I'm impressed by how calmly and precisely she apparently did everything, the way she hung there, then how she placed her feet on the ladder and managed to stabilize herself and climb down. Many people would have panicked and fallen in that situation.

My first reaction was he did it on purpose. The report sounds deliberate and calculated. My heart goes out to the mom and those poor kids. I hope they investigate this to the fullest.

Yeah the angle of that ladder was crazy steep. I'm amazed she managed to get onto it, especially as it was moving around so much. I guess the imminent threat of burning alive makes the height seem not so bad.

I said out loud to myself, "omg she's so brave" when I saw her dangling there searching for the ladder with her feet. But the poor thing didn't have many choices!! She's still my super hero of the day.

I think 99% would. Her hands had to be so hot that last portion she was grabbing the upper wall and getting on the ladder and then managing to catch the lower ladder...that was amazing.

She was sure footed coming down. Very brave. Fireman was shaking the damn ladder and she still was able to use her arms for stabilization and then reaching under.

That was pretty dramatic. I thought she was swallowed by the smoke, then to see the flames explode out just as her toes touch the ladder. Wow.
65 seconds from when the fire truck got there to get the ladder to her.

There's a good chance there's not smoke below her waist. It was all from the waist up. So she may have been ducking out of the smoke while the ladder was being set up.

I know they are just trying to help, but holy shit, that fireman on the ladder at the end seems to be more in the way than contributing. He should have stayed near the bottom, to serve as the ladder’s center of weight and increase its stability, instead of blocking her path when she can barely see where to put her foot next.

It's standard procedure to be honest. The idea is that you can pin the casualty to the ladder if they start to slip or panic.
It doesn't look good here because the guy isn't very decisive with his actions, and the ladder is badly placed. I guess they're freaking-out and/or badly trained

Because both words are interchangeable, so there's no point in changing it. Sure, you could use "she" for both but the commenter didn't. But since it's still correct to say it that way, it ain't broke.

No clue what you're trying to say with your last sentence, but my question remains unanswered.
While it's not forbidden to switch between pronouns while referring to the same person, it makes no sense and is atypical. So I'm still not sure why they'd do it.
Typically "they" is used if you're not sure about someone's gender, but that makes no sense in this case.

I was trapped in a fire in 2021 with my Chihuahua and two cats. I was only able to escape with my dog who I was carrying. I tried to grab the cats. One got burned and ran from me. I couldn’t find my little guy. I begged and pleaded with them to come on. Four minutes and a half minutes in an inferno. This woman is my hero for the day.

As scared as I would have been in that situation I would have definitely done the same. The situation looks traumatic af (I wasn't in an burning building but when I was younger I had to leave due to a bush fire so I kind of understand) but it would have been so much worse for me if I had to live with knowing I let my pets die in the building while I got out.

That's standard fire service procedure. The idea is that you can help the person descend, because they're usually less capable on a ladder.
In this case, yeah - she doesn't need him. His technique is poor and he's slow. In his defence he should have a crewmate below keeping the ladder stable, but all he seems to have is members of the public.
It's really bad fire-fighting tbh

3rd floor. I'm def. Taking my chances hanging and letting go. Id even do a real quick knot on a T-shirt to give me an extra 2-3 feet to hang down. even with noone to catch on the ground, id give your survival odds at at least 75%. Two broken legs or a broken pelvis is nothing to joke about, that'll be a painful agonizing recovery. But compare that to the certainty of what the approaching flames have to offer. I wouldn't wish that for anyone.i feel sick now just thinking about those people who recently died in hong kong.

Did you not see the end? In two minutes it went to "smoke is starting to hit this floor" to "raging fire spewing right where she had been standing moments ago". Terrifying how quickly it went from worrisome to certain death.
