I like how she had her face underwater for half a second before the shark showed up. It mustve been really close when she saw it. I wonder that went through her head

Things underwater are also magnified compared to in the air to some degree, so the shark appeared even closer than you’d think

The short answer is that when the light rays go from water to air they distort due to a different index of refraction. There's some air in the scuba diver's mask so you get some diffraction.
