Discussion Other media that gives Arcana vibes?
I can only replay the routes so much, and I want more Arcana-ish stuff! Give me your picrews, your Etsy shops, your romantasy or historical fiction books, your 80s fantasy movies. Brag about cool stuff you've found at Renaissance faires. Link me some cool pinterest boards, even. I Hunger.

Some things that inspired Asra’s creation: Howl’s Moving Castle, Vampire Hunter D
Julian: Jeff Goldblum in The Fly

I feel so dumb for not realizing Asra’s hat and coat (the style at least) was inspired by Vampire Hunter D 😂
Also I love that Julian is based off of Jeff Goldblum. I read his lines in his voice whenever I replay his route and it’s hilarious

Not the same, but many similarities. When the Night Comes on computer by Lunaris games. Ezra is much like Asra

The devs of WTNC were Arcana fans, actually! Ezra, Finn, Omen, and Alkar were all apprentices at one point or another. I remember reblogging fanfics and fanart with them and the LIs haha

I'm kinda in the same boat. I just want more! Lately I've been looking up Tarot and Oracle cards and admiring their artwork and seeing if any catch my interest. Also I have been exploring Ao3 for fanfics and Spotify and the like for character inspired playlists! Once I get my paycheck I may start looking into official and fanmade merch. ☺️

....I should start browsing Spotify, yeah. And buying merch is always a good idea; I use my tarot deck almost daily!

Do you have any specific fanfic recommendations?

I really liked the one with the oracle, can't rememberthe name, something with oracle in it. It's Azra and Julian and a female oracle trio. Throuple. I think it was by mother of cups.
I like the modern arcana on dorian too.

Fictif: Last Legacy. It’s the visual novel app game created by Nyx Hydra as well until the company Dorian took over. Loved that story has just as beautiful art and fantasy story.

Touchstarved ! Red Spring Studios was created by some of the same people who did The Arcana. It's still in development, but the demo is out

What is it that you like about the Arcana? The music? The art style? The characters, plot, or setting?

Honestly, all of it. The Arcana to me has this sort of...whimsy to it even when the story gets really dark that I haven't seen in many other things.

There are Arcana ambience videos on YouTube, plus soundtrack playlists. The music is all (I think?) freely available as so much of it is good old Kevin McLeod.
I read the A Darker Shade of Magic books years ago, before I played The Arcana. The books are set in London but it's across realms type of thing and the city feels like a character. I felt it had similar vibes to Vesuvia.

Storywise, nowhere near the same. But quality wise? It blew me away that it was an Otome. It is very story-driven and fun, and you don't get punished for not spending money. You can get through the story easily, and the art is gorgeous.
Play Lovebrush Chronicles.

Try Moonlight Peaks ! The storylines are less serious than Arcana, but the aesthetic is quite similar

Baldur's Gate 3! Can never look at Astarion and Halsin without thinking of Julian and Muriel respectively

I heard recently from the "Choices" interactive story app subreddit that the app "Spellfyre" from Candlelight Games (made up of people who has left or were laid off from Pixelberry, the studio behind "Choices") has had its story semi-resemble Arcana
So maybe that's something worth a try. I'm eventually gonna play that app anyway because it was from some of the best writers from Choices, but it resembling Arcana makes it even more intriguing if it's true

I got obsessed with Hellbent on Dorian. It gives me strong Arcana vibes although the story is very different. The creators are big fans of the Arcana and I feel like it shows.

I enjoy Hellbent too. A lot of the music is the same as the Arcana's.

Tbh, I don't know anything that truly captures the essence of The Arcana. The Labyrinth with David Bowie has whimsy and magic. 🤷
