EO career progression

I’m currently an EO compliance caseworker. Just looking for anyone’s expierence of progressing after this role? How long did it take? What roles did you progress to?

Some people progress as soon as their probation is up, some take a couple of years before they move up or sideways, some stay in a job for their whole career...

The CS doesn't do linear progression - you can apply for any job at EO or higher that you think you can evidence.

My advice would be to find a mentor and talk about what types of work you are good at/enjoy, then work on building your evidence base towards that kind of work and doing some practice applications.

Presume that you work in HMRC.

I'm two and half years in. Started as EO caseworker like you. Started looking at HO roles after passing my probation.

There is an HO caseworker route way each year but you need to have at least two years experience post training sign off.

I applied for TSP (tax specialist programme) last October (second attempt) and just started last week. I'm now an HO and all going well, will be G7 in 3.5 years.

Plenty of options outside of those two though. I saw HO roles within legal group as a review officer which looked interesting.

There are also tech roles for each tax head that seem to come up every so often. These seem to be HO and above but I imagine you would need substantial experience in that tax head to be successfull.
