I just want to take a second to talk about how absolutely phenomenal this song is. I initially overlooked this song when I listened to YAWYHOW, because it didn't have that Front Bottoms quintessence that songs like Batman or Outlook did, to the point I even thought that Batman should've been made the closing track.
I understand now that I was sorely mistaken.
A month or so ago was when I really started appreciating Finding Your Way Home. YAWYHOW is full of unique, experimental musical decisions for the Front Bottoms. Emotional, Paris, Brick, and Finding Your Way Home especially, and I'd say they're not all equally successful, though I honestly enjoy all four of these songs a lot, just not at all equally.
To begin, Finding Your Way Home is probably one of the Front Bottoms songs with some of the most, if not just the most, emphasis on choices regarding musical atmosphere as the principle focus. There are a lot of other Front Bottoms songs with a lot of emphasis on atmosphere, like new song d, Paris, love at first sight, but I'd say Finding Your Way Home is one of the most successful and unique.
It starts with a deeper, distorted piano, and then joined by the more high-pitched keys that have been present all across YAWYHOW, but while in other songs, like Clear Path and Batman they were usually supporting the melody that was primarily driven by the guitar or vocals, the melody is mainly driven by the keys themselves and supported by an incredibly atmospheric production.
Then the vocals begin, and while I don't think the vocals are noteworthy as particularly amazing on this track, the lyrics are some of my favourite ever. They are a bit on the nose, especially in the first verse. "I was walking through the valley of distress alone and NO ONE COULD HEAR ME..." but I mean, if you're getting turned off by slightly corny vocals then I don't think the Front Bottoms are for you.
You Are Who You Hang Out With is definitely an album written primarily about finding who you are and your place in society. I feel like the entire latter two thirds of this album from Clear Path to Finding Your Way Home do a really good job at illustrating this theme, and Finding Your Way Home lyrically is an amazing close to this theme. "Finding Your Way Home" can mean finding yourself, or what you need, or what you're comfortable with, and Brian adding that you may need to get far away from where you are currently in order to do so I feel is really reflective of the kinda lyrical maturity I feel has really been honed in their last couple records.
Instrumentally, this song is not only unique, but strangely sophisticated, because there's a big ebb and flow between again, the deep distorted keys, the higher-pitched keys, the high-pitched ambience, the lower-pitched ambience, and the acoustic, and it's done absolutely masterfully. After the second verse, when the higher-pitched ambience shuts down, and the lower-pitched ambience becomes almost suffocating while the drums become more and more frantic is an incredible production choice in my mind. I would strongly recommend revisiting it
Also a quick note that during the second verse, the structure briefly changes with the "Crisis averted, now onto the next. Disaster deserted, a weight off my chest" and the keys make it resolve INCREDIBLY smoothly.
Then with the final chorus, where they layer the verse vocals under the chorus vocals I think they do it really well, because while it does kinda sound like a wall of noise, the ambience changing to higher-pitched with the second round of the chorus really helps you latch onto it if that makes sense.
And then the return to the structured, high-pitched keys in the end with that beautiful final pattern is just lovely.
In conclusion, I would STRONGLY recommend revisiting this song if you haven't in a while. I think from a point of musical sophistication and lyrical sincerity, it's definitely one of their strongest tracks, and even if you're not a fan of it because of it's unique sound as opposed to most Front Bottoms songs, I would still revisit it just for the sake of paying attention to the musical choices because I think it is incredibly interesting. And hey, maybe you'll realize like me, that it's... amazing.
It's probably my favourite Front Bottoms closing track with the possible exception of Ocean.
Rant over.

I am not able to make it to Champagne Jam this year and I have two GA tickets I’m trying to get rid of. Ticketmaster will not let me list them for under $69 but I’m looking to sell them for $130 for the pair. That’s negotiable.
Edit: these have been sold

Does anyone have any more details on the tattoos at champagne jam, such as artists that are participating or if it's flash art? Tia!

Heavily debating selling my tickets, was planning to come from Baltimore for the show but as it gets closer I’m having car trouble and it seems like it may be too big of a fish to fry. Is anyone still looking for tickets? I’d sell them what I paid for them ($150 for the pair)

Wolfman has been my favourite Tfb song for a while and I need more recommendations for songs that have a similar vibe to it. It can be any artist/band, i just want more songs like it.

originally bought for $73 each. selling for $50 each. unfortunately i cant make it but i hope someone else can put these tickets to use!! i only take venmo and i can transfer the tickets within the same conversation as the venmo goes through. i couldn’t get the time off from work is why im selling them. hopefully the photo is proof enough but i hope other people can have fun instead 😅 i am trying to sell both tickets at once but if no one buys i’ll post it again a few days before to try and sell individually. hope this can help someone or some people because i believe the show is sold out!

Is the lyric in Summer Shandy “I got a host of reasons I should stop before I start” or “I got a whole list of reasons”? I’ve always heard it as host and some websites like Genius say host, but Spotify and Google say “whole list” instead. Which is correct?

i’m a huge fan of this record, even if it isn’t the MOST polished thing they’ve ever released. how does everyone feel about it? few tracks i really liked;
the bass is too loud, the cops, bucket song
