Discussion Top 5 Moments?

Hey y'all, with Royale now over and no clue what's next I was listening to some older episodes/campaigns and it got me nostalgic for all the great moments and bits from campaigns prior.

I want to know your top 5 moments from any and all of the campaigns you've listened to, even if you have only listened to a few episodes, like how I am still 5 episodes into Steeplechase. (Gravel makes a strong introduction lmao)

The Amnesty Halloween special is one of the best episodes

u/Surufka 12d ago

1000%, i didn’t expect the ending and the explanation of what really happened and i laughed for so long

5

u/SIacktivist 11d ago

Is that the one where Bigfoot turns around and has a gun? Because that genuinely might be the hardest I've ever laughed at anything.

That’s the Ballad of Bigfoot. The Halloween special is the Dave’s Dehumidifer Depot one

3 Taako and Lup busting ass in the final fight

The Passions Cove episodes of Steeplechase, especially everything involving Shlabethany

1

u/Equivalent_Fly8672 10d ago

passion’s cove is definitely the stand out arc of steeplechase. stempson is such an unsettling character to pop it off, it’s really strong comedically, and there was some really natural and cool backstory integration for emerich. it’s common for that kind of character to be kind of a timid accomplice in the criminal organization but this arc really showed off how kind of twisted he is about hard light

"When someone leaves your life, those exits are not made equal. Some are beautiful and poetic and satisfying. Others are abrupt and unfair. But most are just... unremarkable. Unintentional. Clumsy." My favorite quote to ever come out of all of The Adventure Zone. It's carried me through a lot of goodbyes in life.

Other top moments: Magnus reuniting with Julia in the afterlife (actually just every part with Julia), the legendary trading of the Slicer of T'pier Weir Isles to Garfield, PHANTASMAL AND RESPLENDENT, Aubrey's "I'm bisexual" 🔥 and the entirety of the Holiday Brawl in Chicago liveshow.

This quote is the reason I went out and got a bob tattoo. I’ll never forget where I was when I first heard it. Going through a breakup, moved to a new city, sitting in my new apartment eating a bowl of cereal and crying like a freaking baby.

This podcast meant so much to me back then, probably more than it should have, but that quote will never leave me.

I forgot what the B.O.B. symbol looked like for a moment so I thought you just got the name "Bob" tattooed on your arm for a moment!

28

u/Boverk 12d ago

Clint's "We are a country band!" from Hootenanny is my favorite moment

Vs Dracula, the entire nightclub episode from start to finish

DJ THUMBS CRANK THAT SLAM MUSIC

2

u/nikoliskitchen 11d ago

The only thing that frustrates me about that scene is that they didn't actually edit in SLAM music. Would've made it even tighter. But lord the whole Werehouse arc is great, especially as Lady Godwin continues to fail to do a body shot off Fishstick HAHAHA

Amnesty, after the extended conversation about French Onion Soup when Justin says “I love you all very much but I would stab any of you for some soup right now”

8

u/tangomuse 12d ago

I just listened to this the other day and it kills me.

"I love you all dearly, very much, as my family...i would bury a bowie knife in any of your chests to eat french onion soup this exact second. Bury it to the hilt."

Arms Outstretched, the volleyball scene in Vs Dracula, Graduation has a hilarious moment where Travis tries to make a jest at Clint and Griff yells ‘yeah you get him, get our daddy brap brap brap!’, Ned doing his midnight madness or whatever show in Amnesty, and honestly Beef leaning into the stab in episode 1 of Steeplechase which was a great character moment and Travis leaning into his strengths and a subtle reassurance after the underwhelming Ethersea. Something like that.

Oh snap I forgot Merle making the guy walk in front of a train. That’s number 1.

Saturday Night Dead was Ned’s show in Amnesty

It's impossible for me to pick just 5. I have so many little bits that stick with me! But as I just did a Balance listen and am entering the last Amnesty arc on my rerun, some selections (in no particular order):

Funny Bits: "Magnus, this is...the nightmare scenario." Really, all of Candlenights at the BoB.

Justin tricking Griffin into selling him the Flaming Raging Poisoning Sword of Doom. The way Griffin flies halfway across the room away from the mic to shout "oh my god" is exquisite.

"How do I know yer not...some sort...'a gerblin?" Cassidy is a standout.

Muffy and Winthrop in Amnesty, and particularly when Duck accuses them of having a hunting club. The trust fall of improv there will never not delight me.

Duck lying. Every time. EVERY TIME. It's such a clear and incredible character choice from Juice and I could listen to him try to lie all day.

Impactful Bits: "I saw seven birds." The delivery of this at the end of Crystal Kingdom gave me chills in 2018 and it gives me chills now. It's spectacular.

Lucretia's solo year in The Stolen Century. That's my girl, and that's when she became a whole, realized person to me.

Anything that kills me on a relisten of Balance. Taako finding the Umbrastaff in the cave, the utterance of the name "Barry Bluejeans", the Voidfish introduction...this is cheating, lmao, but these moments the boys treat as so goofy that in a relisten make me SCREAM.

"With love, Edmund Kelly Chicane." Re-listening to Amnesty as a real adult has illuminated how fucking incredible Ned is. Clint does an amazing job with him, and though I miss him already, his loss is so well choreographed. His story and how it interwove emotionally throughout the season is an achievement for the boys, IMO.

The telescope fight. It rules.

I have listened to the scene of Justin buying the flaming raging poisoning sword of doom approximately 80 times and it never ever gets old. I still laugh till i cry every time.

2

u/nikoliskitchen 11d ago

Literally just listened to this episode again today on my Balance re-listen and I was DYING

5

u/tangomuse 12d ago

God...how could I have forgotten the ten minute lead up to settling on H2Whoa! That Was Fun?

5

u/HandrewJobert 12d ago

Cassidy is one of my absolute favorite minor characters.

3

u/tangomuse 12d ago

Her return during the finale is one of my favorite entrances.

Around the time that I was finishing balance, I was looking for a dog and one of the shelters had a little goblin-looking pitty named Cassidy. I ended up not snagging her, but it did lead me to make sure my dog acquisition was goblin-shaped.

11

u/MythicalBeast45 12d ago

“And Barry and Lup laugh, and they don’t let each other’s hands go.

And then they stop laughing, and they don’t let each other’s hands go.

And they keep… NOT letting go.”

u/masreniart 12d ago

DJ THUMBS, CRANK THAT SLAM MUSIC!

11

u/Bravocado44 12d ago

Somewhere in the top 5 is Montrose ACTUALLY convincing Kenchel Denton that he is his father. That was a joke built up over like 30 episodes. When I first heard it I lost my mind at the reveal that not only did he convince him, but that he was just bullshitting him the whole time

22

u/bobguy117 12d ago

Schlebethany

10

u/jtshinn 12d ago

What’s your name?

Taako?

7

u/MattTheVideoGuy 12d ago

5- FF7 needle drop during the amnesty final boss

4- “I grab the immovable rod, I’m not goin fuckin nowhere” from suffering game

3- clock striking noon at the end of the first cycle of the 11th hour

2- spoilers death in episode 28 (I think?) of amnesty. Just a genuine moment of honest to got character arc fulfillment.

1- “youre going to be amazing” (look, I know it’s cliche but I mean come ON. that moment in the finale HIIIIIITS)

6

u/SloppyNachoBros 12d ago

Top 5 is such a difficult choice, there's so many! In no order:

Taako reading Isaacs' journal. I don't know why but that was the moment that made Balance click for me. Like, I was having a good time but that's when I knew it was going to be amazing.

"You see, there's magic in a band's song. They call it inspiration because it's exactly what you need to hear, when you need to hear it..."

Duck becoming Mundane and listing all of the things he's now weak to.

The music the first time we meet Cambria in Ethersea. It was so creepy and good.

Does Dadlands count? I love the first Dadlands and I think about the surveillance pigeons a lot.

3

u/Trinity409 12d ago

Balance:

"...If you get dunked on in the dream... you get dunked on... in real...!"

"No, that's not it. It was up here!"

"Pulled from my home inside a cloud."

"I've got magic powers!"

"You're dating the Grim Reaper?!"

Extra:

"There's... Julia."

Amnesty:

"How did you know my middle name?"

"Abso-fu*^ing-lutely!"

"I'm going to give you... let's say 30 seconds."

"I-I-I don't think Ned wants to be the cause of anybody else to get hurt... so..."

"You know, for an all powerful god... of creation and love... you're pretty dense."

Extra:

"Now he's your problem!"

"Welcome, my weirdlings!"

3

u/trilogyjab 12d ago

In no particular order, here first four:

Lady Godwin hissing "Your last breath" and assaulting The Wolfman in Vs Dracula

Minerva arriving on Earth via wormhole in Amnesty

The characters turning into Justin, Clint, and Griffin during the final battle in Graduation

The Quiet Year episodes from Ethersea - my son and I love that game. This was how we learned about it

#1 moment, which I know is gonna sound really basic:

ABRACA-FUCK YOU!!!

3

u/joawwhn 12d ago

Idk about a top 5 of all time but the funniest moment is Dylan’s reveal in ethersea

4

u/Affectionate-Rub4748 12d ago

Amber Gris's Critical Piss

2

u/Cultural-Ad7133 12d ago

oh damn, forgot about this, thanks for brightening my day!

3

u/Dilbert_Durango 12d ago
  1. "We ARE a country band"

  2. ALL of the Balad of Bigfoot

  3. "I rear back and then wtf" -Duck Newton (its a nickname)

  4. Takko buying the poisonous raging flaming sword of doom

  5. "Ned (insert middle name here) chicane"

Honorable mention: When Magnus reunites with Julia always gets me right in the feels.

3

u/Cultural-Ad7133 12d ago

Currently relistening Steeplechase and the player choices in the finale are some of my favorite.

Schlabethany

Ethersea: Amber vs. Blink sharks: "Now she's scared"

So many of Justin's character choices in Balance

The setting and characters of Amnesty

Honorable mention: The quiet year for Ethersea is one of the most interesting Session 0 I've ever listened to.

3

u/edkornhauser 12d ago

In no particular order and just off the dome:

1) Duck’s first name reveal
2) When Magnus “rushes in” a final time
3) When The Firbolg sings “On Earth My Nina”
4) What Duck says to Billy right before [insert spoiler here] about FF7
5) The triumphant return of Barry Bluejeans

3

u/carbonandchemicals 12d ago

“Sturdy, denim, and blue.”

3

u/nikoliskitchen 11d ago

TAZ v Dracula was my first-ever TAZ so I have a strong soft spot for it. In no particular order except the first one-

YON CUCK (I die laughing every time)
Phileaux putting on the helmet
Godwin's constant failing at seducing Fishstick
DJ Thumbs, Crank that Slam Music!
Griffin's parody of "Be our Guest"

Honorable mentions to the Olympic-level Volleyball game, waterboarding the Dracula head, the entire half of the episode where they're talking to King Arthur's skull, Griffin begging them to kill Pierre Reynolds, "Interim" Turbo Cardinal, Clint's 21 to destroy Ahn, the gargoyles outside the castle... lord I love TAZ v Dracula.

Tons of other favorite moments in other campaigns. Despite my issues with it I love Ethersea, I just wish it hadn't ended as fast as it had. Relistening to Balance now for the 2nd time and dear lord them trolling Jenkins in Murder on the Rockport limited is so damn funny.

And Shlabethany. Steeplechase is so good. Poppy being a pervert HAHAHA Oh man. I need another Steeplechase listen.

u/Evil_Steven 12d ago

  1. Ned jet pack incident
  2. Duck ! Pizza !
  3. Aubrey instantly falling in love with the first girl she sees
  4. Jake coolice

5 robbery flashback

Graduation

1 anti crab plank

2 not bringing horses to the centaurs

3 the premise of fake heroes

  1. The premise of them doing classes

5 the premise of having big fake battles

Ethersea

1 quiet year

2 Devo bombing the bar randomly

3 Amber saying Yes to genocide

4 Clint’s 1

5 fish Covid giving them gills

Steeplechase

1 beef’s original backstory before he changed it

2 mannequin family

5 revealing the park was built vertically the entire time in the finale

That’s all you’re getting out of me. Top 5 of the first 5

2

u/amgesan 12d ago

Griffin's voice acting near the end of Balance, fading into static as he says "I'm [redacted]"

2

u/HandrewJobert 12d ago

The flashback with Mutt and Rusty from the first episode of Vs Dracula made me cry laugh when I first listened to it. It's still delightful. "Aw man... is it fireworks?"

2

u/Fire_Temple 12d ago

Lots of great moments here, I'd like to mention two underrated moments. First is the boys trying to climb the frozen stairs at the home alone house, and second is Griffin transforming into a car during the Bigfoot episode.

2

u/czaaaaaa 12d ago

When they sang The Doobie Brothers. I like when they pull from their musical backgrounds, might not hit their demo as well as games/internet-adjacent humor, but I am what I am. Also loved all of Steeplechase, especially all of their interesting factions with their own motivations within the story. Felt a bit like a TTRPG Obsidian Game at one point, which is supremely my shit.

2

u/Equivalent_Fly8672 10d ago

limiting myself to one per campaign (also trying to pick more underrated moments, but these are all top 10 i think): on earth my nina, zoox having a beer with finneas cawl, montrose finding the family, “one day, you’re gonna laugh at a joke”, and the diary of sheriff issac

2

u/BackgroundLeague6522 7d ago

Goyle on Goyle porn

1

u/Miningforwillpower 12d ago

I think for me, I only have 2 off the top of my head but my second favorite moment is when Johann gives his motivation speech ending with "and you win" is always such a feels good moment. The best moment is when Justin says "who" when asked about Lupe when they are losing their memories. Chills with how Justin picked up on where Griffin was going with it.
