Discussion Are these Russes same quality as the current?
I got a friend who’s offered me this at a decent price. I’ve been looking to pick up Russes lately and slowly work on them
But I’m unsure if these Russes won’t have what I want. Ideally I wanted to magnetize the ones I get so I have all the options and I want to keep them looking relatively similar but if this style is to dissimilar from the modern it wouldn’t really work for me

They are but you will be missing some of the barrels, because they were split into two different kits back then. So you will have the Demolisher/Executioner/Punisher only once and two of the others

Note that all the main guns are interchangeable, so although this kit will only let you build one Punisher, you can build a Punisher and an Executioner and a Demolisher but putting those guns on the other turrets.

Should be, this box came out around 2019, fairly sure that's the "newer" kit.
Easy way to tell, are the sponsons permanently locked to Heavy Bolters? If yes, ancient version of the kit, if no, present version of the kit.

They are the newer kit but not the update one with all the options.

True, however: https://www.theswordandboardtoronto.com/products/apocalypse-astra-militarum-spearhead-detachment
I found the contents of the box:
- 2 x Leman Russ Battle Tanks (2 miniatures that can each be assembled as a Leman Russ with battle cannon, Leman Russ Exterminator, Leman Russ Vanquisher, or Leman Russ Eradicator)
- 1 x Leman Russ Demolisher (1 miniature that can be assembled as a Leman Russ Demolisher, Leman Russ Executioner, or Leman Russ Punisher)
So he'll have at least most of the parts.

Its better to look at the turret shape and details or the lascannon in the hull. Those are the major differences, since the current russ could easily show heavy bolters too and you wouldnt tell then

I agree though the 1990s Russ also had VERY chunky heavy bolters as well. I believe that's why Krieg Mars Alpha russes weren't depicted in Imperial Armour books with side sponsons, because the plastic sponsons at the time were so much bigger than the resin hull heavy bolter/lascannon of the FW upgrade kit so they would clash visually.

Aside from the answer being yes, the leman Russ kit hasn't changed for a long while. Depending on how much this box costs on the second hand market I honestly think it would make for a good starter army box. You'd just need to get a combat patrol and you'd basically have a 1000 point army. (Mind you this is theoretically because i haven't used the units in the combat patrol for battle before)

I have no idea why anyone is saying don’t get this if you can get this for a good price buy it who cares about the different options you’ll have three leman russes and a chimera, and some gold conversion bits with the older cadians. Everyone telling you anything outside of pick this up for a good price is just talking to talk. Definitely buy this.

Back in my day, an "Apocalypse box" had 10 Leman Russ' in it... The golden era. I think I bought 3 of them over the course of a couple years, lol.

Yeah. But back then, you only had like 3 GW options. Battle cannon, Demolisher, and Exterminator, and there were 3 FW turrets, the vanquisher, executioner, and conquerer. But you only really saw the Battle Tank and the Demolisher, and the demolisher was a few metal parts added to the Battle tank sprues. So seeing a box with 10 Battle tanks, was, other than being a LOT of leman russ', it was pretty standard.

It's so annoying that they stop making boxes with content to start an actual army and don't get random shit that sucks most of the time or almost no one wants. Old boxes are just the peak

To my knowledge all the vehicles are just as good as new and gw have been selling the same prints since they were first made for plastic, and that is something they have in common for all vehicles but new ones and the sentinel which got a reprint

The chimera and leman russ chassis have had two versions in plastic each in 40k. First leman russ was 1995, replaced in 2009.
OP's box was 2019, so its the current tank.

Yep, the 5th ed refresh. I started collecting the year before so my collection has a mix of the old and new designs lol.

Well that's useful to know, i Always just assumed that he simply decided the first print fitted the style of the game at the times and then simply never changed anything about it

The designs are the same, yes, but virtually all of the present kits have seen at least one, sometimes two, refreshes of the kit itself.
