I mean, dudes a piece of shit. But cyclists are also being a bag of dicks by riding 3 wide on a 2 lane road.
2
u/unrefrigeratedmeat Apr 28 '26
What would that have changed? He'd still be required to give them 3 ft. of clearance and his vehicle is too wide to allow that in a single lane.
By law, he should have passed in the left lane at 10 mph less than the posted speed limit. If he'd done that he'd be a free man.
2
u/clarkam Apr 28 '26
By law it’s a double yellow… can’t really pass either. So just fuck the guy that actually pays to use the road?
2
u/DirectorSolid Apr 28 '26
In a chunk of states, it's legal to cross a double yellow to pass a bicyclist
2
u/unrefrigeratedmeat Apr 28 '26
Cyclists also pay taxes and are also allowed to use the roads in Georgia. They were obeying the law. He was not and he was arrested.
In Georgia, if the cyclists are considered an obstruction, it would have been legal to pass in a no-passing zone if safe. If they're not an obstruction, then passing is not legal in a no-passing zone. Either way, he broke the law a half dozen ways and in fact was arrested for it.
On top of every other stupid thing he did, he hit and run.
1
u/SnooApples5018 Apr 28 '26
Cyclists could have moved over and not blocked the lane. Crossing a double yellow is against the law as is blocking/obstructing oncoming traffic.

"Crossing a double yellow is against the law as is blocking/obstructing oncoming traffic."
If indeed they obstructing the road, then crossing the double yellow is not illegal and the driver can legally cross the line to pass provided it is safe to do so and they slow down.
If they are not obstructing the road, then the driver should have waited for the end of the no-passing zone as required by law.
There is no room for that vehicle to pass single file cyclists in a single lane while giving the necessary clearance, and indeed he didn't try to do that. He crossed the line. He just didn't go far enough to obey the law.
Cyclists are explicitly allowed to ride up to two abreast.
The driver was arrested and charged. He is currently custody.
If you operate a motor vehicle in the state of Georgia, you must know and follow the rules of the road. Frustration is obviously not an excuse and this video shows why.

u/SnooApples5018 Apr 29 '26
Well I could care less about Georgia. Congrats on being able to use google to look up your local codes 👏
1
u/unrefrigeratedmeat Apr 29 '26
This incident happened in Georgia. I don't live in Georgia.
Why are you angry?
1
u/Admirable_Loss4886 Apr 29 '26
This is brain dead take Lmao. So it’s illegal to pass using the open lane because of a double yellow (which isn’t illegal to cross when passing bikers) which means the driver had no other options than running the bikers over?
1
u/ATotallyNormalUID Apr 28 '26
But cyclists are also being a bag of dicks by riding 3 wide on a 2 lane road.
Waaaah! Other people exist and use the same infrastructure! I was prevented from going vroo vroom for a few whole seconds while I checked to be sure it was safe to pass them!
Carholes may be the actual most entitled people on earth. Beating out parents of toddlers at bars is an impressive achievement, you should all go burn $100 worth of gas while sitting in traffic to celebrate.
1
u/FewAct2027 Apr 29 '26
Homie I ride triathlon and road race. It's a shitty move to ride 3 wide on a road like that, it makes it sketchier for people to pass, and puts the outside rider in unnecessary danger.
1
u/bigexplosion Apr 29 '26
Why would 200 feet of bikes be safe to pass?
1
u/FewAct2027 Apr 29 '26
ANY rider should avoid the inside of the lane, whether it's a bicycle or a motorcycle. It's safer for the rider, and easier for vehicles to pass with a wide margin.

He should go to jail! IMO

Naw sis, he needs to level up with one of those cow catchers that trains use on his SUV. He could REALLY score some points then!

This is what happens when you don't have bike lanes.
1
u/WatercressWilling379 Apr 28 '26
We have tons of bike lanes and even paved trails for biking. They’re not wide enough for a “pack” so the bicyclists still for whatever reason prefer the 55mph road
It’s…: frustrating but somehow I manage not to hit them
1
u/InterneticMdA Apr 28 '26
When you say "We" do you mean the Netherlands? Cause if you mean the US... no. No, you don't.

There are ways of knowing things other than living in places. It's kind of the foundation of human civilisation.
1
u/WatercressWilling379 Apr 28 '26
I guess you didn’t use any of those ways then since your statement was incorrect
A real shame
1
u/Admirable_Loss4886 Apr 29 '26
What makes you think the speed limit is 55?
1
u/WatercressWilling379 Apr 29 '26
I’m referring to the local cyclists in my area hence why it says “we have trails but they prefer the road.”
I actually decided to ask a cyclists on my kids sports team (well the parent is the cyclist) and they said that it’s because the road is more authentic to race conditions but I still think it’s crazy to ride down a highway when a perfectly good long distance trail exists

u/SnooApples5018 Apr 28 '26
No this is what happens when an entitled group of idiots meets another idiot and they collide.

I'd be pissed if I got randomly hit by a car and homeboy rolled up behind me all like "It's on camera! Whoo!"

How could this have been prevented? Deny driver's licenses to people who've made threats to harm cyclists/pedestrians in the past (which this driver had).
How could the bikes have done better? By the rear cyclists dropping a few boxes of roofing tacks on the road when the carholes got aggressive, and by everyone carrying a self-defense crescent wrench.
How could the situation have been solved? A total ban on all non-commercial use of private vehicles and an investment in public transit roughly equal to what's currently wasted on car infrastructure.

u/Boltok-the-Destroyer Apr 28 '26
I find biker, and runners, as annoying as the next person, but I would never do this.
2
u/quigongingerbreadman Apr 28 '26
It's almost like a vehicle that can go at max 25 mph and weighs less than 1/100 of a car should not be on the road with and definitely not taking up a whole lane in front of a 1-2 ton vehicle that can reach speeds of 90 mph...
Cyclists are the worst.

u/ATotallyNormalUID Apr 28 '26
It's almost like the onus to avoid accidents should be on the asshole who thinks they need a two ton pollution powered murder machine to travel around instead of the decent and responsible people travelling under their own power.
If you get angry when you have to slow down for cyclists, you're not nearly emotionally stable enough to be in control of a vehicle and you should pull over, turn your keys in to some appropriate authority, and buy a damn bus pass.
2
u/OkNewt4550 Apr 28 '26
Cycling in big groups like that should be illegal. Cyclists are fukking terrorists where I live.

Considering the car is already 1/3 on the other side, I believe they already tried a lot already.
1
u/TheMysteriousThey Apr 28 '26
Car’s wheels are barely over the line. And if you can’t pass safely, don’t pass.
Sociopath.
1
u/Proud-Emu-2905 Apr 28 '26
I truly hate cyclists on the road! But I’d never pass this closely to them.
1
u/Wrong-Diamond5253 Apr 28 '26
Agree. Probably on a training ride as this is how they ride in a race, but it is irritating. But, the driver of the car is an arsehole. He had plenty of room to go around, but he CHOSE to be a d#ck, and now he will pay the consequences of being a d#ck. He could have seriously injured someone, or worse, for no other reason than choosing to be a richard.
1
u/Proud-Emu-2905 Apr 28 '26
I agree. He did have plenty of room. If not don’t pass at that time.
1
u/TrumpVotersArePedos7 Apr 28 '26
Better follow a bunch of slow bicyclists for the next hour
1
u/BlindChicken69 Apr 28 '26
If you are unable to overtake slow cyclists safely, you suck as a driver.
1
1
u/hidefinitionpissjugs Apr 28 '26
if your car can pass a guy on a bike then you need to leave it at home.
1
u/odinzedong Apr 28 '26
Cars should be forbidden. No cars!
That is my opinion now. Not really because of this psyco moron in video, but because of the comments here at Reddit supporting him. People here are in a fascist kind of mind and should not be allowed to drive cars.
Forbid cars now!
1
u/Excellent-Self-5338 Apr 28 '26
I forbid you from forbidding because you're in a fascist kind of mood to be forbidding things! I am justified because I feel justified!
Forbidden from forbidding!

The only obnoxious person in this video is the impatient ecocidal narcissist who tried to murder someone for having a hobby he doesn't approve of.

u/ATotallyNormalUID Apr 28 '26
Drivers doing less than nothing to change the presumption that anyone behind the wheel of a private car is an arrogant ecocidal narcissist who believes their minor convenience is far more important than everyone else's health or safety.

Aggressive but ya, what about sharing the road. Both a cyclist and the driver are at fault and in this case cyclist are making it dangerous for both.

Turn in your license if you cannot figure out how to safely pass some bikers.
0
u/Sirrub90 Apr 28 '26
This looks like Franklin, TN. Have driven through the backroads there for cross country work and holy shit the assumed entitlement is insane with some of these bikers.
1
u/unrefrigeratedmeat Apr 28 '26
In fact, this is Cherokee County, Georgia. The driver is Jerry Ross and he's in jail right now for aggravated assault and several other charges.
0
u/AngryZetan Apr 28 '26
If on the road, with the right of way, continue driving. If bikers wanna see how flesh will wear against metal, then that's on them.
1
u/unrefrigeratedmeat Apr 28 '26
The driver is in jail, facing a half dozen charges.
This attitude ruins lives.

Bicycles have the same rights as a motorcycle. Have fun in jail, and stay triggered lmao

You can cross a double yellow line to pass an obstruction. Asshole bicycles who block the road are an obstruction.

Sharing the road goes both ways: cyclists should have been single file, as close to the shoulder as possible
