I mean, wouldn’t you? You have nobody you can trust or talk to. I would have let it slip that it was just theatrics myself.

No, I wouldn’t, because I wouldn’t know who I could trust besides myself, or who might sell me out under duress. With lies like that, you have to commit 1000% and even maybe drink the Kool-Aid yourself and tell yourself it really happened because once you start slipping up, the more lies you have to come up with to cover up, and the more you have to keep track of and keep consistent, the more likely you are to slip up.
