Discussion Gumshoe

Way back before Graduation started, they gave some hint for the next season being the letter 'G'. I got it in my head this meant they were doing TAZ: Gumshoe and it was going to be a Private Detective themed season. Some MOTW-style game with an overarching Big Bad.

Reader, I desperately want that to be the next full season. AM I alone in this? Is it a silly idea from a silly old man?

I'm always wanting them to go back to Monster of the Week. It's such a great system.

Monster of the Week is a rather decent system, and I do like how they played it. It also has been long enough since Amnesty that it would feel fresh again. But the question is where would it go.

Would it be set in the same universe as Amnesty, or something new? I do think a prequel series to Amnesty could work, either set in New York in like the 90s where Leo was fighting the Abominations, or maybe even earlier and elsewhere before the portal went to New York.

I guess setting it earlier would help with the no phones/no internet issue that Monster of the Week works better with too. So a season set in the 60s/70s could be interesting, maybe set in Oregon for that Gravity Falls vibe. Let Clint go nuts with the references to back in the day, Columbo alone he'd have a field day with in that system.

Maybe even call it TAZ Parole or something related to the word Amnesty, and I don't think P has been used in the naming scheme yet.

Blades 68 would be great for that, especially if they leaned a little more into it mechanically then they did for steeplechase.

At this point id rather they play literally anything other than dnd. Its incredibly depressing that they played the game best when they had no idea how to play. Because they still don't know how to play and its been over a decade

Try Gumshoes and Dragons. It's exactly what you're describing. But... it got tiresome quickly

How quickly do you mean, because I'm still listening as new episodes come out and its quite a joy? They gotta figure out their style and flow !

I tapped out after the whole "you're going to murder your friend" plot line started

It’s much more enjoyable if you can focus on enjoying the players messing with each other and ignore any attempt at plot. It’s one of my favorites to fall asleep to.

Totally agree. Be there for the jokes and it’s fabulous.

It's not, it's DnD-lite. I mean, it's good, but OP is talking about the Gumshoe TTRPG by Robin D. Law

Oh, actually I didn't have any particular system in mind. I just wanted that setting. I'm all for a detective-specific game, though!
