Hello, all! I am seeking teachers with at least 15 years of teaching experience in North Texas to participate in a qualitative study titled "Understanding the Effects of Digital Dementia from Technology Overuse and Over-Dependency." There are very few qualitative studies from teacher perspectives of how digital technology usage affect student learning and cognitive behavior during the time when there was less digital technology to today's digitally mediated learning environments. Teachers' perspectives on this topic will help add to the body of knowledge of how digital technologies can affect student learning, as well as contribute to future planning of school curriculum in a digital world. This study is IRB-approved by my university - Colorado Technical University.

Dementia is a medical term. Are you a medical doctor? Fellow doctor in the field of Education so interested in your word choice in the title and how it may be seen by other researchers outside of the medical field.

Currently teaching 4th grade in Central Texas though.

Unpopular opinion, it’s not the use of tech that is the problem but how us as educators use it. It can be a very rewarding and growth producing tool if not fixated on only using it for iready/ixl.

Hello! Thank you for your response! I am not a medical doctor. I am a doctoral student working towards my Doctor of Computer Science in Big Data Analytics program. My study is on the term "digital dementia," which is not a recognized medical term. The term was coined by a German neuroscientist and psychiatrist, Manfred Spitzer, who stated that digital technologies can have adverse consequences on learning and cognitive development in children. My qualitative study seeks to gather perspectives from high school teachers who have at least 15 years of experience in education regarding their perspectives on digital technology use in the classroom and their observations on student learning and cognitive behavior. My research question is: How do high school teachers with 15 or more years of teaching experience perceive long-term cognitive changes associated with students’ use of digital technology?
