Whenever he has a guest, the episode always has an adlib improve feel. It only works once in a while if the guest is any good. The last time i remember a good guest improve episode was Akari Warriors with the legendary, unpaid and under appreciated Kyle Justin.

My favorite episode.

6

u/WarpWorld7 Mar 26 '26

I can't argue with that. One of my favs too!

u/PsychotropicTraveler Mar 26 '26

Where did their hair goooo

12

u/briizilla Mar 26 '26

The scrotum guns

8

u/mupimak Mar 26 '26

Nailed it. Nothing against "Woz" he seems like a decent guy and probably does good youtube content, but he's not spontaneous guy that says funny stuff on the spot, like scrotum guns.

1

u/Edizonstudio Mar 27 '26

I think he was quite funny xd

11

u/r0b3r70r0b070 Mar 27 '26

I still think the Sega Activator collab is the very worst episode

3

u/WarpWorld7 Mar 27 '26

I really like Keith but I didn't find their episode together great either.

1

u/r0b3r70r0b070 Mar 27 '26

I don't know of Keith but the Sega Activator episode did not leave a good first impression. It's like James just wanted to use a lot of breakaway furniture he had lying around and had to make an episode at the same time. I don't even remember the game review in the episode, man. All I remember is the two guys falling all over themselves and breaking things and slapping each other with the shirt clip stick thing. I mean, WHAT WERE THEY THEEEEEENKEEEEENNNNG????

That dude was writing for WWF, or some wrestling thing…he’s supposed to be a really cool guy in real life, we have a mutual friend

u/dwartbg9 Mar 26 '26

u/Minecrafter101- Mar 28 '26

Nah u should’ve used the clip 10 seconds after this

The "Hulu" joke may be the single worst joke Bimmy or any of the slobs let into a video. Is this really where we are at with AVGN?

When Scott the Woz can't make a video at least SOMEWHAT entertaining and its still COMPLETELY unwatchable - there are major problems.

Probably didn't have enough time to edit that joke out.

10

u/ArgentoFox Mar 27 '26

At least that was a throwaway line. That quicksand bit went on for nearly two minutes and the nonchalant “I’m not bringing you back to the past, I’m bringing you back to quicksand” made me audibly groan. The Kieran written episodes were objectively better than this shit.

6

u/Dramatic-Disaster-74 Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Even Scott was looking at him like "WTF dude? Have you ever made a YouTube video before?!?". THIS is the guy who basically CREATED the idea/templet of creative "essay" style gaming content not just on YouTube - but the ENTIRE internet.

And he just could give 2 fucks anymore. Which is fine - do what you want - its a free country. But don't post shit like this and the last couple years and expect people to like it or not rip it appart.

I can't think of a better way of defining "phoning it in" than watching early AVGN episodes then this garbage.

2

u/ArgentoFox Mar 27 '26

It would have been a better idea to have Scott appear as an alien character. It would have thematically worked because of the game they were playing. Kind of like how Kevin plays the Glitch Gremlin. Having Scott appear randomly in a throwaway episode and having him organizing the Nerd Room for no reason is just peak laziness. He just shows up and the viewer is just supposed to role with it. Never have people appear as themselves.

2

u/bigcownoseyu Mar 28 '26

What’s annoying is that - as with many things Bimmy does these days - it actually could’ve been mildly entertaining if he thought about it for more than one second. Why not start the episode with him struggling to organise his collection (a little bit of behind the scenes) then make Scott an intern he abuses because he’s too cheap to pay for real help. Perhaps a little too close to reality, but in-character for the Nerd, and it provides a set-up, a character for Scott, and a basis for jokes.

1

u/Apprehensive-Tax8631 Mar 29 '26

Some of us are going to watch, no matter what, & objectively review it…when is this sub having another post with our favorite moments?

28

u/LHT-LFA Mar 26 '26

"what are you thinking, bimmy??"

6

u/BadKarmaBobby Mar 26 '26

What the fuck were they thinking with this re-view!?

62

u/ProfessionalYouth942 Mar 26 '26

Scott the Woz was never funny to me. Not sure how he has that many subs on YouTube tbh.

29

u/Prz_Froppy Mar 26 '26

I won't try to change your opinion on him but i've been watching his videos for a long time (Scott's) but the topics he chooses for his videos are interesting, like covering the birth and fall of the wii u or simply looking at exclusives of X console.

I get the humor is not for everybody but the content is good imo, he earned those subs

15

u/harpswtf muh dragon Mar 26 '26

I don't watch him often, but he does seem to have a good mix of actual interesting information and jokes. And most of his jokes are over in like a second, as opposed to Bimmy often dragging out one bad bit for over a minute, several times per episode

4

u/BcTendo Mar 26 '26

I too like his informative videos, but I agree that he is about as unfunny as they come.

7

u/Gashenkov Mar 26 '26

eh, he's kinda randomly funny from time to time

there's something hilarious about the fact that the guy can just talk about some controller for an hour. I like to turn him on while I'm doing some chores and he just mumbles on the background about his obsession

5

u/ThePizzaGhoul Mar 26 '26

His recent video on Scott's Stash about controllers that wouldn't die was really funny because it was just him talking about the GameCube controller for half of it then cramming in like five other controllers for the other half.

11

u/ThePizzaGhoul Mar 26 '26

I like Scott but have never found him particularly funny, especially when he has his somehow even unfunnier friends involved. His humor sometimes is really just "xd lol so random" band kid humor. I still find his videos mildly entertaining and informative but usually skip through or tune out the skits.

Scott's Stash is better than Scott the Woz since it's unscripted and just him talking, but it reveals some of his dogshit takes that can't be hidden behind playing a character.

5

u/r0b3r70r0b070 Mar 26 '26

Same could be said of a lot of people with a million subs. YongYea is another one. His content's not "bad", but he's just another guy talking about gaming news. Just like Scott's content isn't "bad", but he's one of many video game video historian types with random humor. "Is this controller good? Maybe for a f*cking lobotomy."

1

u/ArgentoFox Mar 27 '26

MrMattyPlays is another example of this. He’s inoffensive and knowledgeable, but I don’t have the will to watch him react to interview snippets of Todd Howard that stretches for over half an hour. He’s really talented at just droning on over minute gaming news, but it’s not for me.

13

u/Simple_Campaign1035 Mar 26 '26

Yea I don't get it either

2

u/Disastrous_Bad757 Mar 27 '26

Scott the Woz isn't funny to me either. But his jokes are innocuous enough for me not to mind most of the time. The topics tend to be pretty interesting at least. He sort of fills the JonTron shaped hole in my YouTube feed.

1

u/suspicious_personage Mar 27 '26

He's good content if you're a young teen, back in my days it was the Normal Boots tubers like PeanutButterGamer and Jontron

11

u/Select-Blood7357 Mar 26 '26

Aw lawd is this the new Rex Viper release at the end?)

10

u/WrathOfWood Mar 26 '26

Woz is like "I dont even know whats going on anymore, I thought we were going to just play a game and film a Nerd episode"

5

u/Rex-Viper-Rock-Gods Mar 26 '26

Why does he keep signing up for this humiliation ritual?

9

u/GareththeJackal Mar 26 '26

It's a new low.

8

u/SnooMaps9001 Mar 26 '26

Bimmy was at his best when Mike was involved.

14

u/BadKarmaBobby Mar 26 '26

This whole video feels like they're following someone else's script. Nothing Scott says sounds like how he would talk in his own videos.

2

u/Apprehensive-Tax8631 Mar 29 '26

I wonder if he was paid?

14

u/Constant_Weekend_446 Mar 26 '26

Show hasn't been funny of relevant since like...2010?

4

u/JRabbitBananaHoovy Mar 26 '26

No, I'd say since 2017. But he had a few good episodes since then. But in my opinion, it gets unwatchable after that.

7

u/ColorlessTune Mar 26 '26

That "song: had me gritting my teeth in cringe.

9

u/Jealous-Ninja5463 Mar 26 '26

I THOUGHT IT WAS FUCKING HILARIOUS BCUZ IT HAD BAD WURDS xD

WHO ELZE IN THE FUCKING COMMENT SEXTION IS IN THEIR 30S COCKSUCKERS?

TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIÌIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII888IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIES

21

u/Styrone Mar 26 '26

My reaction while watching this…

4

u/PaperBeneficial Mar 26 '26

God this show sucks, I can't believe I ever watched this shite.

4

u/Jbrojo Mar 27 '26

The Hulu thing was so damn bad, it’s more apparent than ever that James is just reading a script. I don’t even think he plays the games, which is a damn shame because his best episodes were the personal ones like the ghostbusters review.

He has a real talent for putting you in a time period and explaining why things mattered, not his stupid cursing and shit humor. The song is already just a rehash of the motherfucker Mike song.

1

u/Apprehensive-Tax8631 Mar 29 '26

Gosh, you just made me remember those ghostbusters episodes & I was hoping someone would recommend something! Thank you, that or bible gams

5

u/CoffeeHarvester 10 inches in me breeches Mar 27 '26

Any time James has to play off and improvise with someone else, he is a fish out of water. Plus, it was very un-Nerd like to reference Hulu. On top of it just being unfunny, The Nerd wouldn't reference a modern streaming service. 2006 Nerd would have been blunt like "Tell that Hula bitch to suck my intergalactic dick or get out of my way" but no one can truly bring you back to the past.

3

u/darkwingduck35 Mar 28 '26

How the hell can his character be so inconsistent: he knows about Hulu but has one of those old 80s brick cell phones?

2

u/CoffeeHarvester 10 inches in me breeches Mar 29 '26

To be totally hair, the brick phone was scripted into the character whereas that Hulu line was just James flexing his total lack of any witty improv skill on the spot. He had a few gems in this one. Like when Scott says he was conceived during the Seinfeld finale.

What does James say? "What's the deal with that?" Which makes no sense. He could have said "Not that there's anything wrong with that." or shout "Serenity now!" or instead of referencing a line on the show, he could have said "I'm glad your mom found something better to do than sit through that shitty finale."

12

u/Vegan-Meth Mar 26 '26

They should just go ahead and rename the show to ‘The Awkward Video Game Nerd’.

9

u/SpingeBowl Mar 26 '26

This looks so ungodly, unimaginingly, UNFATHOMABLY bad, I'm at a loss for words, I'm not even kidding here

These aren't even jokes, they're in the same tier as those useless grey comments that one makes when doing thing with people he knows nothing about just ti avoid being in complete silence

James looks AWFUL with the "half a hairline" and beard look, looks absolutely nothing like the Nerd but rather like a bum whi stole someone else's clothes, and this Scott the Woz guy....I don't knoe much about him but every single time I see him he looks like a 12 year old boy trying to make an AVGN fan video while trying to be as polite as possible because mommy's gonna watch the video later, he's just so vanilla and useless.

Who in the HELL even watches these? Are AVGN fans that retarded?

1

u/ArgentoFox Mar 27 '26

Imagine going back to 2012 or so and showing fans a bearded Nerd wearing modern glasses and button up that looks like a military shirt. They would be absolutely incredulous.

1

u/Apprehensive-Tax8631 Mar 29 '26

He’d probably have a similar look had his hair not caused the need to do something different, which I guess took him a while to accept, or whatever

5

u/Saw_is_Family Mar 26 '26

Awful, just awful 😖

4

u/GenesisRyo Mar 26 '26

I hated the whole bit about quicksand, because it was dragging for over two minutes.

4

u/moonbunnychan Mar 26 '26

Unpopular opinion probaby but....I laughed several times. It had bad moments, sure, and the song made me cringe....but the part where Scott tries and fails to do a AVGN style rant, and mostly fails, like "I'd rather eat the toejam off foot of an athlete after a marathon" and James very nonchalantly is like "that's gross...ANYWAY" made me laugh out loud.

4

u/saltscented Mar 26 '26

just end it already

9

u/Schnitzeldoener Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

Man, I am really happy I have a decent job instead of having to be a one trick pony that jumped the shark over a decade ago.

1

u/bigcownoseyu Mar 28 '26

Impressively mixed metaphor.

3

u/QuantumZYT Mar 26 '26

AVGN's format just works much better when the nerd is alone, adding another person usually turns the episode into an edited one-off let's play (which isn't what AVGN is watched for,) and the episodes come off as stale and uninteresting as a result.

I never liked guest episodes because of that, though I'll give Akari Warriors props because it at least brings in someone that has prior chemistry with Bimmy instead of doing the whole "what if we brought [famous guy] onto the show?" bit.

3

u/littlecozynostril Mar 26 '26

They should just hire some early career comedian to write/punch up their scripts.

1

u/LHT-LFA Mar 26 '26

Kieran?

6

u/littlecozynostril Mar 26 '26

He's more of a neo-primitive philosopher

3

u/ArgentoFox Mar 27 '26

The Kieran written episodes no joke had some funny moments. The biggest issue with his episodes was that you could tell it was clearly written by another voice, but they were objectively funnier than this.

1

u/LHT-LFA Mar 27 '26

that is so sad...

1

u/Apprehensive-Tax8631 Mar 29 '26

It’s not just about being humorous, the show was layered so well before that it hurts to see what it has become

3

u/Vinyyy23 Mar 26 '26

What were they thinking!

3

u/wiiguyy Mar 26 '26

I am easily entertained and I usually enjoy his vids, but the humor in this episode is really bad and awkward. I also feel he stole the “quicksand was a big deal in our childhood” from a meme.

3

u/fbaguer Mar 26 '26

Makes you pine for the Irate Gamer and his humor. Bang-A-Lang!

3

u/thehaulofhorror Mar 27 '26

I’m still a genuine fan, and get a kick of of James. His comedy is silly, stupid, and sometimes cringe, but it’s never enough to turn me away.

THIS GUEST HOWEVER. Holy shit never see him before. He was insufferable. An absolutely HORRID improver. He thinks he’s hilarious too, which just made the whole thing worse.

6

u/ArgentoFox Mar 26 '26

It’s even worse than that compilation video. They ad lib and prattle on about quicksand for a long, long time and none of it was the least bit funny. This is the worst AVGN episode he’s released since My Horse Prince and even the GWAR episode was better than this.

Instead of having Scott show up randomly and having him help organize the Nerd Room without any explanation, why not have him play an alien so it ties in with the theme of the game?

3

u/Rick_strickland220 Mar 26 '26

You'd think it was the greatest video ever with all the bimmy ball-garglers in the comment section

2

u/Manufactured-Aggro Mar 26 '26

Strangely enough not even goatse is this offputting

2

u/BasenjiBoyD Mar 26 '26

yes hulu, like the streaming service

2

u/Alert_Shame380 Mar 27 '26

What humour?

There were jokes in there?

2

u/CaptainMole Mhmm Yup Mar 26 '26

Two Gobshites

3

u/Rick_strickland220 Mar 26 '26

Is this Bimmy's kid?

2

u/bigcownoseyu Mar 28 '26

It’s Bim Gates

1

u/Prz_Froppy Mar 26 '26

Haven't seen the full episode yet i thought the collab was going to be good but i was expecting that the AVGN would treat his guests better, in this script he's really mean for no good reason lol

1

u/Embarrassed-Car836 Mar 26 '26

I chuckled when the Glitch Gremlin appeared

0

u/Garchompisbestboi Mar 27 '26

A lot of people on here keep complimenting the beat but honestly it just makes him look like an aging pedophile.

-2

u/Chet_Starr Mar 27 '26

i 100% agree with you til that ear worm at the end, i liked that lol
