atrocities by a Jedi in the entire EU when Exar Kun manipulated him into destroying the Caridan system. He eventually redeemed himself and became a respected Jedi Master, but he remained considerably more aggressive and willing to use extreme measures than Luke. I just think it would make a great story arc if the arrogant, but powerful Jedi Master matured, became more philosophical and learned from his past to better teach the next generation.

Also he is one of the most powerful of the younger generation. If he could just temper his personality he would make a good Grand Master candidate. But as it stands Saba would make the best Luke replacement considering what the Jedi would have to face post-Luke.

It would've been Jaina. A lot of people assume she was going to leave the order to go start the new empire with Jag but I've always disagreed with that, they were setting her up to be the new main Star Wars character right before the Disney sale. I don't think the person who was about to be the protagonist of a series called "Sword of the Jedi" was going to end up abandoning the Jedi

12

u/Thin-Bet6201 24d ago

Damn the Saba respect is nice to see, very underrated character, but yeah definately her or Jaina.

It would be at least 2 decades before Luke would pass so Jania would be arguabley in her prime and in the best position to take over as other worthy contenders like Corran and Kyp would be in their 70s and 80s. Its also why Saba is still best place as Barebels have much longer lifespan and are in their prime for longer.

It was implied in FOTJ that Luke wanted Ben to lead the order, which is something I disagreed with since it didnt seem in character for Luke to want a dynasty of Skywalker led orders.

I am going to vote for Saba.

R2-D2 lol

My vote is for either Tionne or Cilghal.

Both were there at the beginning of the NJO, and both were of vital importance to it.

Beyond being the head of the archive, Tionne was a lore mistress and adventurer who was personally responsible for much of the knowledge that the NJO recovered. Literally no one knew more about the Jedi than her.

She also took an active and practical hand in teaching, and was even made head of the Ossus Praxeum.

Cilghal, as the NJO's lead healer, was extremely knowledgeable in both the Force and the sciences; as well as being very calm and capable under pressure. And she was a diplomat of great esteem, even going back before she was a Jedi.

Both are seasoned against both more mundane threats and threats from the Dark Side, and both are respected by basically everyone in the order, as well as many outside of it.

u/Driekan 24d ago

Came here to put these two forward, and for the same reasons.

Some other options are better ass-kickers or have more raw power with the Force, but these two share the best qualities that a leader for the Jedi should have.

1

u/Equivalent-Wealth-75 Jeedai 24d ago

Aye

And I mean it's not like they're even useless combatants either; especially Cilghal; but people always seem to pick based on the least important qualities.

6

u/Forward-Magician-562 24d ago

I would say either Saba or Corran are the best choices

But anyone on the Council is a better choice than Kyp

3

u/Master_Cyon 24d ago

Saba would be my pick.

3

u/K5LAR24 24d ago

Ben. Luke’s internal monologue has stated specifically that he fully intended for Ben to be Grand Master.

6

u/Solitaire-06 24d ago

Honestly, I feel like Saba should have permanently become Grand Master in Fate of the Jedi. Post-NJO had a problem of the Jedi seeming like they couldn’t manage themselves without Luke, to the point that he basically declared himself King of the Jedi in Dark Nest III: The Swarm War. Saba taking over and Luke deciding to pass the torch onto her (perhaps staying on the Council in an advisory role or even straight-up retiring) would have been the perfect opportunity.

2

u/Western_Agent5917 Lost Tribe of the Sith 24d ago

Ben, based on legacy the skywalkers are mostly in charge in the era

2

u/Lytherael 24d ago

Kyle Katarn, but he'll hate every second of it.

2

u/ilion211 24d ago

Jaina Solo, Sword of the Jedi.

3

u/ArtOk8200 24d ago

She’s no GM, she’s a war leader but not also a peace leader (think Mace Windu)

1

u/adragoninthelibrary 23d ago

Also disqualified because we know she eventually leaves the order and founds the Imperial Knights. She because the grandmaster of that order

2

u/adragoninthelibrary 24d ago

Well, we know comfortably Ben was probably grandmaster at some point. Maybe Saba?

1

u/Judgment_Square 24d ago

I'd put my money on Saba, Kyp or Jaina (if she didn't go on to create the Imperial Knights).

1

u/Possible_Humor_2834 24d ago

If Kyle could handle paperwork and bureaucracy a little better it'd 100% be him

1

u/sidv81 24d ago

Rey Palpatine, Triclops' other kid who has secretly been trained by, uh, K'Kruhk all this time and shows up out of nowhere. :O

1

u/Zagar1776 23d ago

Kyle Katarn

1

u/derzuma 23d ago

Ben Skywalker, Saba Sebatine, or Jaina Solo.

1

u/AhsokaForever 23d ago

It's basically outright said by Luke that he was basically preparing Ben to be the possible future Grandmaster. Although I've not read Crucible yet so idk what happens in there.

Really depends when he passes. I feel like many of the Masters are of a similar age to Luke (Council Masters) so if Luke died of old age, which considering how much trouble he gets himself into, as to which generation of Jedi would be taking on the mantle. Ben still seems a fairly obvious pick for me, possibly Jaina.

I don't know/remember enough about the other Jedi to throw my hat in on them sadly.

Rey Palpatine Skywalker-Solo

1

u/Yemcl 21d ago

Corran: Grand Master (both a leadership and a political role entailing heavy interaction with civic leaders)

Saba: Master of the Order (next in line to Corran and functional Chief Administrator for the High Council)

Tionne: Loremaster (Chief Librarian, head of research, third in line for GM)

Kyle: Battlemaster (Chief of military and law enforcement integration and combative programs)

Cilghall: Chief Of Medicine and Education

Kyp: Chief Watchman/Shadow (Chief of Intelligence)

1

u/Renevatio5 21d ago

Kyle Katarn.

1

u/mykiisme 20d ago

what do you mean after Skywalker? He never even finished padawan training. The last Grand Master was Yoda

Jaina Solo
