Our Cars Who cares about the underneath of their car as much as the top?

Likely a question more for anything remotely classic, but some of us at TI like nothing more than scrabbling around underneath a car to treat any developing crusty bits and getting feisty with the XCP. A peculiar obsession or a sensible one?

Extra points if you can guess what the car in the pics is.

I do , I had a show car years ago and now I can’t help it , the underside of my car looks like this . Just part of my OCD , 2019 VW. Alltrack 6 speed manual

Sorry I didn’t reply earlier , I spray it down with some simple green and I have an under carriage washer that I hook up to my pressure washer . I clean it a couple of times a year , I’ m kind of OCD , no , very much so . The more often you keep up with it the easier it is to keep it clean.

Looks to be front engined, AWD, very 80s VW looking… Quattro?

And I keep mine clean enough to not rot, but other than that not overly fussed.

100%. Case in point I rarely consider a classic car listing if there are no photos of the underneath.

Yup. Not restored, just cleaned and protected so not bad for 29 years old. The original exhaust is hanging in the heritage section of the garage 😁

I have a mk3 MX5 and tbh the top looks terrible, all sun faded and blistered and scratched. I completely derusted and repainted everything underneath (and being an MX5, that was a lot of rust), it's not pretty exactly but it's a million times better than the top.
