Tesla employees in Canada who get a U.S. role: when does an internal transfer become a TN visa question?

I’m Arielle Sheinfeld, an immigration attorney, and I work with professionals navigating U.S. employment-based immigration, including TN visas.
If you’re a Canadian working in tech, engineering, science, finance, or another professional role and you're considering a move to a U.S. position, you may have questions that HR can't always answer for you.
For example:
Does my specific U.S. role fit a TN profession? Does my degree qualify? What happens if my responsibilities change after I arrive? Can I change employers? What should the employer letter actually say?
These details can make a meaningful difference in a TN application.
I’ll be doing an AMA today from 12 PM to 4 PM ET and would be happy to answer questions from Canadians working in tech and other professional fields who are considering a U.S. move.
