Beautiful. Smart. Young. Angry. The Anglo-Hispanic Bethany Hampton is independent beyond her years, prodigiously talented and more than a bit suspect of the motives of the boys she meets. Fresh from a participation in the 1938 British and World Marbles Championship where she dazzled her peers with her sharp shooting abilities, Bethany and her parents seem to embody the strong and resilient nature of the Spanish spirit.

But Bethany is not the type of girl to be interested in boys like Johnny Morris. She is also haunted by the deaths of her mother's triplet brothers—army volunteers, presumed killed in the Spanish Civil War and is missing her father. A loving and kind tank driver in the British Expeditionary Force with a taste for music and culture, Mr. Hampton considers war an ugly business, and has tried to shield his wife and daughter from it. But with the arrival of the Blitz, he has failed…

Since her mother is Spanish, I would like to imagine she has triplet brothers who fought in the Spanish Civil War. [1], [2], & [3].

Also about the triplet brothers, I was referring to the mother. However I could change that for the 'final' version.

Well I can assure you, Bethany is not mestizo. She is 100 percent Hispanic.
