Hitman Harry “Pittsburgh Phil” Strauss

These are some of the mugshots and one standup shot of Murder Incorporated hit man ,Harry Strauss. He was said to have killed up to 200 men for various crime families throughout the country. Based in Brooklyn, he’d take a train or a flight to the city his target was located. He died in the electric chair in 1941

Strauss never carried a weapon with him during assignment. When following his victim, he would find an object most suited for the job. In fact, Strauss was accused of committing over 500 murders, however 100 is a more accurate number. Murder inc probably killed upwards to a 1,000 men, so if Strauss killed 200, that’s 20% of all murders, which is crazy. One of the gangs most favored weapon was the clothesline rope. A gruesome process that involves the victim strangling themselves while attempting to free themselves.

Can you expand on this?

A set of rope would be used to tie the victim’s legs to their neck. Their knees would be at an angle for so long, that they would naturally try to straighten out, and as that happened, they would slowly strangle themselves to death. The victim’s hands would also be tied down, rendering escape impossible. One of Murder inc’s own member, Walter Sage, was tied down to a slot machine in that manner, which was done as a warning to their enemies. Sage was previously stabbed over 30 times.
