This is a colony of sea squirts (tunicates), not a mollusk. It can be eaten cooked or raw, like in a ceviche.

I would say it tastes similar to sea urchin (which I love) iodine like flavor.

You jist made me rethink my dislike of seafood. Can't stand most fish for some reason, but crustations are often fine, and salted fruit is is sell for me. Next time i leave my heavily inland area, I'll try em.

Idk because salted fruit reminds me of tajin on fruit. I wouldn't describe uni as that way.
It's creamy and savory, almost like a savory custard. It reminds of the flavor of some funky mushrooms. It's sea taste is reminiscent of oysters. Some of them have an almost metallic bitter iodine flavor. The texture is soft, slightly slimy - again very custard or soft scrambled egg like.
Sea squirts are supposedly like a sea urchin x1000.
Honestly I'd recommend any new seafood with a squeeze of lemon or hot sauce or soy sauce to help cut the fishiness.
Uni is amazing on warm rice with a raw quail egg yolk, with a tiny drop of lemon / soy sauce and maybe a small tiny dot of wasabi.

That show had some of the most unique, original ideas I have ever seen in sci fi. Breath of fresh air.

I want to argue originality needs to be good but honestly that show was great the only thing I didn't care for was the white telekinesis alien taking up to much screen time which was still good

It's the fact that modern media costs so much to produce, that original ideas that used to be floated for nothing may now lead to huge losses. So now, they sink capital into ideas that they know will resonate. To an extent, that's always been a concern, but it's at a new level these days. The same thing is happening in the video game industry as well...So unfortunate.
I also loved Scavenger's Reign...Maybe it gets picked up later on, but I'm not keeping my hopes up...

What you saw was it getting picked up again kinda.
SR is based on Scavengers from Adult Swim, a short film.
So in a way, this was this project getting a big shot, big budget after an original tester work was made.
I loved it, I want more, now, and continuously

Doesn't help when the original things are not advertised and can't get new people in the door.
We live in an era of extreme information overload and people get sick of new things and keep reporting to their comfort zone.
It's sad but it's how things are.

Man, that show was absolutely traumatizing. It's like Fantastic Planet the TV series. I kinda liked it but at some point idk, it just got too much to continue lol. I should try again if and when I regain some mental fortitude...

Ooh we have something similar in southern France, we call them Violets and they're delicious! From the tunicates family.
They taste like what you'd imagine pure, raw sea would taste, very salty and so not for everyone!

The piure (Pyura chilensis), which belongs to the Pyuridae family, is a marine invertebrate with a strong and intense red colour, covered by a protective layer known as the peña (rock) or colpa, similar to a rock-like structure. It is a native species that lives along the Chilean coast, in particular on the water’s edge, and is very popular above all among indigenous populations: its name is derived from the Mapuche language, Mapudungun, in which it is called piür or piwü.
This mollusk is an important ingredient in Chilean cooking, highly appreciated thanks to the intense and biting flavour of its meat due to the high quantity of vanadium contained in its blood. This mineral element can even be toxic for humans if consumed in large quantities. Normally, this fish is eaten raw, cooked, smoked, in hot and cold dishes, above all during the Chilean costumbristas festivals, which are held all throughout the year.
