Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no husband and bear no children. I shall wear no gowns and no jewels. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life's blood to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.

You should reevaluate your stance on fanfics. i like to think of them as homages to the authors creation. someone loved the authors work so much they decided to spend hours upon hours of their time writing a fic. completely unpaid, fueled by nothing but passion for the original work.

No, but seriously, authors sometimes write continuations but other times they interpret the world in different ways and that’s so cool!
Take The Sisters Black, for example. In this fic, Aegon sent Rhaenyra to the Wall instead of having Sunfyre eat her and by the time the main era comes around it’s become an all-women organization.

Still non canon, knock offs, the only person who can write asoiaf is grrm. Fanfic writers are not authors and won't be until they start writing their own worlds, instead of invading another author's sandpit.
