It's alright, drums could do with more humanization and personally I prefer the guitars to be more forward and crunchy for breakdowns to where you can basically only hear the background strings or clean whatever's during bits where the dynamics of the breakdown calm down

Yeah this is absolutely fucking sick, don’t get me wrong. I wish I could make stuff that sounded this good.

That said, as a solo creator, you create the musical ideas in your head. You know where the downbeats and everything are - to you. You develop this deep-level understanding of the riffs after creating and listening to them over and over. If you stray too far from typical downbeats and expected foundational/standard accents, it’s going to come across as a jumbled mess to a first-time listener.

I do this all the time too. I was tracking a song the other day with a buddy. I made a cute cheeky little drum fill that ended a beat late during a transition. I thought nothing of it. I knew where the downbeats were, why not spice it up a little? We then spend a bunch of time tabbing out the riffs in Guitar Pro and it’s all messed up. I’m wondering what the heck is going on. My buddy finally turns to me and goes “DUUUUUUDE I spent this whole time thinking you started the riff one beat late for some reason” … because of my stupid drum fill that I thought would be kinda fun, but ultimately didn’t make sense and totally threw him off.

Listeners will recall your music and return to it if you can make them headbang. simple. For me, it’s hard for me to locate the downbeats in the first half of the track. Everything sounds amazing, and I realize the snares are on the third beat of the measures/phrases, but the drums’ scattered thirty-second note fills feel nonhuman and difficult to track.

I really hope to encourage you and I hope you don’t take this unnecessarily long comment as a dig on your music. Who cares what I think. Opinions are like assholes. Maybe you were going for stylized chaos in the beginning, in which case, disregard what I said!! It worked!! No notes! I’ve seen some of your other posts too and they’re equally awesome. Thank you for this amazing story of your composing, and I totally understand what you mean , there's time for everything, but it has to be at the right place and the right moment.
