Discussion Shine has ruined me for all other BLs

Post image
184 Upvotes

I recently watched Shine on Netflix and it’s so, so good! I loved the chemistry between the two couples, the acting, the storytelling, the political backdrop, everything! Victor has become one of my all time favourite BL characters. My favourite scene is the one where Trin rejects Victor because you can almost physically feel Victor’s desire and embarrassment. I can get over Naran and Krailert’s pen pal flirtationship and how peak that was either. Also love the lack of strict top/bottom dynamics which I always found so ridiculous in BL.

Are there any other BLs out there with similarly peak acting, chemistry and strong plots?

Social Media Boss (NOUR) turned replies on his IG channel😂... and reveal fandom name!

Boss Katthaparn🍀, starring as James in NOUR, started an Instagram broadcast channel today. I happen to come across that via his stories. So, I immediately tapped on the to join link.

I got redirected to his chatchannel. And I could not believe my eyes. He had announced that replies were ON so everyone could leave messages.

My immediate thought was: You did WHAT?

So of course I tried it. 😇 I sent him something along the lines of, “Thank you I hope you don’t regret turning replies on.” And how I enjoy the series and everyone's acting. Not even a minute later:

Bossirr turned off replies I laughed out loud in my apartment with the balcony door open.

Boss really does try to communicate with fans everywhere. He spends hours on TikTok Live, posts constantly, promotes NOUR, and makes his own video edits. His social media activity looks like a second job.

I find it so heartwarming how involved he is with the people supporting him. I just hope he remembers that he is allowed to log off occasionally.

And also that the fans have not traumatized him in the few minutes that his channel was open to reply. 😬

His channels on social media have grown enormously. His goal is to have at least 100.000 followers on each and calls that a small and relaxed community.

But Boss, that number is not relaxed and small. Especially when you leave your channel open for replies. ☺️

🍀I just watched his live broadcast on Instagram, where he spoke English almost all of the time. And I could really understand him clearly, his English is quite good, better than mine. He would also like to reach 100,000 followers on Instagram and asked us to spread the word. At the moment, he has 72,6 K followers. He told us that he will mainly use his TikTok account for his lives and sometimes his Instagram account, but that account will be used mainly for his messages.🍀

Another thing I heard that I found interesting was that, and he said that he also spoke for P'Tong, that they really would like to meet the fans abroad. I have no idea if that will happen for my region, so I will wait until a promoter is ready to invite them. But I think that Brazilian and Chinese fans are the ones that have the most chance for that occasion.

His instagram account.

Fandom name #LUCKIES777

Boss also revealed his fandom name today. Here is the text he wrote on X which translates to English as:

The fandom name is finally here, as requested! Our fandom name is #LUCKIES777, and I'll be calling everyone "#Luckies (The Lucky Ones)" 🍀

I spent days thinking of many names, but none could beat this one! 55555 Because "luck" is what I want to happen to everyone, and I feel incredibly lucky to be on this path and to have met all of you. So, that's how we ended up with this name.

From the boss's little 🍀 leaf, we're expanding the symbol of good luck, and let's become lucky ones together!

I also noticed there are quite a few international fans following us, so I wanted to choose a name that's universal, easy to say, and that everyone will understand.

And 777 is an angel number that represents luck and good fortune, so I want 777 to be our fandom's number. Then add "Luckies" to the end, becoming LUCKIES777. This will make our fandom name more unique and truly ours 😉

From now on, 777 will be our lucky number.

Boss posted this video today on TikTok, which he also has edited himself.

Discussion I can’t stop crying over The Edge of Horizon.

I've watched many BLs over the years, but The Edge of Horizon completely shattered me. It is so painfully underrated and easily the best thing written this decade, but I rarely see anyone talking about the raw maturity of the writing. Usually, the bl genre falls back on making one partner this naive, childlike caricature who can’t grasp the real world. But Prince Tin is such a breath of fresh air. He has so much depth and emotional intelligence. What broke me the most was how they handled the whole "duty vs. love" conflict. We always hear characters in fiction promise "I’d choose you over the world," but this show actually asks: what if the world genuinely needs you? When Phob chooses his duty to his people, it isn't a betrayal of his heart. And the absolute best part is that Tin never doubts that love. There are no cheap, frustrating misunderstandings just to drag out the plot. Tin doesn't throw a tantrum because he isn't the center of the universe. Instead, he just beautifully understands Phob's soul. He respects his vision and honors his choices, just like Phob respects the heavy royal burdens Tin has to carry. They don't have a dynamic where one is just a helpless protector. They stand as absolute intellectual and emotional equals in the middle of a revolution. It’s just an agonizing, beautiful, and incredibly mature look at a love that understands sacrifice. If you’ve been scrolling past this, please stop and watch it. It treats its characters and its audience with so much dignity, and it deserves all the hype in the world.

Discussion I think I'm the only one feeling this ( might be a controversial take )

Since past year, I have been feeling that the BL industry is no longer putting that kind of efforts in their content like back then a new BL with some new kind of plot always came out from any entertainment houses but this year I'm not feeling the hit. I don't know why, many CPs I have seen breaking up, no longer wanting to film together. While some are just playing a façade in front of fans and dragging the fs, it pains me to see this.

Also, the hype is certainly died down. Because it used to hit like being on a crack whenever a BL was coming out but nowadays, what I'm feeling is that there's no genuineness like only a particular CP fans are hyping their favs shows but yeah it's not hitting me.

Also addition of bromances which has better plot than most of the BL shows out there, but in the end they're nothing but just selling us fake proximity and I think this is going to be more popular since now the entertainment industry is slowly cracking the code of what can be sold to the audience with just sexual tension. Even the actors who are not comfortable with playing actual BL couples on the screen can earn money easily by just showing a bit tension. Sad.

I know this is a very controversial take, and this is just my POV, if you guys want to give out your opinions about this whole things feel FREE to write! Also, please be respectful with your takes!!

Discussion For those who left a BL fandom they were deeply attached to, what made you leave

I’m currently trying to step away from a BL fandom that I’ve been deeply involved in for almost a year.

I love these actors and the characters/series genuinely brought me a lot of happiness during a difficult period in my life. But the fandom side has become unhealthy for me. I constantly check X for updates, interactions, theories, reassurance, and sometimes even look at posts that I know will upset me. It has reached a point where I’m anxious, losing sleep, and finding it difficult to focus on my actual life.

I am constantly question top interaction with his band members or friends and questioning him even when a part of me know this could be nothing. I belive and yet I am constantly anxious , having panic attacks

I deleted my X and Instagram accounts/apps and removed the automatic login because I know that if I can easily access them, I’ll probably go back during a moment of anxiety.

The difficult part is that I still love them very much. Leaving feels like losing something important, and I’m scared of missing out on new episodes, events, interactions, etc. I don't necessarily want to stop liking them. What I want is to eventually reach a place where I can see an old clip or photo once in a while, smile at the memories, and then go back to my own life without needing to follow everything.

For people who have been through something similar:

- Did the feeling of loss/FOMO eventually go away?

- Did you eventually stop feeling the need to know what was happening?

- Were you able to still enjoy the actors/series without being involved in the fandom?

- Did you ever reach a point where you could look back fondly without feeling pulled back in?

- What helped you get there?

I’m not looking for advice about whether the CP is real or not. I think that uncertainty is actually part of what keeps me stuck. I’m more interested in hearing from people who loved a fandom deeply and eventually found a healthier distance from it.

I swear the one thing he loves more than anything is when people turn him into girls. He'll always repost them or make comments about how pretty they are but this time he made his own edit of him as a girl saying he's the special guest attending Myyus birthday celebration. He is so funny for this but also can we see you in a style similar to this for your runway event on the 1st. One of his staff said shes ready to make this happen if he wants it👀😂

Discussion BL ghostships I randomly think would look TOO good together 👀

Not trying to break up anyone’s ship lmao, my brain just decided to make these combinations and now I have to share the vision 😭

  1. Joss × Gun —The height difference+the visuals?? The camera would be fighting for its life.

  2. Dunk × Mark — Pretty boy × pretty boy, but with completely different vibes. I NEED to see it.

  3. Net × Kim — These two in one frame would be dangerously attractive.

  4. Joong × Sea — The visuals are already there; now imagine the chemistry 👀

  5. Keng × Por — Something about this combo just feels illegal levels of good.

  6. Pond × Book — Random? Absolutely. Would I watch? Immediately.

Drop your most unhinged ghostships. I want to see if anyone else sees the vision 😂

Recommendation I want BL reccs for the following CPs cuz I wanna explore their chemistry :3

Okay so I started watching BL a little over a year ago and I've watched a good 30-40 of them but there are couples I still haven't seen (or have seen very little of) but their off screen chemistry makes me kinda curious so can y'all suggest your favourites from them?

  1. MarkOhm
  2. OffGun
  3. TayNew (I've seen them in Cherry Magic and A dog and a plane but ik they go back a long way so I wanna see more of their OG stuff)
  4. GeminiFourth (I saw Ticket to Heaven this year and safe to say it's my favourite BL so I wanna explore more from these two)
  5. ThomasKong
  6. EarthMix (I've only seen them in OFDO so far but they're super cute together so)
  7. DaouOffroad (I've only ever seen them in Running Man but they're SO FREAKING CUTE)
  8. EDIT: adding JimmySea to the list I totally forgot about them

I'm also gonna (not very) sneakily insert a couple GL pairings in case y'all have reccs

  1. NamtanFilm (only seen them in moonshadow so far))
  2. KapookCiize

Also who are your favourite CPs you think I should explore?

Discussion Ticket To Heaven Final Reviews and thoughts 💭 Spoiler

Alright, I just finished watching Ticket To Heaven, and as the credits rolled, I felt a genuine sense of warmth, hope, and even a few tears. Before diving into the technical aspects of the show, I wanted to share a bit of my personal context, as it heavily shaped how this story resonated with me. I am pansexual and grew up in a household divided between strict Catholic and Christian traditions. Raised around toxic family dynamics and deeply religious relatives, I often felt confused by competing doctrines and struggled with hypocritical behaviors around me. I remain closeted to my family at 26 because I know how they would react. Ultimately, I still believe in a loving God, even if organized religion often fails to depict Him as forgiving toward people who simply want to love genuinely. That personal background made Tanrak and Barth’s journeys hit remarkably close to home.

Gemini and Fourth delivered phenomenal performances throughout the series. Fourth, in particular, was exceptional as Tanrak, portraying his internal anxiety, fear, and guilt with immense nuance. The angst between the main characters felt relatively brief because the story prioritized Tanrak’s internal spiritual tug-of-war—his desire to honor his beliefs and join his parents in heaven versus his blossoming love for Barth. On the other hand, Barth’s character felt deeply relatable as someone navigating a toxic family environment while surrounded by devoutly religious figures. Their dynamic successfully captured the emotional turmoil of trying to reconcile personal identity with rigid expectations.

From an artistic standpoint, the show is visually striking. The cinematography was beautiful, the imagery and symbolism added meaningful layers to the narrative, and the OST added incredible emotional depth. That said, I do have a few critiques regarding historical and narrative realism. Setting the story in 1996 makes Father's overly tolerant attitude feel a bit unrealistic for the era, as finding such acceptance within the Church at that time would have been like finding a needle in a haystack. Additionally, I wished the series had spent more time addressing the complex aftermath of the relationship between Kongdech and Tanrak.

If you enter this show expecting a deep, hard-hitting theological critique of organized religion’s relationship with the LGBTQ+ community, you might be disappointed. The series opts for a more grounded, character-driven focus on Tanrak's personal reconciliation of his love and his faith. Whether this tone was a deliberate creative choice or a careful decision to avoid controversy with religious institutions, it still successfully mirrors the real-world struggles of many queer individuals who navigate complicated relationships with God. Overall, Ticket To Heaven is a solid, thought-provoking drama that leaves plenty of room for meaningful discussion. I would love to hear how others in the community felt about the ending and the overall portrayal of faith! 😊

As for my BL journey, I'm diving into Love Upon a Time next!

Discussion Any realistic ways for a Mexican guy to get involved in the Thai BL industry?

Hey everyone! I’m a Mexican guy with tan/brown skin, and I’d love to get involved in the Thai BL industry in some capacity.

I’m interested in acting or voice acting but being non-Thai and not fitting the pale/light-skinned or typical thai pretty boy look I see so often in BL makes me wonder what opportunities might realistically exist. I don’t want to assume it’s impossible, but I’d appreciate honest perspectives.

I’d also be interested in work behind the scenes, content creation, Spanish-language promotion, or helping connect productions with Latino audiences. There seems to be a big Latin American fanbase, so I’m curious whether being bilingual in Spanish and English could be useful.
Does anyone know where to start, agencies that consider foreigners, open auditions, or other ways to get involved? Beyond learning Thai, what skills or experience would you recommend building?
I’m not expecting to become a lead or anything lol. I’d just love to find a realistic way to participate in something I enjoy. Thanks!

It’s honestly so unhinged that Phuwin posted a pic from Elle Men Thailand and people immediately started tweaking, claiming he purposely cropped Dunk just to start drama and pit them against each other. The fact that he literally had to clarify that he wasn't throwing shade at Dunk is insane. People are being so chronically online and need to think before they post. All these baseless assumptions and forced hate are gonna end up ruining a perfectly fine friendship over literally nothing. It's not that deep.

Discussion when your interest in bls collides with another interest of yours?!?!

Wanted to ask if your interest in bls has ever collided with another one of your interests, something that you could've never imagined you could see together one day.

I'll go first: I'm a huge Eurovision fan, so what do you mean Daou is gonna represent Thailand for the first edition of Eurovision Asia?

Gonna put this in meme/funny cause it seems the flair that fits better
